Most are actually good. I've owned several DC's all used and they all were fully functional. Never had a DC pad break on me once.
Ahh thx for letting me know, still I would of thought there would be a number of DCs in circlation that had knacked CD drives due to ppl doing the disk swop trick

Disk swapping was mostly only used very early on (prior to the bootdiscs) as a method of playing imports, and there were a couple ways to do the swap while the disc was not spinning.

I think my Dreamcast still has the internal battery disconnected, way back from they days of "safe" disc swapping.

The game Seaman is particularly humorous when system time gets mucked up between plays.

Message to the devs. Please tone down on the green on main character and enemies. Other than that, looks great. Keep up the good work and very noble to keep the dc and neo alive

This does look indeed awesome - I also get a strong Amiga 500 vibe from it. Those guys have been getting really good at pixel graphics.

Can I beg for a 16:9 mode of some sort? If the game scrolls just show more width. I'd be much happier seeing the whole (or at least 80%) of a 16:9 screen visibly utilized. I think thats one of the biggest turn offs of using retro equipment with 16:9 HDTV's.

For me this is a deciding factor on if I buy the game or not.

I was hoping we'd get more screenshots and videos long before the pre-orders start, but ah well. Looking forward to seeing what the game will be like.

Knowing them, they will tell you to get a 4:3 CRT since they basically make Neo-Geo games. Hence the name, NG:Dev.Team.

I have a 4:3 TV, but I ain't playing no long winded game on a setup that is temporary. Considering its a simple coding parameter to show more width I don't see a problem. I'd rather just plug the DC into my TV and start playing anytime I want.

Does the DC output any widescreen modes? If not, you want them to code an anamorphic option into the game? (I've seen the latter done in some 3D titles but I dread to think what the picture would look like on a 2D game)

From what I know, SD consoles don't output any specific widescreen picture as such. 16:9 is usually just anamorphic picture rendered at the exact same resolution as 4:3 and displaying it at correct aspect ratio is up to the TV (hence the stretched pixels). Even Jet Force Gemini for the N64 supports widescreen.
That said, I'm not sure if one of Burnouts for the first Xbox doesn't run in "true" widescreen mode. Also, modded consoles just might output some unusual resolutions.

That Sega Ferrari F360 game has a 16:9 mode on the Dreamcast (polygons though).

So a DC cannot do 16:9 in hardware? There are about 12 games that support 16:9 on the system.

I'm no specialist, but I don't think those games produce an actual widescreen resolution. Instead, they cram more of the image horizontally into the regular 640x480, so that a TV set to wide will stretch things back to the normal proportions.

Thats a shame.

I will opt out then. Unless I can find a really small 4:3 TV with RGB.

Why not a decent-sized 4:3 CRT with S-Video? That's how I roll. :P

For a 2D game to do anamorphic widescreen, they'd have to redraw every sprite for the different ratio. Get real.

If it's a sidescroller, it can just show more stuff on screen at once without redrawing anything. Konami's Gradius Deluxe Pack and Sexy Parodius sort of did that, to a lesser extent.

Only very old PAL TVs (over a decade old) are without any SCART socket and 60 Hz support.

A bigger version of the cover was posted on neo-geo today. It's just big enough to make out the new screenshots on the back cover (just noticed one on the spine as well!).

Have to say, the front cover illustration is boss. Would love to see it poster size.

Wouldn't be anamorphic then. Anamorphic means you're using the same resolution as 4:3 mode, but displaying it in 16:9, meaning the pixels won't be shown in a 1:1 ratio. (or whatever ratio the game is made to work with)
