On the Projecr A tip Eureka just did a set with both movies but it’s region locked to Europe. I’m sure it looks great and a region free player is a must if you’re watching anything outside the mainstream on disc. A little expensive but the Oppo players are great

I went to the oppo website and it says they are going to stop making new products.

Paprika (2006) - Satoshi Kon

Pretty sure that this is the first Satoshi Kon film, that I have seen.
This one did not do much for me.
The music, on the other hand, I found very good.

I'll stick at it. Tokyo Godfathers (2003), next.

I've just got a modded LG myself. Not sure if it's easier to do yourself nowadays, but there's plenty of sites that sell modded cheapos.

I'm a bit iffy about getting a regional player solely for EU releases, especially since there are still some fine US/JP releases of movies (and I heard even a few of the Eureka releases of HK films aren't perfect in regards to color timing and subtitles). If I do get one, PAL support is a must since I have a TV that supports PAL.

I have been watching Christmas themed movies lately. Last one I watched was Stalag 17. Not really a Christmas movie, per se, but it does have some memorable scenes related to Christmas. Excellent movie too, with memorable performances by Peter Graves, Sig Ruman, and William Holden.

Sucks Oppo is going to stop making players, they’re going to get quite rare and expensive soon. They also convert PAL and all the hz differences no problems on US TVs.

Really good Arrow/Third Window/Shameless/Terracotta sale on Arrow's site right now. Region free or bust!

I have only seen Perfect Blue. Not bad, but at the point I watched it (not that long ago) part o the enjoyment was nostalgia of early 00's Japanese web design which is still in place today on many sites. :|

FWIW, I've had Paprika in my queue for about 10 years now when a friend hooked me up with it. Guess I'll get around to it some day.

"Green Book"

Very good, and I went in with higher-than-usual expectations, meaning it really did a great job. This wasn't just a good movie about people, it was also surprisingly funny/entertaining, more so than I thought it might be. If the trailer made you laugh or smile, rest assured that there's plenty more in there to leave you laughing and happy.

Recommended. I went with a date and we both enjoyed it a great deal.

Top Secret!: **1/2

One of the lesser known films from the ZAZ (Zucker, Abrahams and Zucker) trio responsible for Airplane! and the Naked Gun movies. This one's a combination of a cold war spy film and (inexplicably) an Elvis Presley movie, with their typical slapstick. Suffers a bit from the same "dated references" problem that a lot of the other 80s parody films do, but not so much as Airplane! does. Ultimately it's a weaker film than the better known ones above, but it definitely has its moments. This seems to be one of those genres that basically disappeared because Hollywood doesn't know how to do it anymore. Notable mostly as the film debut of Val Kilmer.

I need to go through this again. Maybe it's not aged well but as a kid I hurt my stomach laughing.

It's "lesser known" where? The North Pole? Here in Sweden for example, everyone born in the 60's up to 80's know it. If you want a modern take on this type of comedy, check out the 2014 release "They Came Together" with Paul Rudd and Amy Pohler in the leads. It's basically a rom-com parody movie with gags similar to what ZAZ did.

I'm sure it's a film that has gotten plenty of airplay on cable TV, but compared to their other films it's not as well known. Airplane! is frequently on top 10 lists of all time greatest comedy films, and the first Naked Gun movie often isn't far behind. This one bombed in the theaters when it came out but became a cult hit later on.

Kung Fu Hustle is in my top three. Saw it blind in the village back in 2004, didn't know a thing about it and half the subtitles were cut off the screen.

Went back the same day and saw it again proper. Fantastic movie in every regard.
My lord, I have come for you.

How did it rank compared to the last one you watched? Haven't seen this in a while but did enjoy it. Some great fights... quite funny too.

Princess Mononoke
Blind buy, and enjoyed the hell of out it. Fantastic all around, and GKids is doing Ghibli proud with their releases. Where as the Disney release of the same movie had no actual subtitles for the Japanese language track, GKids threw that on there. Amazing score, good plot, and fantastic visuals. I like how there was a stark contrast between life and death in the animation.

I also saw it knowing nothing and smiled throughout the entire film. that particular scene, using a guzheng as a weapon and playing "The Blade of Gu Qin", is a favorite.
