Iwanaga

What do you get when you cross Alien Soldier with a liitle bit of Cave style bullet hell, throw in a Cabal style crosshair and dress the whole thing with Guwange style atmosphere?
IWANAGA by Buster! Definitely worth checking out.

@Damocles

Have you really played it longer than a couple of seconds?
The whole play mechanics (weapon switching, bullet blocking, dashing) are basically Alien Soldier all over the place. Abuse was 360-degree mouse controlled run and gun. Day and Night.

I really like the color scheme. Looks solid graphics wise. I'm going to check it out later. :)

No, this game is not Space Invaders.

I wish I could play with a pad. This game is awesome, and I don't mean by homebrew standards. It plays great and the graphics put a lot of commercial games to shame.

I played this a couple of times since it hit the web but I'm still puzzled by the scoring/ powering up system. Seems you have to switch weapons constantly in order to balance the amount of orange and blue powerup cubes. If you balance it right the cubes you receive after blowing up an enemy get bigger which is vital to life energy and time limit.
Anybody out there who has more info? I'm really slow in learning score mechanisms in Japanese shooters/run'nguns :wink:

Guess everybody figured out the scoring/ powering up mechanism by now. There's a quite impressive run through hard mode (split in four parts) on you tube that should prove how good this game is.

Funny, I have the feeling that if this would have been released on the Genesis/MD in 95 with the Treasure logo on it many people would hail it today as a classic...

I like this game quite a bit. In fact, I think I'll make a video of it and put it up on youtube!

Glad to see that people enjoy the game. I think it really deserves some attention. Finished it on easy today and working on normal now. I wish it had a pause button...
@MrMonkeyMan
So you're not the guy who uploaded the hard-mode run on youtube? Think his nick is mrmonkeymans. Kinda confusing :lol:

No, no. It is me. I was just joking around. Notice I've also got some of my Ketsui videos up there and some other junk.

Ah, OK. Nice run, helped me to understand how to play it properly, thanks for uploading. Damn, I really wish this thing had a pause button...had to stop a couple of runs because the phone was ringing :)

To me something weird happened. I started to play, then the screen darkened slowly and faded out, right into the menu. Wow, great game!

@Fu
Is it a DirectX error? Are you using Vista?
If so, try running it in XP compatibility mode.

@eight
Something similar happened to me also. Game started, then faded to black, right into the ending. Reconfigured my pad and now it's gone...probably a bug or something.

Yes it's a DirectX error, like if he says that I need DirectX 5 at least. I have the latest and I use XP (Media Center).

If you look at the site, there are two other games. Saru is just a little tech demo-ish thing that probably isn't worth your time, but Vacant Ark is awesome just like Iwanaga. It's my favorite doujin game that for some reason nobody has seemed to play.

This game is just ridiculous. I did give it a test run however, so I can't say much but... wow. It is EXACTLY that mesh, crosshair included. Hang on, can you control the crosshair with the mouse?

No, you can't...and you don't have to. It's not "Abuse".
The trick is to know where to position the crosshair right before you have to use it. It has a nice frantic flow if you can get into it :)
