nice.... have you played the saturn version also?
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Embarrassed to say I've never owned a Saturn, so no, but have seen youtube videos of the console remake, which does look quite awesome.

Nearly as good on the PCB too - the test menu has a music test with vu meters.

It's a good game.... overall I prefer the remixed mode though.

Another bumper bundle of crap. Paid a lot for this due to the working Rainbow Islands, which of course turned out to have a couple of small faults when I got it home. Luckily I was able to fix it, but I'm pretty annoyed about that.. Fixing Final Star Force and R-Type already was a bit of a bonus, most of the bootlegs will be used for parts and then chucked in the bin.

Final Fight (boot) - Dead
The Punisher (boot) - Dead
Captain Commando (boot) - No sprites
Pac-Land - Dead (custom broken clean in half)
Rainbow Islands - Works
Super Formula - Dead
Wardner No Mori - CRAM ERROR
DJ Boy - I/O custom broken
Pinball Action - Dead
Drift Out '94 (The Hard Order) - Repaired
Toki (boot) - Plays semi-blind, no sync
R-Type - Repaired
Legend Of Hero Tomna - Dead
Squash - Repaired
Mortal Kombat (boot) - Dead
Cycle Warriors - Heat related inputs issue
Final Star Force - Repaired
Captain America - Sprites all over the screen
Vapor Trail - Repaired
Time Soldier - Main sprites jailbarred
Mortal Kombat (boot) - Dead
Tetris (16A) - Dead
Great 1000 Mile Rally - Repaired
Taito Cup Finals - Dead
Tetris (16A) - Dead (suspected suicide)
Pang - Repaired
? - Dead
Bomb Jack (boot) - Repaired
Major Title - Repaired
US Masters - No sound
Golfing Greats - Sample ROM cracked in half - 27C800 probably
Golfing Greats - Works
Squash - Works
Flying Shark - Dead
Shinobi (boot) - Repaired

Bought a board from some guy, had an issue with it, mentioned I could fix it and he said he had a load more to get rid of. Ex operator so even the ones with 'good' written on them were faulty in some way.

Another hidden gem came in. The ship speed, and charge weapons are almost identical to dangun feveron, yet produced 6 years earlier. Its only fault is you can't turn off continues, and score doesn't reset when you continue, making the highscore table a joke. Otherwise tough as nails with no bombs, and hugely long stages.

I'd never seen that screen w/ Visco on it. I'd always known it as a Taito game. It's also not the only time Visco used Taito hardware (they also did some racing game back then).

Is it fun at all or just hard?

I'm not sure if the developers ment for players to max out their speed, or avoid the speedups after a certain point, but I'm finding it very fun/addictive to play at this frantic pace, and actually made it to stage 3, which I never would have thought possible when I was play testing it in mame.

BTW: Nice score on the F3 Twin Qix prototype board! That is a huge monster at 3 layers.

You should've seen the original Defender boardset I just got. I unpacked the box and it took up half the living room.

Yeah, those things are huge if you mount all the PCB's side-by-side :D

I think the true champion of most square footage of PCB for one game is Gorf / Wizard of Wor:

Carrier Airwing and Major Title arrived today.

Both untested, MT just worked, CA was dead, with a giant gouge under the PCB which nearly broke the surface of the other side...

It's repaired now, I kind of feel sorry for it, not only did all that damage need fixing but someone had bent a pin in the board interconnect, which sent +5v to the sample chip and cooked it. I had to solder one back on by hand, and one of the tracks broke during removal of the old one. Yuck. Still, it was really cheap and it works fine now.

Terra Force. Poor thing isn't getting any love though, with 360 Futari turning up.

Hang on... I'm saying "poor thing" about a PCB, and bloodflowers is feeling sorry for one! We're personifying circuit boards. Oh dear...

I played this one a bit recently. Scoring seems to revolve around just getting those bonus dudes on the ground and then hoping you don't get toasted by the boss which eventually comes up (I haven't managed to beat it yet). Edit: Actually, just beat that thing in one attempt, 55,825 points (highscore is 93K though). Interesting how it puts the highscore on the left instead of the right.

It arrived a week ago, finally made a loom for it yesterday which took 3 hours, maybe longer - what a monster:

I think I'll try to find a Battle Wings and Liberation next, they use the same pinout I think (BW certainly does). After all that effort I want to put the loom to good use ;)

Joe and Mac Returns turned up late last night. Pretty awesome.

the Mrs tells me another set of boards turned up this morning, so i'm guessing it's Ultra Balloon tonight.

Yeah, this is a gem! I'm lacking the original P-47 and original Thunder Dragon, but not sure if those are worth getting at this point. Other than that, the ever elusive Rapid Hero would complete my NMK collection.
