Thanks for the heads-up, Elixir. I'm going to add this to my Mushihime order to have them shipped together.

This is the only game that's holding me back from selling my Wii.

"We concepted out this game as an arcade-like title, but if you made a game this long for the arcades, the operators would kill us," Maegawa joked. "It's arcade-style, yes, but in terms of volume, it's a different story." Hitoshi Yamagami, project director at Nintendo, agreed: "You can't really compare the number of stages as they're all different sizes, but in terms of playtime it's easily twice the size [of the original]."

This being a Treasure title, Sin & Punishment 2 will also have a variety of difficulty levels, from an Easy mode that allows most people to reach the end of the game to a Hard setting that Yamagami says "is for chosen ones only." Ooooh.

I wonder when the inevitably terrible US box art will be unveiled.

This is really the first worrisome thing I've heard about this game, as it suggests a single playthrough would last at least an hour and a half. Of course, Gradius V showed Treasure could fill a 70-80 minute game with varied and polished content throughout, but as a game gets longer it's harder to remain compelling for repeated score attack and tension dissipates as the difficulty curve stretches.

I think they look good on the cover, but in game it sorta looks like you're wearing go go boots.

FROTHING DEMAND!!! :D I can't wait for this! At the end of the video they show the Wii Zapper and GameCube controllers, among others, so I wonder if we'll have to have Wii Motion Plus to play this?

WiiMotion Plus wouldn't really help at all if you're just using it as a pointing device. I wouldn't think it would need it.

Yeah, that's a good point. It looks like Treasure hasn't changed any of the core gameplay mechanics, like swatting back enemy missiles with your sword, which is a good thing! As for the character designs, does anyone else think the main characters look like the one's from Quartet?

Has it been confirmed that you can play this with the GC or Classic Controllers? Because the whole wiimote thing is really holding back my enthusiasm. I hate that shit.

I see that it shows those controllers at the end, but I don't know what the guy is saying.

EDIT: Never mind, I have found some articles about it. I'm now excited.

Oh, and it also got:

Sin and Punishment 9/9/9/9

from Famitsu.

Whenever this first comes out, can some kind soul confirm that this will play in Gecko OS? I'd really rather not wait.

That Famitsu score may be wrong.

Another person who has seen scans on NeoGAF is reporting 8/8/8/7.

Sin and Punishment 2 Talk with Iwata

Post by adversity1 »

The whole S&P2 thread should be in this forum IMO. You shoot stuff and push that number up = shooter, but anyways:

http://wii.com/jp/articles/tsumitobatsu ... index.html

You can see Nakagawa, second to left (co-director of Ikaruga), and I believe Suzuki Eishi on the right who did Character/Object design for Ikaruga, Treasure head honcho Maekawa in the middle with the glasses.

Will post some highlights of the interview tonight if there are any. Just thought some of you might be interested in putting names to faces.

It's a pretty big deal that Iwata did this interview with their team I would think. Will be curious to see how the game sells given Nintendo's backing.

I'm pumped about this game, I hope there is a LE or pre-order bonus for the US release. (and the cover art isn't horrid)

Well, looks like this gets relegated to off-topic, but oh well.

The interview was interesting but didn't have too many stand out moments.

Nakagawa is pretty hilarious though, they must have put that dude through development hell with this game because there's a lot of points where he complains about how hard both the original and this one were to program, and then gets quiet and just nods until Iwata prods him on lol. Trauma.

This exchange was pretty funny. Yamagami, who is the producer for this game and was brought on specifically for it, talks about playing the original S&P in prep for building the new one.

Yamagami
So I told them "look, this game is too hard, I can't get anywhere in it"
and their response was "you're not the right guy for this job then"

When I told them "normal people wouldn't be able to play this" they said
"there's nobody in this company who can't play this game"
"if you can't play it, you shouldn't be a team member" ....

lol

Ironically, Nakagawa later goes on to describe how when they submitted S&P2 to Nintendo for approval, Nintendo came back and told them the game was too easy. They had apparently produced a deliciously difficult game using the gamecub controller, but with the nunchuk the game was apparently way too easy. So they had to adjust a lot of stuff to make it harder. Treasure!
