AFAIK, Street Fighter 3: Third Strike* is the only Dreamcast game that can run at 320X240.
All those other games you listed are 640X480i.
Moste game you listed work with the vga cable.
Jeez, I thought you had discovered a way to make all of these other games run in lo-res! Or is there a way?......
What's this list for?

no (although that almost beats your DVD is 480i comment).... it's low res with no filtering. so are the other games this guy states are low res. well, unless you are running them via VGA... but I think most are smart enough on that topic.I remember Bangai-O looking like total shit. filtered, interlaced, the works
I don't have a dreamcast anymore, so I can't check.

Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

You did something wrong. It supports 240p.D wrote:I remember Bangai-O looking like total shit. filtered, interlaced, the works
I can guarantee you the JP version supports RGB... as does the NTSC-J version of Gunbird 2. It's some cocked up horse shit w/ the white versions.I think it's because it doesn't support RGB

Maybe I should look around for a new RGB-cable then :s With my 3rd party cable there's colour bleed and whatnot in both bangai-o and gunbird 2 on my TV.. it's noticeably more blurry compared to any saturn or psx game.GaijinPunch wrote:You did something wrong. Re:
hate to bump a 4 year old thread, but I have some new information about this. capcom blocked RGB on the US realese od Gunbird 2 for some reason, just like they did with Third Strike. I found that you can enable it with the same patch, but you only need to apply 2 of the 4 steps found here:GaijinPunch wrote:I can guarantee you the JP version supports RGB... as does the NTSC-J version of Gunbird 2. you willl only find these two:
also, everyone seems to think that for 3S RGB was blocked only for European consoles, but as far as I can tell it was blocked on North American ones as well. maybe it just wasn't reported becuse almost no one in NA used RGB.3) look for

Re: Dreamcast High-Resolution and Low-Resolution games list.
I think all the NG:Dev stuff is low res. GunLord and Fast Striker are at least. Or they do a convincing impression of it on my CRT.
Aren't all the CPS2 ports scaled up even though they might be in a low res video mode? I know the shmups are (I see you got those).

Re: Dreamcast High-Resolution and Low-Resolution games list.
I agree that they are 240p.
Re: Dreamcast High-Resolution and Low-Resolution games list.
The first list looks spot-on for 240p. I'm not sure what the second list is supposed to represent though. If it's referring to 480p, here's a comprehensive list: http://www.epforums.org/showthread.php? ... ility-list
CPS2 fighters display the same borders on the DC as on their original hardware so given the resolution differences, I'd imagine there's rescaling going on (unlike the 32-bit trend of cutting off excess pixels and stretching the rest to fill the screen). They all appear to be scaled too much in fact, which makes everything look too thin. Oddly enough, there aren't any major mechanical issues because of the visual differences.

Re: Dreamcast High-Resolution and Low-Resolution games list.
I assumed it was a list of low resolution games that for some reason run in 480i or 480p (depending on the cable connected)
I am really surprized that no one has figured out how to patch these back to 240p, given how easy it is to patch games to support VGA. I gave it a shot, following the instructions for the VGA patch, but using the hex codes I found in Bangai-O. It was a no-go for CvS2. Maybe I should try a game that only has 240 lines of data, from that list.
Edit:
I've been told this by someone with DC programming experience:

It would need to be a per case scenario, and it would depend on the game engine supporting rendering in such resolutions.
Re: Dreamcast High-Resolution and Low-Resolution games list.
CvS2 is a hi res game even though the sprites are old 2D sprites. It´s 480p/i. So that would be hard to patch to 240p. Not impossible, but very very hard.antron wrote:I assumed it was a list of low resolution games that for some reason run in 480i or 480p (depending on the cable connected)

You could try CvSPro on the ps1, that´s 240p
Re: Dreamcast High-Resolution and Low-Resolution games list.
not a bad suggestion, but I'm reading not so hot things about that port.
I do see that you successfully patched MotW for 240p on the PS2. Nice find! I may try that out.
As for the DC, I may try VGA through my emotia and see how that looks for CvS2 (and others)
Added: The Emotia works pretty well with DC VGA.

Re: Dreamcast High-Resolution and Low-Resolution games list.
I just use the SLG3000 to add scanlines to 2D stuff with no 240p mode on the DC. Works wonders.

Re: Dreamcast High-Resolution and Low-Resolution games list.
I'm using a low-res CRT. And it's not so much the scanlines I want, as it is a reduction of flicker. 480i really gives me a headache up close.
But I will try that someday when I get a high-res cab. I just need a garage again...

Just found one more game to the 240p list - Daytona USA 2001 (Ntsc USA)

Re: Dreamcast High-Resolution and Low-Resolution games list.
Im thinking it's strange too! because one more game to try, one more game in 240p, in this case: "Resident evil code veronica" Ntsc Usa version.
I remember playing this games in the past and they don't look like this. First let me tell you i have a PAL dreamcast, and a vga box, and in this 2 particular games, that i have the original european version, i have grabbed a CD-r version, just because:
Resident evil code veronica PAL don't have VGA support
Daytona USA 2001 have some remixed audio tracks
And on this CDr versions i have:
Resident evil CV Ntsc usa with vga support
Daytona USA with original arcade audio tracks injected.
But now i remember, the zip comes with a patch, just for PAL users, the info on it says "pal users use the fix for 60hz, or the game will display in 50hz" maybe this fix is making the games 240P ?!?

Re: Dreamcast High-Resolution and Low-Resolution games list.
So those two 3d games have scan lines in them? Weird. I'm questioning all I know to be sane and just.

Re: Dreamcast High-Resolution and Low-Resolution games list.
I'm confused here. If they're played through VGA then by definition they're not 240p.Overkill wrote:First let me tell you i have a PAL dreamcast, and a vga box

Re: Dreamcast High-Resolution and Low-Resolution games list.
I have the vga box, and the two games play with the VGA box in 480p ofcourse. I don't have explained right, the reason i said i have the vga box is just to tell you why i have downloaded a CDr version of the resident evil CV game when i have an original PAL one. The PAL don't work with the VGA box, the Ntsc usa and Jap version works. BUT after the test in the vga box i plugged the Scart rgb to my phillips cm8833 crt monitor just to see visual diferences. And then the scanlines show... BUT again, i don't remember this two games working in 240p when i played it years ago on my crt tvI'm confused here. Re: Dreamcast High-Resolution and Low-Resolution games list.
Your patch is definitely doing something screwy to the game-- my original North America Daytona USA disc is high res interlaced when played on a standard def CRT.
Oh god, now I want to set up my wheel again and resurrect that Daytona USA thread
