You played a very different Persona 3 FES than I did. Marin Karin was cast at least a 50 times (even when healing was needed) and it didn't work any of those times.

Possibly. I did use the "pliz attack" and "pliz heal" AI commands.

Dragon Warrior 4 was so much worse. Fight a boss. "Blaziestmost" would be optimal. Never casts it, ever. Healer guy Cristo keeps spamming instant death spells on monsters that are immune to it. Was just the start of the series screwing over mages big time.

Of course I'll agree Marin Karin itself is a waste of a skill slot - it's a game where monsters die in two hits. What's the point having control spells when you'll be killing everything in one action solo by the end of the game. When hitting a weak element is a control spell automatically?

So I've forced myself back into Persona1 on PSP.

Man this game's becoming a slog. I already said the wrong thing to Aki and earned myself the bad ending several hours before the end of the game. (I looked up what other conversation outcomes are. Just began the Castle.
I'm getting through dungeons with character levels too low to negotiate/recruit demons anymore.
I don't wanna grind unless I really have no choice.
I've maxed out my card slots anyway, and can only fuse useless personas or ones that are wayy too high level.

you can charm a ridiculous amount of the tartarus bosses, especially the ones with 3 enemies

Great, no more BS like what happened with SMTIV.

This all applies to the Snow Queen route too. I was enjoying it with the ps1 music modded back in, loved the frozen school & story of this route.

However the 3rd tower/dungeon -Thanatos, is hell.
One character loses a persona as soon as you walk in, others will lose them permanently if they get KO'd.
Any character without a persona is essentially useless.
An abundance of enemies that use mamudo/instadeath multi target spells in the huge first floor. :|
The enemies are generally much tougher and too high leveled for me to recruit.
Also you can't warp out of the dungeon once it starts, you either play till you win or you lose all progress.

I could grind at the only place I can, the optional dungeon Devil's Peak. However the exp gain is garbage, it will take forever in a battle system that's not particularly fun.

Gamefaqs suggests farming at the casino for ages to try and buy tablets that'll teach personas killer spells. FFF that!

Either I give up at this point, or hella grind, or go back in and try to negotiate every mudo using enemy away/ somehow make it to the place I can retrieve personas, however far in that is!

Would not recommend P1 to anyone tbh.

Agreed, and I wouldn't recommend Innocent Sin either. Eternal Punishment is good, though, the standout of the first three games.

I fused a new persona in order to beat the game, it was called "Saveus Status"

Thanatos wasn't so bad with states after I made it through the first two floors and got personas back.
Every boss from then on was an overlong shit show as MC had a magic immune persona and did piddly gun damage on auto-battle while everyone else lay dead.

Final dungeon was a lot easier and almost fun as I fused a New 'sona with Megidolaon after getting the tablet to do so as a reward. Finally some decent magic damage.

Final boss 2nd attempt was another such shitshow. 3 characters magic immune, healing and buffing while MC stood at the front and blapped the night queen with an uzi.
Glad I stuck with it cause I really don't like giving up.

Again, would not recommend!
Might resume my Digital Devil snes playthrough now.

These games really do have the wonkiest balance. By the end of Devil Survivor, almost every unit worthy of note is immune to Physical and most element types. The only way to deal and take consistent damage - non-resistible Holy element.

I know it's about the concept of moving up into a power bracket of literal gods over time, it's not about pokomon style rock paper scissors, but eh.

@Blinge - If you're going to explore the SFC Megatens, aside from the obvious I, II, IF, I strongly reccomend KyuuyakuMT, which comprises of remakes of MT1&2 with SFC era graphics, smooth menus and a god tier Hitoshi Sakimoto arranged OST. 2 is worth skipping aside its weird thematic similarities to Fallout (Wasteland?) but KMT1 is one of the best crawlers I've ever played, and my favourite mainline Megaten bar SMT2.

There's something about that game that really resonates with me. Interlocking dungeon after dungeon with no respite. Even the towns are just corners of the dungeon. But the pumping sampled drums and dayglo walls provide a weirdly contrapuntal levity. It's almost like a super chirpy proto Kings Field.

The original FC OSTs were pretty great too, if simple. Very catchy.

Atlus is weird. They post this SJR trailer showing a side-scroller game featuring Jack Frost and Jack-o’-Lantern, ending it with "This is a lie". OK.
Today they make the game available for download. Wut. :|

SMTV announced for Switch.
I hope the Switch does alright, since these companies are pooling their good IPs to it. And when I mean alright, I mean at least half as good as the 3DS.

It seems to be doing alright in Japan, supply shortages considered. Dunno about other territories.

Man I do not look forward to hunting one of those down...

Also, hoping for dual protagonists... the clear highlighting of the pair in the beginning gives me hope:

Looking good, though of course we still don't really know anything about the game. I'm hoping they try for something novel in the basic gameplay. Maybe even a drastic shakeup to the demon fusion system. I haven't even played many SMT games (SJ, 4, P3), but the basic progression feels rather copy-pasted from game to game, and for close to 100 hour games, I'm less and less willing to play something where so much of the game is a retread of something I've experienced multiple times before.

Atlus' trolling aside, I just finished this thing and it's pretty darn good, especially for a freebie promo game; apparently the guy who did Pharaoh Rebirth did this. If they expanded it and released it as a full game I'd definitely pick it up.

Atlus had a killer sound engine. The FC MTs and the Atlus made King of Kings were helped by a special sound chip, but Xexyz and Bio Warrior Dan also have killer soundtracks.

Yeah, I agree. There's no shortage of "classic" gods and demons around the world, but "modern" myths are a nice addition. I loved to read the story behind every demon I fused in SJ and IV/Apocalypse.

My favorite would be Aradia, if she ever had a unit made of her. A "false" god from another universe outside of Yahweh's creation.

The same stock characters can get stale after awhile, you know?
