Wow, what a nice movie. I miss good stuff like this. This was Vin Diesel's best role, imo.
Cool Hand Luke (1967)
Brilliant movie with great performances from Paul Newman and George Kennedy (nailed the Oscar for Supporting Actor, and well deserved it was. )

Charmless 2001 caper movie with Sigourney Weaver and Jennifer Love Hewitt as a mother/daughter team of gold-digging con artists that mostly leaves you hoping their characters end up in jail. Redeemed slightly by Ray Liotta's wiseguy character. Basically it's a discount Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and I'd recommend seeing that one instead.
Laura (1944)
Great noir story, and some funny and well written dialogue between the characters, whose actors did some amazing performances. Gene Tierney was freaking stunning. Her life was quite sad, though.

A pretty by-the-numbers tale of the capture of one of Hitler's lieutenants after WWII's end. Not that it was bad by any measure...actually, I liked it well enough, but nothing super-consequential. The actors did a good job with a pretty good script, and everything came together decently. It just isn't going to set anyone's world on fire, cinematically. Not sorry I spent the time to see it, though, at all.
A somewhat feminist biographical account of the relatively short period of Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin's life between falling in love with Shelley and publishing Frankenstein, including the famous vacation in Geneva.
The focus of the "story" is explaining (in rather simple and simplistic ways) how a young girl happened to write a masterpiece: an abnormally cold and intellectual approach to the thrilling and passionate lives of a group of interesting people, told in a curiously distant and vague style, with words and concepts prevailing over events and feelings.
Recommended for fans of the implausibly gorgeous Elle Fanning (Mary) and Douglas Booth (Shelley), not for the historical or literary interest.

I saw that recently too. Hilarious movie. I also saw an episode of Batman The Brave and the Bold that referenced it.
I enjoyed Laura quite a bit too. The actor who played Waldo Lydecker was the original Mr. Belvedere in the movie Sitting Pretty. Hilarious movie.
I watched I Confess and Palm Beach Story. Both were excellent. The former is classic Hitchcock about a priest who is told a confession of murder on the confessional and the later is a hilarious comedy about a lady who comes up with a crazy get rich quick scheme (go to Plam Beach for a divorce and marry someone with cash) with lots of crazy things happening on the way.
I Walk the Line (1971)
We have a great free tv channel in the UK called Talking Pictures TV. All it shows is old films, mostly from the 30's to 50's but at night we get some weird 70's stuff. I'd never heard of this before, thought it was that shitty biopics, but it does contain a load of Johnny Cash music.
Gregory Peck plays an upstanding sheriff in some small back woods town controlling moonshiners. A new family arrive and he falls for the girl, played by Tuesday Weld. It's great. Not a huge fan of Peck but I think he was well cast. His marriage is going to shit and he goes bonkers over Weld - who wouldn't.
It's one of these films where if you've ever been in a situation like that.... you can definitely relate. Even though he seems far more worldly and intelligent than her, she takes on a terrifying wisdom once she has him.
Just another little 70's film that dripped out in that great decade. Nothing special be still better than most stuff made in the last 20 years.
Suspiria (1977)
My girlfriend is working her way through some italian films and she hadn't seen it. She liked it a lot, could see why I was always harping on about it being one of the best looking films ever made. The colours, production design, everything look fantastic. Also, some of the little camera moves that Argento does are really great. The story is good, but it suffers from the usual boring exposition scenes that he seems to put in most of his films.
The remake is coming out and I want to see it. From the trailer I've seen it at least looks interesting. Seems like the director hasn't tried to copy the visuals... but the visuals are what makes the original so good, so who knows.
As much as I've generally enjoyed the various MCU movies, I still got the feeling I was watching this one more out of a sense of obligation than anything. Felt a bit like one of those "clip show" episodes a TV show makes when they run out of material. It almost feels like they took deleted scenes from various Thor, Iron Man, Spider Man, Doctor Strange, Guardians, Captain America and Black Panther movies and threw in a few Thanos clips to tie them together. Ultimately gets pretty dark, but even then still felt a lot more entertaining than any of the DC Murderverse films.
Thought this one might be more than what it was, considering the buzz around it. Watchable if you skip past the flashback origin story + "romance" section. Otherwise bog standard fare you've seen a million times before, with a couple f-bombs and a bit of gore thrown in.
Hombre (1967)
It was fine, I guess, nothing to write home about. Paul Newman's character was dry as hell, but that may be due to his backstory and the events him and the other characters go through.

And the sequel of Deadpool 2 directed by the same guy whom directed John Wick: Chapter 2 & Atomic Blonde shows his cool directing skills with some over-the-top action scenes indeed.
There's an insider joke mentioned in DP2 that begs to continue the John Wick franchise with "John Wick: Chapter 3 -- Ex Communicado". (I'd imagine the action scenes for a third JW sequel would top the action scenes & gun fights shown in JW:C2 quite easily -- it's a no-brainer that the main character of JW has some cool digs stashed worldwide if it needed be along with the obligatory vehicles and weaponry + ammo to take everyone down as they're gonna try to take him down once the alloted "hour's up" at the conclusion of JW:C2. The real question is: Will John Wick get to his hidden safe house(s) in time and gain the upper hand over his fellow assassins {considering that they have the same training as he does, indeed}? What other cool tricks does John Wick have up "his sleeves" to get out of those insane gun fights and close-quarter fighting action scenes alive?)
A fourth sequel is in the works for the upcoming "The Expendables 4" slated for a 2020 theatrical release with Syl & Co. -- it's been "green-lit" for filming shortly.

The Last Witness
Second time watching this, and had mostly forgotten anything about this. Greed, lust, and revenge mixed in with a little bit of military crap lends itself to a very good South Korean detective movie from 1980 that is very much worth watching.
Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom (2018)
First hour had the more interesting story, but they decided to switch it right there so they could do Dino Crisis in the Resident Evil One setting, in order to set a sequel(s). Great.
So what, three more movies where Humanity kills itself and dinosaurs remain, repeating the cycle of Nature? Fuck off, you can't do Planet Of The Apes again.
Even Jeff Goldblum's role was just eye candy for nostalgia, Christ...

For a second you had me thinking Harrison Ford's been continuing with the unnecessary sequels to his earlier films and made a sequel to "Witness." Then he'll make Frantic 2. Here's my pitch: The first line of the movie is, "Oh no, not again!"

I think I'm done with Disney Marvel movies. I like some, have really liked some...but they are really cookie cutter. And I'm tired of this jokey tone they all seem to have now. That's why I haven't seen Ragnarok.
It was fine for Guardians, because it was basically a live action Pixar movie, and was different.
I liked the Russo's Cap movies a whole lot. But this....it was just empty to me. Too much action, and not enough substance. And to make that worse, when you did have story stuff, and talking...a lot of the dialogue was 3rd rate Whedon.
It was entertaining....but it was just hollow to me.
I liked Thanos though.
I would have these same complaints anyway....but as a fan of The Infinity Gauntlet, this could have been tons better.
But it couldn't even hold a candle to Winter Soldier or Civil War.

Rather lame attempt at making Ben Affleck look like an action hero. After having his memory erased after three years of working on an unknown project, he suddenly gains the power of plot convenience and uses it to escape from your standard cliched evil corporation and/or become a total Mary Sue. Also contains what may be the worst attempt at depicting the city of Seattle in a movie ever seen. Absolutely nothing in the film bears any resemblance to Seattle in real life.
Revenge (2017)
The young and pretty Jennifer and her married lover Richard have a few days of vacation in a nice mansion in the middle of the desert (somewhere in the south of the USA in the fiction, but filmed in Morocco, near Ouarzazate and Casablanca).
When the man's two friends join him to go hunting, one of them rapes Jennifer, and her complaints cause Richard to push her off a cliff.
Jennifer survives, and revenge begins while the three bastards attempt, in turn, to kill Jennifer.
Excellent casting (particularly Kevin Janssens as the despicable Richard) and, despite minor mistakes, very good writing and photography, in a rather realistic style, culminating in a magnificent firefight between Jennifer and Richard in the house.
The MEG - Very watchable despite sub-par acting throughout and many attempts at humour that didn't work.
MI: Fallout - Pretty good. A bit darker than the other MIs, but that's not surprising considering the subject matter. I liked the inclusion of the DELbruuk character at the beginning
Hummingbird (Statham) - Not too bad. I liked the Nun storyline.

I have Paycheck. I have to agree with you that it doesn't bother to depict Seattle very well at all. Interesting 'War view into the future' towards the end, considering the location.

I think I'm down for Friday w/ a friend. I always say I'm going to go check out Lawrence of Arabia on 70mm but I know they'll show it again next time! One of these days...
