Apart from the mentioned. I have watched 3 or 4 eps of Continuum. Its about a futuristic lady cop fighting futuristic bad guys in 2012. First episode looked very expensive and swish, followed by quite a few episodes of cheapness. I think if you watch most opening episodes it kind of goes like that hehe.

Game of thrones is where its at though. Nothing beats that shit. Shame its only 10 eps per season. Its almost over before it starts.

True blood is alright. Although 10 mins after it finished I can't remember anything in it. There must be a scientific word to explain that.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

CMoon wrote:Modern TV (I stopped watching in the early 90's) is a new thing to me. Guess it started with Firefly and new Doctor Who, but those are sort of sci fi exceptions. Started watching Breaking Bad (just the pilot) and am really impressed. Takes the idea of a full length movie (that I often have too short an attention span for these days) and instead serves up a small entertaining bite. Clever but not blowing its whole load. It seems something happened in the early 00's (starting with The Wire?) and TV started becoming a much higher production with all the talent going there instead of hollywood? Hmmm...

Anyway, I know I should see The Wire and I've head Mad Men is good. What TV is really outstanding?--not episodic sitcom bullshit like what I saw back in the 70's-90's. A friend loaned my the first copy of Falling Skies, which is back to sci fi and may not be great, but I'm sort of obligated to watch it and I can always get drunk while doing so.

Oh and as said in the movie thread (but should have gone here): Legend of Korra is fucking great. Can't wait for season 2.

Semi-OT, any FOPs on the board need to hear the audiobook of Alan's recent autobiography, "I, Partridge: We Need To Talk About Alan." Witness Alan's journey from his triumphant birth, to a Dickensian urchin who could only eat cakes on special occasions, to the strapping Norfolk man we all saw beat up Jed Maxwell in IAP s1e5. You won't scoff about Toblerone addiction any more after chapter 26 - "My Drink And Drugs Heck," you rotten shits!

Spent the better half of the last two weeks watching Breaking Bad from 101 to 502. This show is amazing and I can't believe that I wasn't even aware of it's existence until earlier this year. The writing is solid, the editing is great, but mostly I was just blown away by the performances of Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul. Some surprisingly top level acting going on here.

Rewatched all 3 seasons of Avatar: The Last Airbender.
I forgot how crappy the pacing was in the first season. Other than that, was extremely enjoyable from start to finish.

Eh, it's still got funny moments in each episode. Last I checked, anyway. Good enough.

Anywho, as for good television, started watching The Twilight Zone on netflix. Pure magic. Also The Newsroom. Haven't made up my mind on that one yet.

Took a while to grow on me, and although I've only seen the first 4 seasons, US Office is almost as good as Arrested Development. AD has the edge overall though. Weirdly, I couldn't get into UK Office.

Yeah, The Office (US) was really great when Carell was boss, and it's actually started to be funny again at the end of this last season.

Someone saying they like the US version of something more than the original version? From the UK, even? Amazing! ;)

Based on hype, I watched one episode of The Office (US version) during season 1, but didn't like it. Then I happened to watch an episode from season 3 and really liked it. I went back and watched season 1... I think I just didn't like that season. Parks and Recreation is kind of the same way. Season 1 was just okay, but the seasons after that were pretty good.

I haven't watched The Office this season, but the past few seasons were just okay. Still funny, but getting stale and repetitive. I think it's better when shows intentionally end before they run out of steam.

As for the UK version, it's on my list of things to watch, but Ricky Gervais just rubs me the wrong way for some reason. I did like Extras to a certain extent, though.

Three's Company and All In The Family seemed like better sitcom translations of their British counterparts, but The Office (US) is unwatchable - this is just like that godawful show that preceeded it, Friends

The office is one of those weird ones where it's more of a re-imagining, and actually works. The humor is not as dry, and Michael Scott, while annoying and just all around in the clouds, is not the same as that chilled out entertainer David Brent. Brent is far more of a cunt, and even more annoying.

Michael Scott is lovable. Brent, not so much.

I always chuckle at Ricky Gervais's comment that Neil Godwin is an unlikeable character and spineless, disloyal, greedy, incompetent boor Brent isn't. Because "the job doesn't mean as much to him." I guess Gervais really was just playing himself? Brilliant performance nonetheless.

Yeah, I don't care for "likeable" characters as much as the ascerbic digs - there was something honest and true in their performance that the American version never had. Hell, I much prefer Workaholics over trash such as The Office (US) 8)

I kind of like Workaholics, but for some reason it just strikes me as a poor man's It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

Yeah, and both shows are uneven when it comes to comedy: sometimes they're a riot and sometimes they're a total miss. I think the difference between both is that Workaholics doesn't have any continuity, so you can start watching anywhere during any season. It's Always Sunny isn't solidly continuous, but I noticed that when people start watching from any point, they don't find it funny - but, those who watched from the start find it hilarious (like me) 8)

Friends had it's moments (almost all of them made by Joey & Chandler) but it seemed to fade about halfway through. It was always pretty cheesy, but good for decompression.

I just finished catching up on Dexter and have been watching Grimm with the wife. Before that was Hell on Wheels, which was awesome.

I think I'm going to blow thru Falling Skies next.

I liked Hell On Wheels. Someone wrote it was like a "poor man's Deadwood," but since I don't have Showtime premium channels I have no way to tell. Hell On Wheels was damn good 8)

Get ready to wait. I've been waiting for ages for that one too. Cool that Netflix finally got it. I laugh my balls off at that show all the time.

I always thought that Ross Geller was the funniest character on Friends. The physical humor stylings of David Schwimmer.
