I just merged in the posts above (starting here) from another King of Kong thread that was starting to feel pretty similar (and it was getting pretty interesting - best to have it all in one place. You all know I'm completely new to modding here. I've followed protocol, but I'll also be checking with my fellow mods that I got this correct.

On topic:
antares wrote:So you shouldn't see this as a reliable documentary.
Good point. It does seem to demonise Mitchell. It's clearly a biased documentary, but that in itself is a reasonable model to follow for a documentary maker. But it would be good to see an entirely neutral, observational version of this story.

My wife's done a bit of documentary work, and while she loved KoK, to her it was immediately obvious the editing was implemented to present things out of context.

Argueably though, perhaps Mitchell made the accusations of fed lines only in responce to seeing how he came across. I guess we'll never know.

If nothing else, it's a great bit of entertainment, and if it captures anything accurately and without bias, it's the character, colour and enthusiasm that exists in such abundence in the arcade scene.

On the topic of video game documentaries, is there a good street fighter film? Certainly with all the tourneys going on right now, if there isn't a documentary there should be one soon.

There's one on Justin Wong, called King of Chinatown. Dunno if there's a way to see the whole thing yet, or if it's any good.

some trailer clips of bang the machine which looks awesome. i've never seen it because it's never been officially released due to problems with the music rights, but watching these clips of america's SF scene from 10 years ago just looks gold. alec told me there's one guy in it who's a rapper & he says at one point "i'll school you in the arcade, and then i'll school you on the beat" if you're into SF they sometimes air the whole thing at the Evo championships in vegas

I can't believe I didn't spot that! Maybe I'm just such a natural at gross innuendo I don't even have to think about it.

Points go to you though Taylor - it's rare anybody beats Gaijin Punch to spotting a nob gag!

This movie is awesome. It may be biased in some ways and what not, but it had a really satisfying ending. Also reinforced why I love the games I love and how much effort and practice they take to succeed at.

Fuck modern gaming for destroying awesomeness.

The King of Chinatown trailer shows you just how big the Fighting game scene is and how niche & tiny the shoot'em up scene is.
I met Justin Wong when he came over to the BOD Comp a couple of Summer's ago. Gave him a lift back to his Hotel. The guy is a FIEND for the women  ! A but surprising but there ya go. Triforce also came over with his Glove. Daigo also came over before that for the comp at London's Trocadero arcade.

I don't think its awesome in any way. Its a pretty good doc about the TG Fraternity.

I have heard this before several times, although I didn't notice anything particular on the day (at BOD). He seemed a little happy to have so much attention (in that peeps from the UK fighting scene actually knew who he was) but I didn't see him leching out.
Care to share what happened on your hotel journey mate, was he calling to gals off the sidewalk with the window rolled down? :)

Also, are we going to see you for Christmas DEL?

Ah yes, you were at BOD also 8)
He was attacking girls at the Chez McDs. Its like his gaming fame had imbued him with unblockable confidence. He was parrying girls at the counter with ease. Yoga Flamed a couple on the street after that.

RE: Christmas - Unfortunately not. Its Meet The Parents time in Czechland. Sometime in the New Year though. I'd better get a quick visit in before we all get OFF'D in 2012  :!:

Todd's #1 high score for Fathom: 1,110,500

How scoring works in Fathom: It's a bit like how life works in Gauntlet. It counts down, and picking up one thingy gives 10 points. Run out of points, game over. Complete the game, and you have a score. Picking up the hundreds of thousands of thingies it would take to get that score while combating the point entropy would take months.

#2 score for Fathom: 142

There were dozens of other ones more impossible than that.

Why was scrutiny of his Dragster score, of all things, the thing to finally bring him down?

It's also really sad he's still professing his innocence. This takes compulsive lying to the max - how desperate is this guy for attention and affection?

For the record, the Donkey Kong RNG is entirely based on vacant cycles after each frame, so even the slightest variation in input can affect events drastically, and it would be very easy to reload a savestate until you get the RNG you need

It's not exactly evidence as such, but paired with the actual unquestionable evidence of the recording being MAME, despite claims of it being PCB, it definitely results in a situation that smells fishy.

We are less than ten days away from the decision. (Man this has already been way too long)

I'm nervous about this one. Jace Hall has the OG tapes and has been "analizing" them. What if he has malicious intent and decides to falsificate them or something? Hope he does the right thing... as there is 100% irrefutable proof that MAME was used.

Could end up that the VHS tape doesn't show the kind of evidence the direct feed did. Which is why relying on VHS tapes is pretty stupid.

I think I should also point out that even if his score is legit, it'd still barely be in the top 10 anymore.
