Saturn and sound effects.

Post by Neon »

Is it just me, or does this seem to be a problem with every saturn game? They always seem kind of muffled or scratchy. I just got street fighter zero 3, everyone said it was better than arcade perfect, but the punches/kicks seem a little scratchy, and the announcer's voice is distorted and barely audible. Same problems in pretty much every game I have. In strikers 2 the sound seems to be actually a bit better than the playstation version (and better balance between music/sfx) though the 'ding' after the main menu is distorted.

I noticed the same with VF2's voices. Muffled. IIRC, the PSX uses some sort of lossless 2:1 compression scheme for the voice samples, and streamed music. The Saturn does uncompressed PCM samples which require lower quality if they are to take less space.

Feel free to correct me, anyone.
