You're right, I saw the gameplay definitely falls into the "vertical forced scrolling" category. On my to-get list now.

I'd add Capcom Generation 3 (Vulgus & Exed Exes) and 4 (Gun.Smoke) - lots of borderline goodies too (Son Son on 3, Senjou no Okami I & II on 4). Superb ports all, plus Pirate Ship Higemaru! Should be quite cheap too.

However, tbh, these discs (and CG2's Makaimura trilogy) are generally a bit better on PS1 - closer resolution, and in some cases (like Daimakaimura) less loading. However I know completionism (proud owner of Saturn and PS2 Dynamite Deka) so I'll give the SS versions my blessing too.

Fuck yeah, that's a beauty. Been revisiting early Motorhead lately, and badass grizzled ol' southern bluesmen have been high on my radar as a result. "I like what John Lee Hooker used to say about wanting to play until he drops, preferably onstage..."

60$ USD on amazon. dvd box set is 84$ USD. so if you don't have the dvd one already then definitely grab the blu ray.

picture is a tad better on blu ray to my eyes(maybe they used better encoding, or touched up the master(back of the box claim they have re-mastered it)) but not by much. still looks great though. And it fits in a single blu ray case and is on 3 BD50 discs, so that's a heck of a lot let disc swapping(dvd set has 21 discs!!!).

Sweet. I have been taking advantage of the Barnes and Noble Criterion sale too. Did you use the extra 15% off coupon? It know it doesn't work with the blu-rays, but when I ordered Thief of Bagdad DVD and it's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World blu-ray, it worked on the former.

Edit: I checked the site. It seems many Criterion DVDs still aren't eligible for coupons, but a few of the ones without Blu-ray releases are.

I had no idea. I might go back, I wonder if it's compatible with the ones I might get later. (Asphalt Jungle & My Darling Clementine)

I've never seen AJ, but it looks great. MDC is a classic.

additional album of pictures for those wishing to scrutinize the condition

i've picked up several games, recently, but this is the big one to brag about, and marks the most i've spent on a single game, yet ($280). i feel like i got a rather good price for this one, and on eBay of all places. the condition is not pristine, but that's perhaps what made me more confident bidding on it. i'd lost bids on or passed on many more of these in similar condition, and am pretty happy to have gotten this for what i did.

the notable condition flaws - which otherwise wouldn't bother me much, but given the price of high profile megadrive games, becomes something i more closely scrutinize - involve some staining on the back of the insert and on the back of the manual, as well as a flipped manual cover corner, a sliiiight corner peel (very minor) on the cart label, and some general scuffing. there's also a little bit of fading on the front cover from where the insert curves around the corner, visible in the above picture on the bottom left. mostly just love & age, imho. comes without the reg card, too, but i think i'll somehow survive.

i got this because i recently had a roommate move out and my partner get a job that's able to keep us kind-of sustained, so i turned that old room into a game room and spaced stuff out across the apartment to make it look much nicer. i really wanted some really cool stuff for the shelves to face forward, and my propensity for cutesy graphics, witches, the megadrive, and shooters made this all converge on being one of the big targets i was going after that just happened to have a good opportunity to pick up for relatively cheap. several of the other big considerations were megadrive games, too, i'm really in love with their boxes and wanting to finally get a little collection of them going (7 others on the way!). twinkle tale's box is gorgeous, at least to me, and i'm very happy to have it. very pleased with the lack of sunfade damage - the reds are still vibrant and really make this look great.

HUGE WARNING FOR MD COLLECTORS! (and i guess collectors of expensive jp stuff, in general)

be extraordinarily careful with what you're looking at, these days! some repros are starting to come with outward plastic sleeves that resemble authentic ones or using boxes from common games with reproduction inserts. a common sign of a repro is the plastic sleeve on the outer box being notably of a different texture and having 'streaks' that go horizontally as opposed to vertically, but it's getting harder to identify certain repros with more accurate methods of reproducing them and some tricky bullshit. registration cards are usually not included with reproductions (be particularly curious of a listing in pristine condition without one), but i've started to see what i suspect are repros with them, too.

in general, i would suggest looking for copies with a little bit of age and going for them. stuff like mild stains (ask your seller to take a picture of what the paper art insert looks like underneath - if it's got some yellow staining, which is very common, that's from age and it's almost certainly legit), little usage scuffs on the cart, etc. some repro sellers will deliberately inflict damage on their copies they're selling to make them look authentic, but the kinds of damage will be ones that don't show come with age and are easy to reproduce. seller by the name of evacave2003 (i think) on yahoo auctions japan sells a complete & loose recca for famicom every couple weeks, and always damages the box in some mild way to dupe those eager to part with their money.

another thing you should do (lest you deserve to be ripped off, in this day and age) is vet your fucking seller. look at both what he's sold recently and what he has for sale. check the closed search option on yahoo and see if he's sold something nearly identical to what you're looking at, and look at what else he's selling, too. most people selling repros specialize in selling duplicate copies of a couple games or will list a variety of high profile games in mysteriously pristine condition at once. is your seller also stocking jack bros, twinkle tale, and bare knuckle 3 while selling you this alien soldier? chances are, it's a scam!

One of my absolute must-have MD gems. Topdown shooting fusillade at face-shredding pace. All too obvious destined rival of SFC Kiki Kaikai! Image

And yet, bittersweet post. 3; I am so fucking glad I got my high-end MD collecting done in relatively sane times. Snapcase inserts and sealed carts are a dreadful combination in this scurrilous age.

Checking the number of copies sold of the same game by a seller, is indeed vital.

Im glad I sold my Twinkle Tale for $360, and got a $50 repro instead. Exact same experience and enjoyment.
Though for some dumb reason I slightly feel it sullies my library of MD games.
