Walter Mondale.
Two working class dudes, one black one white, just baked a tray of ten cookies together.

An oligarch walks in and grabs nine cookies for himself.

Then he says to the white dude "Watch out for that black dude, he wants a piece of your cookie!"

Yup. Digital Underground was a personal favorite for me back then. I used to memorize all their raps with my buddies. Probably sounds silly now, but whatever.

My favorite 2Pac thing was always this.

Sorry to hear Joseph Siravo died last month, 66. Had a small but seismic role on The Sopranos as Tony's father. Not surprised to learn he was a respected stage actor, just going on his relatively few scenes.

Sucks that every time they mention her film career they only talk about Bachelor Party. She's in my absolute favorite movie as the titular character, Gwendoline (Aka The Perils of Gwendoline in the Land of Yik-Yak) and also the main in the fun horror film Witchboard.

Totally unsurprising, even by pro wrestler standards, but yeah. Later you absolute fucking lunatic. Even as a teenage mark, I never got the appeal of the whole deathmatch thing. I'm gonna put a cinderblock on your nuts! And then, I'm gonna hit the cinderblock with a steel chair! I sure thought they were cool though. >_> Nice story about him from a while back.

Franco Battiato

Experimental filmmaker, musician, painter, all-around amazingly creative and artistic human being.

He released a couple dozen ahead-of-their-time, tangerinesque recordings in the 1970s and onward. On of the best is Clic:

In the 80's, he embraced new wave, which turned out to be a good fit:

Fuck. I remember thinking like 15+ years ago, how horrible it would be if he died before he wrote an ending to Berserk. And he was basically still a kid at that point.

So sad to see him go. Berserk really is the best manga I‘ve read.

I would assume it won't. I mean, you want a completely different artist/author working on something like that?

Curious how much he even wanted to continue on with it, especially with the few other series he started, which appear much more light-hearted. And hell, Berserk definitely got that way as well, which is why I gave up on it years ago.

Still, obviously sad to see him go. Hell of an artist. Remember reading that he got pretty sick years ago, so not a huge surprise. I think most people were kinda resigned to the fact that Berserk wasn't going to be finished at that point.

Well, the Battiato/Miura one-two punch was not that easy to digest.
Time for a retrospective on both artists, I guess.

EDIT: I would say that both authors were at their prime in their early works. About Battiato, I should probably post some comments where they properly belong.
I found a nice article in English about the man here that is worth double-posting, though.
Chomsky, Buckminster Fuller, Yunus and Glass would have played Battle Garegga, for sure.

For better or (probably worse), I wouldn't be surprised to see a Wheel of Time scenario popping up with some other writer/artist finishing the series off his notes for the ending (which he most assuredly had). I've heard some talk that he (apparently) had some proteges he was training for such a contingency.

From interviews and quotes, he really, really wanted to finish it and was aware his health might be an issue in doing so.

This sadly reminds me of Komatsu Sakyo, one of Japan's most prolific science fiction authors, of which a whopping two of his works have been translated into English: Japan Sinks and Virus.

After starting Kyomu Kairo as a serial publication in SF Adventure magazine in 1985, stopped temporarily in 1987 as he had become busy as the new general producer of an exposition. This amounted to 2 tankobon books, and eventually a 3rd in 2000. He said he wanted badly to finish the story, but died in 2011 at the age of 80. The AI group of a university wants to train an AI to read all of his novels and finish the story. Not sure how I feel about that. The book was a spiritual successor to his magnum opus written many decades earlier, Hateshinaki Nagare no Hate Ni which was the bomb.
