Oh, totally forgot about this thread.

Well, after my late 2013 EP which was actually made specifically for live perfomance, which was first and currently still last for me, i went away from all that stuff.

Though recently i've recorded a new tune during contest on some site i visit.

SAME NO NAZO ~ ENIGMA OF THE SHARK

First track of the new year myself. Inspired by a love of shark movies, Italian movie soundtracks, and wistful Japanese videogame OSTs, all combined into a weeb monstrosity that tells (or will tell in subsequent tracks) the story of a mysterious shark who may be the doom of mankind. Thus the shark theme is not threatening or menacing, but tragic.

Isn't it great when you finally finish that track? Or maybe it isn't. I have dozens of unfinished WIPs sitting in my projects folder.

I can feel myself getting pumped up listening to the track. You nail a nice driving pulse in this track. The woodblock PLOK noise has just the right amount of reverb to give it that melancholic vibe :P

I composed another piece in my "shark" series:

SAME NO NAZO ~ Ambassador's Boat Party

This time it has parts that sounds like "shark" music, along with pumpin' techno and sad piano love song. :P

One more! On a roll with three pieces of music in nearly a week's time!

SAME NO NAZO ~ A Glass Before We Go (INTERMISSION)

This time in 5/4 time. Listening to this track on my headphones and speaker system sounds fine; when I play it on my amazon echo, it sounds muffled and the effects seem way too thick  If you listen to it please let me know how it sounds, production-wise. I put the master audio through a simple multi-purpose compressor to boost the volume values for everything across the board, and since it didn't sound bad I went with it.

As a topic of discussion: I almost never write music quickly - it's usually a more tortuous process of tweaking endless knobs until something sounds kinda not like shit.

I don't have a midi controller as well, so every note is clicked (or copy-pasted) in with a mouse, which takes... a while. When I am just free-wheeling it, it can take a long time as songs/music naturally evolve into new things (or I just noodle new parts into it). My fastest pieces always come from having a piano sketch beforehand that I record from my phone because I can't remember my improv worth shit.

Great stuff! The flute and [electric] piano were instruments that just seem to be made for one another. The held piano notes give a nice rich timbre to the track.

Came across this link on Facebook: https://pae.izotope.com/

Basically, it's like a school for your ears on how to use compression, EQ etc. Thought it might be useful for others here as well as for me.

Nice! Production and mastering is where I struggle the most when it comes to making music. Well that and a still looming ignorance about the finer tweaks, adjustments and tricks to use with my software (FL Studio)... which is embarrassing because I've been using it now for close to 9 years! I've gotten better since my early days though. :P

===

Another Toaplan-style track, also bearing a strong Tatsujin influence. I've had this one down as a piano sketch for quite a while, so I felt it opportune to make it while I drag my feet on more SAME NO NAZO tracks (still noodling and sketching for that).

Well, I had already chosen all the drum sounds when I came up with the bassline. Then I put shuffle on all of the drums and voilá, it sounded Hardfloor-ish. After that, I heard the melody inside my head and managed to program it in 100%. A good exercise for my production chops.

Anyhow, thanks a lot for the feedback!

Yeah, "The Art Of Acid" is a masterpiece. Seen this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xM6K5djeRMY ? My personal favourite album of theirs is "Respect" though, as I bought it in 1995 in Berlin, I always come back to it.

Loads of stuff to listen to since I last checked. While I do that, a friend put out a little remix release for a track of mine called High Point. I made the track for the 2015 edition of Futur[e]cho on my label and felt like the track could do well with some remixes. A minimal atmospheric Dub Techno track with a few remixes and a version of it I made. https://runonrecordings.bandcamp.com/album/high-point

After sitting on completed music files for upwards of 3 years (!!!), I finally uploaded my first ever album, a ten-track concept album with a Science-Fiction/synth flavor:
Spoiler
Image
Excuse the amateurish art; I was impatient!

Sea Zone: A Science Fiction Album

Four-Minute Preview Sampler of Album

Moody synthesizers, swirling phaser effects, electronic drums, and unintentionally heavy on the piano. At the time I wrote this I was watching a lot of anime OVAs with dark futuristic settings, so somehow I channeled that inspiration into over a half-hour of original music!

I'm happy that you're enjoying it. Makse me wonder why I didn't release the music ages ago when I actually finished it!

EDIT: If anyone else listens to it, please let me know if the bandcamp music plays too softly - I've had a tough time judging the volume of the tracks, between my personal headphones, speakers, and speakers on other computers (they all seem different).
