A lot of 80's musical icons are starting to fade away, she made her mark with Fame, a movie, then a series, and the theme song remained consistent between both, though I think only 1 or 2 cast members from the movie carried over to the series (a common theme when movies gets made into TV series).

I don't plan on updating this thread anymore so I wanted to remove the year from the title so that the mods didn't have to update it. Also, the point of having the year in the first place was so people could post their lists of expected celebrity deaths for the coming year in the gallows humor tradition of a Dead Pool, but no one ever did and it's just been a thread for news posts, so I didn't think it necessary.

Also, regarding Shmups.com being in the title, it's been like that from when I first posted the thread almost ten years ago, but I'll change it to Shmups Forum.

I'm doing pretty well. Have you made it out here recently? Things are pretty grim as far as the nerd realm is concerned, with insane used game prices and all these arcades dying. I haven't been to Akihabara in ages, but the thought of seeing GiGO signs everywhere where Sega used to be doesn't sound real enticing. But at least the exchange rate is nice!

Going for Xmas... but as the government opened the flood gates and all the influencers make their way, my free tickets are semi-useless as it's a standby. As such, I'm going next week. I'll have to work fucked up hours the whole time. Egads. :-/ I usually just hang out with my son when I'm there. Last time was the spring and the ex-waifu is very Japaense when it comes to Covid so that meant I didn't see any of my friends until I was leaving (and stayed in my own airbnb). Not sure but it's likely to be similar this time.

This was a lot of my reasoning for leaving when I did, which is now a whopping 8 fucking years ago. Sheesh. I think even then Akihabara was more focused on pedophelia than games... definitely than retro games. There were a few niche corners but, just like when Super Hans smashed his car and decided to quit smoking crack, a little voice went off in my head and said "pack it in son, that's game".
