I'm actually picking up TotFL again, a store I have a lot of credit got in a reasonably priced minty copy. Looking forward to clearing it again but I have to knock out my current RE2 run and Octopath before I start. Good times.

The music is mostly very good, but the battle theme is just a budget ffvii battle theme, which is a bit disappointing considering how much you hear it.

I haven't gone back to ToFL since those few frustrating days, maybe I'll get on with it tomorrow.

Yeah, it's more about the atmosphere. Really pulls you in, especially with the NPC/town events.

it's not really something you could call a series unfortunately, just this game and a jp only sequel. all of the many japanese wizardry side games are made by a bunch of disparate developers and aren't really related in any way. from what i understand they all stick pretty close to the formula of the first 3 wizardry mainline games, which were hugely popular in japan.

Pretty much. Elminage came about because Starfish wanted to make Wizardry games and they didn't have the name.

Incidentally, I think their games are way more fun than the 'real' Wizardrys.
