Mine is one everyone on this forum should know - it's the super-cool R9 spacecraft from the R-Type series! Yay!

I thought about taking the sprite of the ship in Armed Police Unit Gallop for my avatar but decided on my faithful ole' R9 anyway. Another choice would have been a Roger Dean painting... maybe 'sentinels'.

besides the mandatory mandela avvy for a few days, I now have a picture of Terry crying (same avvy I use at neogeo). He's so happy to have won a fight, the man cries.

What can I say, Terry just gets more love than his bro Andy :) thanks for pointing that out, tho.

And it's Bogard ;)

My current avatar is...me!

I used a Judge Spear animated GIF and the Thundercats villain Alluro as my previous avs on the older shmups board.

For those of you who have changed their avs since posting on this thread, give an update.
The age of Alluro and JudgeSpear is over.

I use two different ones... the current one (depending on when you read this!) is Baster - the 'sane' pilot from Radiant Silvergun.

The other is the Sega Saturn logo (blue planet with S-ring) with the word RESPECT below it.

I switch back and forth every half year.

Mine is currently a "TATE" badge I bought from the Tate Britain souvenirs shop in London one day after the London shmupmeet. I was visiting the gallery and couldn't help smiling when I saw all these merchandise products which seemed to be specially made for people who flip their TV sets.

I couldn't resist buying one of the badges. Of course I wear it vertically.

That'll put the hardcore crowd into place

In the past I used Alex from Alex Kidd in Miracle World as my avatar. Best platformer ever, IMO, and it's a shame no one mentioned it in the top 10 platformers thread yet.

Recently changed mine from the venerable Wile E. Coyote to Appli and Needle from the Cotton series...I liked the way the pic looked when I cropped it. Not to mention that the later Cotton games don't get nearly enough respect (and the earlier ones get too much, imo).

From the Japanese film, Ping Pong, starring Kobuzuka Yosuke as the main character, Peco, while he is wearing a mask on his face.

My avy right now is Rune the Esper/Wizzard from Phantasy Star IV.

I tend to change avys every 1 to 2 months though, so you can count on seeing something different.

Warren from the classic Kaneko fighter, Power Moves.
The expression on his character portrait is the oddest, most awkward one I've ever seen. It's hard to describe, really, except that it feels so very out of place. To me, I always viewed it as an old, out-of-shape man who knows he's going to get his ass kicked. And the mustache! roffles
Everytime I see it when I'm playing, I laugh.

Just for the sake of it. My avy is the ship from the Turboduo's Gate of Thunder. The only shmup that I really want to play, but still yet, never have played.

The fact that my old avatar was from a gun safety flier, and my current one is former NRA president Charlton Heston (as he appeared in The Omega Man) is too funny. I think I've got a theme running here...

My current avatar (as of 1-23-07) is an NPC from the PC shmup Tyrian, Transon Lohk. He was kind of annoying, but kind of endearing at the same time, so somewhat of a paradox. I don't look anything like him, just so you all know.
