Mercer Genesis 8-inch chef's knife ($40):

Image

My folks had been telling me for years about this restaurant supply store and I finally visited and picked up this knife for $40.

FOURTY DOLLARS! For a high-carbon forged German Steel chef's knife with a tang that goes through the handle. I always thought if you wanted a forged chef's knife you would at least be paying in the neighborhood of $140. I'd heard murmurings about these Victorinox knives for $60 that weren't as good as a Wusthof but pretty darn close. But here's this Mercer knife for $40 and everything I can find written about them is, "Oh yeah, by the way Mercer knives are identical in quality to a super-pricey Wusthof" and the only reason I can think of why they don't completely upend the knife market is they exclusively target professionals.

I suppose the handle made out of a silicone-esque material instead of wood doesn't look as nice, but frankly I prefer it that way because I have a more secure grip.

$40!!!

Seriously though. Where did you find it?
I kinda always wanted a knife like that, but like you, I figured they'd run me way too much.

I picked mine up at Boelter's Superstore, a restaurant supply store in Milwaukee, but Amazon carries them as well.

have you given it some use, yet? i've been needing to pick up a better multi-purpose kitchen knife for quite a while and would be curious to hear thoughts

Just took delivery of a Lotus Esprit V8.

You thought collecting arcade games was expensive? Try British sports cars.. :?

That's a sick get Rancor!

That model looks dope, love it
I love that era of sports cars and their designs so much (yours seem to pay hommage to the early incarnation of the V8, according to the 25th anniversary badge. But looks like the model hasn't changed much since the 90s anyway. which is great tbh)

I can't even bear to think of it.
This thing here is probably the most expensive thing I have ever bought (that is not a house), and I really hope to keep it that way:

Gotta get those weird region variants(,dude!)

Looking forward to the bottom 2 Namco titles, those are the only 2 to use full 8 channel wavetable from the N163 mapper chip.

There's a translation patch for Magic John out there, so you can have the original story or the "So 80's it hurts" variation.

It's kind of like how Samurai Pizza Cats took a show that was played totally straight and made it completely ridiculous.

I also remember playing Totally Rad as a kid, I remember really enjoying the gameplay and found the dialogue hilarious.

They almost both come off as the latter, just regionally different lol.

I still need to get the Famicom original Kabuki Quantum Fighter, Jigoku Gokuraku Maru(loosely based off an odd Japanese film) and Tokkyu Shirei Solbrain (Shatterhand) which is based off an old Toei tokusatsu program.

^ two of my favourite FC treasures, those. Got more in common than being uncommonly good licensed sidescrollers in CV-proportioned Compact Action Man mode, too. They're also up there with yet another licensed gem, FC Batman, for perfectly-judged pseudo-analogue gymnast maneuvers. Jigoku never quite gives the player hell like the other two's final stages but it's still a great run, especially in the almost totally gymnastic stages 3 & 5-2.

If I remember correctly, those were designed by Atlus (Namco also published their Megami Tensei games, the second of which uses 4 channels of N163). Erika to Satoru no Yume Bouken also has an infamous hidden message with Karate Kid NES music playing over it.

Awesome, Peter Stevens classic :D

Love the liberal sprinkling of Rover parts on these things.

Now all you gotta do now is find Julia Roberts...

Rocket Knight Adventure and Sparkster, Sunset Riders (JP) (4P version), CPS3 Darksoft MultiKit and a 20” Trinitron PVM. Found the Sunset Riders PCB for cheap and it’s a very nostalgic game for me (and I really enjoy it still) so I couldn’t pass it up. Also got Bionic Commando for the famicom aka. Hitler no Fukkatsu (cart only)
