Where are they now

Icarus - Spends just as much time browsing internet forums, only difference is that he posts on 4chan instead of lurks on it, and lurks on shmups instead of posts on it, also visits both forums in opposite proportions compared to before he asked an admin to disable posting rights for him on shmups

Mode7 - was pretty big on World of Warcraft until newbie with higher dragon kill points bought an item he wanted to use, deleted character in disgust and made a new one on another server and IT WILL TOTALLY BE DIFFERENT THIS TIME

click-stick - see Mode7

shoe-sama - now a full time member of the irc illuminati

sikraiken - embarked on real life falsificare adventure

Rob, bluberry, professor ganson - joined Twiddle (ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME) on his quest for the holy black man.txt only to be derailed by things such as actually playing games (the former did not actually happen)

bVork - likes Crysis, considered dead

Fighter17 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-OzIMHowtL8 (not really, now just posts at trading station)

Icarus = namefag?

shoe-sama is now an esteemed professor of economics at Local U.

p.s. I think you are mistaken about whose quest it was to find the black man.txt
or maybe I was... as I recall I gave up at F17's front door ;-; I couldn't summon the courage to face his inner demons with only a toilet plunger and brush

We must share a brain... I was going to do this thread, but was going to title it "Where are they now: Shmups Edition". Do you have a hangover too?

shmups is a very strict board with little scope outside of shmupping. Surely nobody can live here without needing a change. I only buy one shmup every 6 months now, whats to talk about?

Do you define "once in a while" as "lives there". Every time I pop in, he's there talking. :)

Since domestic and foreign console releases are scarce these days and I'm also picky, i'd gone back to PCB's. I also like the older stuff. I did buy Bakraid and DDP PCB's very recently though so i'm good for a year now

The only PCB's I want atm are : Flying shark and Amidar. Both nostalgic classics for me. Yes, I'm that old.

Since I buy my PCB's mostly from here, I don't usually get on the scoreboard unless the battery is dead.

I'm here just to see whats happening. I don't really have any shmup knowledge to shout about, but I Will strike with alarming force when I see a PCB I want. I'm a trading lurker with a semi-big wallet.

The main problem with this site is that its in groundhog day. The same topics come up again and again which is boring. If you delete them and link someone to the old threads, the site dies through lack of usage. So what is one to do? I do appreciate the die hards putting together fan stuff. Its a shame the model kits, fan music and other fan based material comes from other sources and is just linked here. Its a shame shmups.com is not THE place to come for shmups related merchandise. I personally would like the site to explore possibilities. If you remember neo-geo.com, shaun sold tons of SNK merchandise. I Believe for shmups.com to have the same effect, it should start sourcing Cave PCB's so you can buy them here directly. It should have a trading core so that its readers don't need to go elsewhere.

Anyway, end of rant. Shmups.com could be more, much more.

He´s been posting on Cave-STG.com recently.

Also, people are giving up on shmups to play WORLD OF WARCRAFT? Changing sides pretty quickly, eh?

Theres me thinking that WOW had its day since the new add on pack is a bit lame. I played up to level 59 with a druid and I just decided to pack it in. all the time I was playing wow I pretty much did fuck all else. At least with shmups its 30 mins of fun (if your good) and then you can take a break.

with WOW your lucky to sit around for 3 hours and actually accomplish anything.

Other than Shmups are just cool IMO, I think this is the very reason I have latched onto shmups as my game of choice.

I just dont have the time to spend with long, drawn out games that take hours to play.

I need instant gratification ( or frustration ) from my games so I can move on to the next life consuming responsibility that I have & have not chosen to fill my days & nights with...

I had Flying Shark on my for sale list for ages... 6 months easily. Someone recently nabbed it though.

From what I see it's the result of taking score playing too seriously in which the only end result is to play games where millions actively pretend the true skill matters: time spent without using your brain.

I'll never understand the attraction when you still have 2d platformers, puzzle games, fighting games, or rythm games.

Anyway, isn't that similar to what happened to you, Twiddle? I was waiting with bated breath for the next installment of your RFJ ST, but I realized it probably isn't coming.

I think taking scoreplay too seriously is extremely dangerous for all except the most masochistic. Just look at Danmakugata.

Just like everything else in life, you should do everything in moderation. Being too overly ambitious can burn you out pretty quickly. I´ve read about people doing speedruns for their favourite games and hating them afterwards. :? As much as some people mock the "I don´t play for score, I play for fun"-attitude, when you just keep on playing to make numbers go up while not really enjoying it anymore, gaming becomes pointless.

I pretty much killed Batrider for me because I played it too hard (while only reaching pretty meager scores), and now I can´t stand playing it for score anymore. Still a good game, but that´s a lesson for me

Regarding click-stick's whereabouts: Brian now works as a hippie building his own makeshift house out of earthen wares and spends his time making films and doing photography.

As for why this means he doesn't play shooters anymore, my guess is he got a gf along the way, realized 'fuck these corny games' and abandoned ship.
