I was hoping this would happen soon. Doubtful anything will show up in theaters before the end of the decade, but I wouldn't want this to get rushed.

Props to Aykroyd for not whoring the franchise out.

Also interesting that they talked to John Landis, who has directed a couple horror-themed pieces. Didn't know he had worked with Dan Aykroyd.

Ooo, really? Can't wait.
In the art of kenjutsu one must be like a dancer with their blade to confuse and destory their opponent in a beautiful display of gore and blood, along with a bit of sadistic laughter and a sarcastic voice that is deceptively sweet.

Well, here we are, one year away.

It can't come close to the first one, there's no hope of that. I dare hope that it might slightly rise above the dreck that passes for movies these days:

* No fun allowed. Don't want people having fun!
* CGI nonstop from beginning to end.
* No horror/downer elements. 100% HAPPY THOUGHTS always.

Any amount of fun, horror, and a judicious use of CGI would qualify it a success in my book.

--

27 years to wait for a spinoff. It really feels like there should be a million movies in this genre if not franchise, doesn't it? Like the Wizard of Oz. There should be the super terrible light fluffy kids edition, the grimdark "nothing you do improves things" nihilist edition, the "woah everything is on acid" alternate dimension version... Seems like a lot of unmined potential there.

Who am I kidding. Let's remake 80 successful 80's action movies by removing all the fun and originality and downgrading it to a PG-13 rating.

Weird seeing a thread bumped like this. Been a few modifications to the concept made since this thread was made in 2008 and I'm with pixeljunkie here: nothing good will come out of this new remake.

I tend to be more positive toward these kinds of things, but given the immense nostalgia this movie has to live up to, I can't see it being good.

Have you SEEN the shitty horror movies that are always getting crapped out? Horror != good.

There's a big difference between horror the intent and horror the effect.
Two working class dudes, one black one white, just baked a tray of ten cookies together.

An oligarch walks in and grabs nine cookies for himself.

Then he says to the white dude "Watch out for that black dude, he wants a piece of your cookie!"

Guys just because it's going to be absolute dogshit doesn't mean there aren't different levels of dogshit. I'd be content with a 2/5 and amazed at a 3/5. Not literally thinking about how I'd rather eat a bullet is what qualifies as "hollywood success" in my book.

How much can you even do in 90 minutes that's new(ish) that has the broad market appeal they lust after. All the easy obvious stuff was done around the 80's. You can't make a better Alien, just a worse one.

Agree, seems like a pre-ordained train wreck. Melissa McCarthy is good but it'll take more than one charismatic actor to carry this dead horse.

Saw the on-set photo of the ladies suited up. Word that best describes my emotion to it is, revulsion.

It really doesn't matter who they squeeze into the suits, the entire GB world was the actors from the original movies. At this point it just feels like necrophilia. Especially with.. you know... Harold being a corpse and all.

Plenty of ghost hunting movies that could have been made instead. Still optimistic for that distant possibility of a 2/5.

I didn't even like the second one.

This looks....ummm....different.

I think the first one was kind of lightning in a bottle.

My imaginary friend Jay told me the trailer was out so I gave it the once-over.

* Looks objectively beautiful.
* Writing appears to be objectively horrible.

I miss when movies could have good writing.

I feel like they started writing the movie solely on the idea of having an all female ghostbusting team.

"Nevermind the details, there are WOMEN taking charge! This is going to be a HIT!"

I imagine writing the story went something like that. Is edginess really all they think it takes?

I do agree, though. Graphically, it looked amazing.

The Zookeeper! With Ghosts!

Noteworthy film critic Roger Ebert would give this one four and a half stars.

The comedy video on the sidebar "Why this movie will be bad" had a good point about writing this as women pretending to be men.

I actually groaned at the bit where New Winston says "HEY GIRLS, I'M A SASSY street-wise BLACK WOMAN AND I'M GOING TO SHOW YOU nerds HOW IT'S DONE." That's.... that's like in a Garfield comic where they do a visual gag, and Garfield repeats the visual gag by remarking on the thing that you can see. Or in Dexter when Dexter is reading something and his Ghost Dad appears to read it out loud for you. The thing that you can already read. Because you're seeing it with your eyes.

Looks like a solid 2/5 I'm happy.

Look at it from my point of view:

If they keep cranking out shitty Ghostbusters movies, eventually, one time, they might accidentally make a good one just by random chance. Roll the dice 10,000 times and something decent might happen.

Am I wrong?
