For people like you there're still CRTs + Groovymame, anyway.orange808 wrote:I can't use VRR with a Sony OLED rolling scan pro monitor. So, what's the point? Taking away rolling scan doesn't fix things. You're robbing Peter to pay Paul.
VRR isn't a solution for emulation.
You're stuck with VRR persistence blur; that is wrong and will always be wrong. It smears and looks wrong. Find an arcade and play your favorite games. The motion doesn't smear. Doesn't matter if persistence blur not "really blur". I see blur. Everyone sees blur.
Blur sucks. VRR guarantees we will never be able to fight motion blur at 50-60Hz. (They already tried a VRR and BFI monitor. It was awful at 60Hz.)

Lol trainwreck thread, went off-topic also (blitter delay and motion). Well I have some well-deserved spicy replies for Gus and Banan whose hypocrisy reaches max levels but that'd be expected knowing their mob, yet since a mod basically said don't and where this thread's going being pretty obvious, ima just drop it.
EDIT; but answering this alright even if OT now but for the sake of things.
bar motion, of course I agree.
but crt-like motion is not compulsory if easy proper emulation for playing is what one seeks.
Then for those who want it all there is indeed GroovyMAME on a CRT.
And it is also actually possible to get VRR from Groovy on a number of LCDs that aren't VRR-'branded'.
PS: problem is telling people something is no good/sucks because something else better/ideal doesn't exist (yet or never) isn't good, it's discourging ppl from considering an available option that'd make their gaming experience actually superior.
Or saying stuff like 'VRR persistence blur' which doesn't exist, you know many ppl read that literally and that'll stick and they'll repeat it.
You know a kind of logic for instance BlurBusters produce is 'a better tech/experience should exist and is in theory possible' makes followers diss things that exist and they could have now, and not hope but actually wait for things that don't happen, for reasons they don't want to hear about.

Bro, you know VRR literally solves everything gameplay and accuracy-wise, no compromise and no additional cpu/gpu load, that's by far the best solution for emulation by all obvious means and a lanslide.orange808 wrote:I can't use VRR with a Sony OLED rolling scan pro monitor. Of course, but not in this context.

it's not "too expensive" or "too hard to set up", people simply don't give a rat's ass about your "accurate emulation" that doesn't improve gameplay in any way yet you keep imposing it on people for no reason and when people tell you the benefits don't outweigh the costs for them, you attack them for no reason and ruin every thread with it
Absolutely seething.WelshMegalodon wrote: If he wants to actually be known as a lag specialist guy instead of some mediocre influencer wannabe with a webcam and an awful voice, he should make sure he knows what he is talking about when discussing GroovyMAME, especially since GroovyMAME is where this low latency feature came from in the first place.

Re: MAME 0.216 -lowlatency flag
You posted that for what purpose ? showing your support to ignorant imbeciles in 4chan/shmupg fashion ? is that a rite of passage or confirmation ? like "go trigger Xyga on the farm with some 4shites crap to prove you're our man" ?
*clap clap clap* congratulations Lags, that makes you part of the snarky dumbasses fascist schoolyard gang.
It's too bad that /shmupg/ isn't a thing anymore, at least idiots like you and them had their own place. Instead these days they have invested back various discords and this forum again, because shit-for-brains people believe they have a sacred mision to invest each and every corner of the internet so decent ones can't breathe anymore, no one shall escape the school gang rule, it's part of The Plan, right ?
Oh the misery. The worst part of all this is the hypocrisy, because of course accuracy matters to them, but they're a bunch with extremely inflated egos and proud to toxic levels, who can't bear that anyone tells them about anything they'd have wrong, not even help is accepted and met only with disdain because it's seen as a challenge to their credibility in front of the rest of the gang, where internet popularity matters more than science and facts. Hubris fucking stinks, but it's everything to them.

Motion clarity and VRR for 60Hz content probably never will happen. So, I definitely wouldn't encourage anybody to wait for it. Adopting VRR comes with permanent shortcomings that aren't going away any time soon.Xyga wrote: PS: problem is telling people something is no good/sucks because something else better/ideal doesn't exist (yet or never) isn't good, it's discourging ppl from considering an available option that'd make their gaming experience actually superior.

You're right about the advantages, but I don't like the idea of saying "it's good enough" and calling it a day. Lots of people are doing that.
VRR isn't a final destination or solution. It's a quick and dirty hack.
The only method I know of to get proper motion resolution with ~50-60Hz content is a rolling scanout. I understand that display manufacturers have zero interest in producing what I want, but that doesn't change anything. It might not help, anyway, because we almost always have to wrestle with the OS layer and video drivers. Everyone seems determined to make sure we can't get the native refresh rate.
I appreciate the option to use VRR and it's better than nothing. On the other hand, software emulation has no hope of reaching it's true potential when relying on a hack that sentences us to persistence blur.
This is how inferior emulators running on MiSTer get hyped up from here to kingdom come. That platform has the native refresh rate. Maybe software emulation really is doomed.
