What [not shmup] game are you playing now?

Anything from run & guns to modern RPGs, what else do you play?

Good gravy, what a chronic fuckup LKD is. I've been out of the loop on the whole Gamers v Journalists thing for a year now. A cursory google nets this trainwreck.

It's gotten a bit samey tbh but some of this material is fairly classic. Image

I feel like SJW, getting all up in the DISCOURSE, is like a drug to some people.
The outrage, pouncing on something like this. IT HAS A DISABILITY SLURR!!!

The judgement, the dopamine hit, the moral superiority must be a heady mix.

It's similar to how conspiracy nuts start with something small, then a bit more, until *everything* now fits into the grand conspiracy. Every new piece of information adds to the feedback loop.

Same with redpillers, incels. Add jargon to the mix and we're off at the races.

Yeppppp. Some people make that stuff their entire life/identity.

I just laugh at the Cuphead guy every time. I wonder how he manages to breathe though.

In my experience, add internet to anything - anything - and you have an explosive diarrhoea shitshow. It gets everywhere!

My old nan (SHE DEAD :O PRESS F PLS) once announced she'd rather not bother with the internet, as there wouldn't be anything about knitting. It's fondly remembered anecdote among my family, still. But holy fuck I can only imagine what she - and we! - were spared. She was a real cantankerous oldie. Would've probably started GG fifteen years early.

And whoa, I just NAILED the UK spelling of "diarrhoea" totally blind! I usually have to look it up (it's not a word I type often)! I've always preferred the look of it - the "O" gives an appropriately guttural aspect, lost in the kinder US spelling. Image

You're sure to be in a fine haze about now, but don't think too hard about all of this. Just go out and kill a few beasts. It's for your own good. You know, it's just what hunters do! You'll get used to it.

I propose that we send this awful SJW talk back to the GamerGate thread and get back to talking about Game & Watch games.

Donkey Kong Jr. is interesting in that you actually have a scoring option in the form of the fruit. Do you rush your way to Donkey Kong's cage to take full advantage of the score bonus, or do you wait to drop fruit on enemies for potentially greater gains? Different amounts of points are given based on how close the enemy is to the ground, with three different heights for enemies. A well-timed drop can actually take out enemies on all three levels at once.

You can also milk the score indefinitely by sitting at the top and jumping over enemies for 1 point each. It's a slow and boring way of doing it, but it works.

Green House also awards more points for close call KOs, introducing a risk-reward element into an otherwise repetitive game. In the same vein, Oil Panic awards more points for emptying a full bucket.

The remake of Chef in Game & Watch Gallery 2 is another favorite of mine. There's another version included in Gallery 4, but the faster movement speed makes that version a little too easy since you don't need to switch Yoshi's position as often.

The tabletop DK Jr. also has a fruit to drop on enemies (in this case, a coconut). The second half of the playfield is inspired by one of the AC version's cutscenes with Jr. riding on ballons and umbrellas over water trying to get the keys to DK.

that dumb fucking cunt is never joking about this shit. god damn, if i ever read her name again it will be too soon. everyone, look out! the tyrannical specter of meritocracy is present in animal crossing, a game where you... design clothes for your friends and become friends with animal people????

unrelated to her, specifically, but the last thing i remember reading before i could not tolerate this vein of shit anymore and eventually considered posting here (frankly been a pretty good time, overall) was some article by a self-identified "crust punk" - which, for the unfamiliar, is someone who deliberately does not bathe frequently. i remember searching "pokemon communist" to see if anyone had written a jarringly stupid article trying to pidgeonhole pokemon into their political corner so that they felt more ethically sound in playing it, and then immediately found something so stupid that i think my brain finally fucking snapped.

they wrote about how the world of pokemon espouses the ideals of a communist utopia because of things like communal berry fields (started around gen 3 or 4?) and pokemon centers offering free and immediate health care (i'm not going to re-read it, but i found it within seconds of google searching here). never mind, of course, that the entire game is based on an extremely eugenics-driven cockfighting economy in which other children will literally force you to battle them until you and your creatures pass out, upon which they are entitled to half of the money you're carrying. if you want to examine pokemon's politics, i really do not fucking think it goes anywhere pretty, and god damn if these people do not leap over themselves to believe nintendo as a corporation is also somehow their friend. the completely ludicrous cognitive dissonance going on to shill for nintendo to the point of glorifying their most lucrative game's politics while also thinking this behavior is somehow highly leftist! the sheer fucking absurdity of it!

these people are dumber than fucking dirt and their media consumption is entirely built on wanton consumerism that they just jump through mental hoops to believe is more virtuous than that of anyone else's. constant fucking histrionic discourse about how their chosen media is either aligned on the ambiguously 'important' level with their politics, how someone shouldn't play this or that kind of game because it isn't aligned, or how it totally isn't aligned *but* they've managed to frame it as self-care and can acquiesce guilt from a point of high authority while you can't, because you didn't do the deep thinking. pretending to boycott nintendo every other release because of this or that and then buying the immediate next game and talking about it to the point of being more effective advertising than conceivably engineerable by nintendo, themselves. social cannibalism over who isn't agreeing with them on which of the three directions they're currently facing. criminy fucking jesus christ, it makes me want to swallow a gun barrel.

i'm someone who does believe in almost everything being inherently political and analyzing what one consumes, i'm a weirdo tranny leftist, but fuck! aaaaaa!!!! AAAAAAAAAA!!!!

Many people that decry socialism and whatnot are also happy with public schools, firefighters etc...

Anyway, more Yakuza five. I just found out that much of the fandom in Japan hated the baseball guy in this game. Even shitty Baba was more popular. He has actually been my favorite besides Kaz.

Got around to reading this and lol. People really do go through these hoops and it's so wild. Idk maybe just enjoy stuff for what it is but that's probably too hard for them since every aspect of their life has to be centered around their social politics.

I'm about 3 hours into Resident Evil Remake3 and so far it's great.

With talk of tabletop games I've be playing Tomy's port of Mr. Do! Even though it's been simplified it's still playable in the same way as the arcade game. It bonkers how good it is for one of these games. Almost clocked it last week.

Yup, back when it launched digitally on the PS3. :) Most sheer content of the whole lot, though I recall it could also drag quite a bit, since as per usual for the series you can't switch back and forth between characters until the very end, which IMO would have especially helped to keep things fresh in this particular case.

5 and 0 are both so bloated I'd call it a draw. I've got razor focus for this series, it and From games draw me in like just about nothing else in modern gaming.

I tend to give Zero a semi-pass on this front because it regularly switches up between the two characters/locations throughout, instead of making you play all the way through one before even starting the other; you can fart around in either place for as long as you want, then when you say "eh, it's about time for a change of scenery" you just advance the story a bit and head back to the other place/plot you haven't touched for awhile, and start the cycle over. As such personally I found it much easier to keep from feeling bogged down in Zero than in 4 or 5.

(edit: oops, top-of-page post, talking about yakuza series)

i remember loving 1 (man that dub sucks but mark hamil as majima was fucking great), loving 2, and then purchasing 3 to support the series because of the censorship controversy and wanting to see continued localization over here..... and then never playing it. i don't even think i installed it. 1 and 2 have been remade by this point and i'm wondering if i should get back into the series at all.

I recall rather liking the dub, better than Persona 3 FES, at least (which was not ALL bad either, just about halfly so). Haruka was outstandingly well dubbed, to my ears (and eyes, for the dub always works with picture in games and films). Wasn't it recorded largely with the staff who voiced WET (a game I'm planning to revisit - and hopefully finish - soon)?

The Kiwami games are pretty much just far better versions of the original two. There is an area cut from 2, but it's an acceptable loss imo. You can play the entire mainline series on PS4 now and probably for about $15 a game so there has really never been a better time to do it if you do decide to do it. It's one of my all time favorite franchises but it depends what you are looking for in a game. They are definitely about the experience and total package. Some of the gameplay is pretty janky on a technical level.

Bullshit talk
Spoiler
The only thing I am kinda sad about is cutting the trans stuff from 3 in the remaster. They left all the other trans (and homosexual for that matter) stuff alone so it just seems like an odd decision to cut that particular bit.
I remember not liking the dub either, I put it up there with Chaos Wars, Arc Rise, Shenmue 2 etc... But regardless of how good it is, these games being in Japanese just fits better.
