Jumping Flash series?

Post by JBC »

I never got to play these, but i remember reading about them way back in Gamefan. I have a chance to own them now for next to nothing... but are they really worth playing? I like the premise of the game... and i've read around a bit on the net but i'd like some fellow shmup board member's opinions.

Yes they are worth owning. The series peaks with the sequel im my opinion but the original Jumping Flash is pretty solid too. The games are easy and the graphics haven't aged well at all but the games fun factor makes these flaws easy to overlook. By the way, stay away from the import only Robbit Mon Deu unless you become a rabid fan (even then you might want to stay away. )

Darn, i was hoping the import only one would be pretty good. What was broken with it? I saw some screenshots and it looked like the graphics got uglier and i didn't see the regular cool looking little rabbit bot from the first two in them but then i only saw a couple snaps.

I actually hunted these down after playing a (kinda bland) shmup called Rabio Lepus in Mame the other day.

I only have Jumping Flash 2, but I really liked it when I played it.
It feels like a 3D platformer stuck in an FPS...and I know that sounds retarded, because that's what FPSes are, but you'll get what I mean when you play it.

Jumping flash is absolutely cool. You might want to buy Jumping Flash! 2 NTSC/J, because it's a double box and there's Jumping Flash! 1 in ENGLISH on the second CD. It's like the japs think that english games are very exotic and if you buy it you'll have both games at the price of one.
It was worth every pence, even if I already owned the first Jumping Flash.
The game is fun, difficult and has great music to boot :D
Alas, Ikaruga is going...

Undesired, unwanted them...
What makes them go?

Actually, I think they included the western edition of JF1 not because of english localization, but because it offered a consistent bulk of improvements, like better fram rate and extra stuff. I might have to read the old magazines to confirm this though...

For Turrican,

Man, you are sure on a mean streak today, correcto mundo on dinero!...tis true that the Japanese PSX "Jumping Flash 2" game does have the bonus USA ver. of Jumping Flash 1 disc -- such improvements were made on the USA version, hence the release of it with JPN PSX JF-2 game..... ^_~

I played both versions (I have both) and well - it didn't look all that different to me. But many years have passed and I tend to get dumber with age.
I would love to know what did they change. Anyhow I have been told that (some of) the japanese find the english version of their games very fascinating, and there's an underground movement-thing that buy japanese games in their american version - rather than in the original japanese version - because it sounds and reads cool. It is not the case of FFVII International - because the US version was way better and more complete - but for example some japs went nuts for FFX Int - not so different from FFX J.
Yes the world is a huge mess.

I got the first two and so far they're pretty fun. I was hoping the physics would be a little better and the textures a little flatter, as that always looked best on early 3d titles. I'm also disappointed to find out there is no way to switch to a third person mode (:( Wanna see the bunny) but all in all they seem really fun.

I like the level layouts and searching out all the items and secret level hoops. It's been awhile since i played anything like this.

Jumping flash needs a revamp.. Its such a cool simple little game. I got right to the end on one life last time I played it, but died 8 times in a row on the last boss

I liked jf1 the best, jf2 was technically better but didn't offer anything new.

Robbit mon dieu is more an RPG of the franchise, is Japanese only and has tons of sub missions and maps and such that its hard to work out what to do. I'd steer clear of it unless you know Japanese.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

But the first-person perspective is the best part! :D

I loved seeing his bunny feet.
