Side scrolling beat 'em up: any good resource?

Post by stratos »

I'm searching for good communities about the side scrolling beat 'em up gaming genere; I'm speaking about games like Final Fight, Violent Storm ecc. ecc.

Do you know any??

I don't know of any beat 'em up based boards, but you could join the other hardcore forums and there will doubtlessly be some fans of the genre.

I knew it... it's not what I had in mind...

Thanks however, if I find something I'll update the thread.

Hello? What are YOU talking about?

DEL is talking about this:

@DEL

I only got to play it for a really short time. I'm not such a big fan of pre-rendered graphics, but gameplay seemed decent. Overall I'd say the Brezza system is more of a novelty item though, for arcade collectors to get excited about, than a must-play. Sengoku 3 is better IMO.

There's a review here, but keep in mind that he gives just about every game he owns an A+

Oh, sorry, pheraphs my sentence "what are you talkin about" was intended as offensive. I didn't want to offend Derek :)

I was searching for resources (like communities, forum) about sidescrollers, not games, so when Derek spoke about a game I didn't understand at first, so I said: "what are you talkin about" but I wanted to say "What??? Is it a website or a forum or a virtual archive??"

Hope you will understand, I'm Italian and often don't understand English language perfecly :)

Returning on topic, unfortunately I searched the web for any resource but I only found forums or sites about 1on1 beat'emups :(

However, if I find something, I'll post here :)

Nothing really in English... but there are all these sites..

http://www.dd2world.com/ - Insanely high quality fan site completely dedicated to Shadow Over Mystara (Chinese)

http://www.igs-pgm.com/ - Side dedicated to all games created by IGS, most of which are beat-em-ups (French)

http://www.ric.hi-ho.ne.jp/wizard/index.html - Another site dedicated to all IGS games (Japanese)

http://www.geocities.co.jp/Playtown-Par ... nfight.htm - A complete strategy guide for Arabian Fight!!!!! ...Site also has a guide for Warrior Blade......but the main attraction here is Arabian Fight damnit!! I cant believe people managed to 1 credit this broken mess of a game. (Japanese)

http://bbs.myifc.org/ - Biggest forum for discussion of all IGS games (Chinese)

http://www4.plala.or.jp/to-u/index.html - Heaps of info and stuff on Capcom beat-em-ups (Japanese)

There was another Japanese site which has unfortunately closed down that featured guides and superplays for stuff like Undercover Cops and Knuckle Bash (yes, its actually possible to 1 credit Knuckle Bash) damn I will miss that site.

And now I will attach a picture of Lightbringer because I feel like it, and because I think its a game more people need to play.

@sven & CIT - Thanks again for the headz up on that game.
I seem to remember an arcade game called something like "The Puppet Master" from 1990'ish, which had claymation style characters (but it was a 1 on 1 Fighter).

@stratos - Sorry, I sometimes forget the language barrier  , my Italian is non-existant after all.

Thanks to Macaw for the resources.

No no :) , you're from Napoli, so you're obviously connected, so it should definitely be me who apologizes

Actually I can 1CC it rather easily myself.. I've never made a recording of it in mame though because my high scores are nothing compared to the Japanese ones (I have no idea how they get those scores, there must be some kind of exploit in the game)

Ehehehehehe

Ah, in Naples we haven't Mafia (one "F" only) but have "Camorra". It's similar though... but keep in mind that they don't come every day to knock on your door asking money, it's a common tought ;)

I find this game rather difficult; I like to play with the mage, but I find difficult to manage the game even with the fighter... ok, I've been playing sidscroller seriously only from few weeks, and I'm busy also :)

For Japanese scores: where did you find them? And what are yours? Since there are in this game many paths and many hidden treasures, I assume Japanese champions know the best route and all the secrets...

All the characters are pretty well balanced, you just have to learn each of their own tactics for bosses. At this point I can only 1CC it with Ash.

This site has a compilation of all Japanese high scores from magazines http://www.aiva.emuita.it/gamest.php

The scores for Lightbringer there are all around 16 million. I know the best routes for each stage and the location of all the secrets and when I finish it I only have about 7-8 million. (I got all the secret locations from Japanese sites that had guides and maps of the game)

So I have no idea where these players are getting the other 8 million points from.

Wow, you know this game very well! It's a pity that the best sources for these games are in Japanese, but with Babelfish (and a lot of patience) it shoul'd be no problem...

Where did you find that? On the Jap sites you mentioned before?

Lol I always forget the exixtence of this ITALIAN site; I also know the webmaster, Gemant, that posts on AEX forum and also here :)

http://www7.ocn.ne.jp/~bacube/oldgame_p ... ger01.html

Both these sites have full strategy guides on the game (The first one also has maps)

There is also an English guide at www.gamefaqs.com but it misses a lot of secrets.
