Sega IP you would wish to comeback

Post by KimagureMachibuse »

What Sega Ip would you like to return?

I would really like NiGHTS to return for a 3rd game or a re-imagining of NiGHTS Into Dreams that could completley recreate the visuals and its soundtrack as the game had a remake back in 2008. i am a huge fan of its dream world setting and its music easily complements its visuals and art direction. plus there really are no other games that has the kind of gameplay of NiGHTS Into Dreams with its gameplay and its dream setting is somewhat hardly done in gaming aside from games like Klonoa kirby cocoron and Little Nemo

It came out last year, Balan Wonderworld. 8)
I quite enjoyed what I played of Balan, a couple dozen hours with it I think. Been meaning to get back to it, it was a refreshing and relaxing game to play, but I eventually was put off from having so many characters to choose from and manage.
It doesn't have much of the flying/racing type gameplay of NiGHTS, but there is some flying and linking going on in some levels, and Balan certainly delivers a dream-like world.
It's a shame Balan got such bad reviews, I think it is a beautiful game and fine culmination of Yuki Naka's design sensibilities. The game gave me impressions of Billy Hatcher, NiGHTS, and dare I say a touch of Burning Rangers.
Here's a positive review (and comments) that matches up with my experience.

As for what Sega IP I'd I like to come back, nothing specific came to mind at first. All of them? After thinking on it, I want to see a Super Shinobi III.
Edit oh yeah, a proper Phantasy Star V

Just give us Virtua Racing and a Model 2 & 3 collection please. And Outrun 3, obvs. I love Sega games but they really boil my piss with their stupid decisions. Oh look, here's yet another fucking collection of the same Mega Drive shit that used to clog the game shops up on trade-in BITD... Jebus fucking wept.

edit- and, right, they had a perfect opportunity to redo (or even just port the original like they did with Daytona and VF2) Sega Rally for the 360/PS3 but didn't. And why is Afterburner Climax still stuck on that gen? On the bright side it plays well in Xenia and RPCS3 so it's still playable if you want to.

On Unreal 5.
You're sure to be in a fine haze about now, but don't think too hard about all of this. Just go out and kill a few beasts. It's for your own good. You know, it's just what hunters do! You'll get used to it.

Too many to list. For one thing, I want After Burner Climax to be re-released on modern consoles, and I also want a console port of Planet Harriers...

They are LATE at this point. Leaving money on the table.

I would prefer to see it go back to the JSR era of kinda funky late 90’s/70’s aesthetic with a focus on combo grind lines rather than button timing presses of JSRF.

I think if they incorporated rival gangs constantly spraying over your art, it would open up simultaneous spray and trick combos for good trick lines.

And bring Tab back. Corn lacked the beastie boys look of Tab.

I would buy the game just to listen to its modern Neopop house grunge soundtrack personally. Those tracks were fire in both titles.

Not sure how this hasn't gotten a cease and desist but it's the only new thing in the JSR world we will probably ever get.

At this point, I'd be happy with either approach, but I think both the original JSR and JSRF have merits of their own, and I would love a game that's able to combine the best of both.

I have seen it before, and I'm cautiously optimistic about it. It looks like enough of a carbon copy that it's probably gonna be hard for it to fail, but then again it's not really the mechanics that made the original games what they were.

I don't care too hard unless there's a release date and a console version though :)

edit: Nevermind, seems it was confirmed for switch

I'm not 100% certain who owns the rights, but I'd love to see another Otogi game. The first two were made by From Software and published by Sega on the original Xbox, and did some pretty cool stuff with the hardware available at the time.

Crazy Taxi. Vanquish 2 (not that Platinum has the bandwidth to work on that shit). Shining Force (although this franchise is ruined forever).

Sega GT. Seems they gave up and let Forza take its place, not happy about that. 2002 is a pretty darned good game.

I would also like for some crazies at Sega to do, very specifically, a new Out Run and a new Hang-On, that are actually a single game using the same engine and all.

OutRunners /3
Planet Harriers port
Sega Rally

I really just want them to stop porting the same old shit, and get their later stuff on consoles.

Whoa. No reason they couldn't do this either. We can dream right?

Shining Force is... as dead as it could possibly be. The word "Shining" is slapped on some of their games and they have a hentai artist on designs now, but they aren't Shining Force games.

There was a mobile game announced a while back, but unlike the random Fate Grand Order clone they slapped the Phantasy Star name onto, this trailer looked like a perfectly fine nostalgia-bait Shining Force game. Since it was by a Korean company instead of SEGA, there was like a 40% chance it'd have been fun for a week instead of 0%.

This game was cancelled a couple months ago. Yay.

Like with Mother and Oddity, it's just one of those franchises we'll have to make for ourselves.

It's kinda sad how Camelot have been stuck just making Mario Golf games for decades now. I'd love to see them make a follow-up to Shining Force even if it has a different name.

Not an obvious one: But why the hell did Sega abandon Virtua Tennis?

With a deep career mode and online multi-player (just like NBA 2k, plus, you could microtransaction the HELL out of it) they could basically print money.

Also, if you didn't see it, about six to eight months ago Sega announced they were developing Jet Set and Crazy Taxi as MMOs. Which seems strange, until you look at what they've been doing with Phantasy Star Online, then it makes perfect sense. Both Jet and Taxi utilize big, open areas. And both can be used to sell TONS of cosmetics (and both can run on the current PSO engine)
