There are, unfortunately, crazy people and assholes on all sides of every political movement. There are also political chameleon shitposters who deliberately say inflammatory shit (whether left or right) because they want to stir up drama and (sometimes) incite violence. They think they are the Joker, but in reality they are just lame shitposters too cowardly to get their hands dirty. They think that when the "day of the rope" or "great antifascist uprising" comes to pass, that they will be the ones on top. More likely, they will end up against a wall for refusing to toady to whichever warlord actually wins. That's assuming their homosexual IRL psyop even works, which it won't.

"Everyone who doesn't believe what I believe should be murdered/put in camps" is a distressingly common opinion to find on social media nowadays. But I attribute much of that to shitposters posting shit.

Many of the problems in our society could be alleviated if those with power had any inclination to alleviate them. But they do not. Those who genuinely want to improve things have no power. Those who have power want the situation to stay as it is. Which is why our health care in america is so fucked up and will not be fixed. So then those without power choose to fight amongst themselves along social lines. Because hey, they can't do anything about their problems. So they might as well blame the "others." The poor white trash and the poor ghetto dwellers will blame each other because it's easier than blaming insurance companies.

Cue George Carlin's speech about the real owners of america, is what I'm saying. We all disagree to some extent about how to improve things. But there are some issues where both left and right ordinary people could agree (and would agree) that the situation is untenable and must be improved. That said, those on BOTH sides who have the power are the ones standing in the way. Corporatism is the disease and slapfighting online is just a symptom.

No.

History says that you are looking at raw, naked, and honest human nature. Nothing dishonest or manufactured there. People do believe that on some level; even people that don't necessarily "believe" still understand the urge; that's why they post hot takes on Twitter and get themselves fired. One of many roots of corruption and another reason why people are dangerous--and not to be trusted.

It's always been this way. You're virtually identical to every other homo sapien that has walked this planet--and equally cruel and dangerous. We all are. That's why we need society in the first place, because people are selfish and cruel creatures by nature. Every single last one of us.

Some will realize their dangerous potential and get invested. Others may need to be forced into line. So be it. Sure beats the honor system, given that honor doesn't exist. Nobody is perfect.

As noted in the comments, when you hear there's no paycheck, you walk. There's some ways to get exposure without signing away any rights. There are a lot of people that are desperate for assets that will agree to leave the rights to your work in your hands. Can also do work under a pseudonym if you don't want your name on someone's game or video project; we all know the song: the internet is for p__n.

As a guy who once had a small synth collection and knows how much decent recording gear costs, I can understand how nobody SoundCloud-tier lo fi artists could get wrapped up in a scam like that. This was a guy with a New York Times gig and a book deal pushing an environmental ethics story, he would have seemed like someone with way too much to lose to pull something like this. Meanwhile from the sound of things, many of these people weren’t professionals making money off their music. It wasn’t like this was disrupting some other payday for them. Walking away from the validation wouldn’t have been the attractive option.

I'm already invested in a dated and expensive Cubase setup that works for me, but I've noticed that good "gear" is cheaper than ever. I just use an old machine and it stays off the internet. I have zero desire to juggle MIDI or manage latency on a new machine or learn a new program right now.

With that said, soft synths and plug ins have become so common, I can't keep up--and it doesn't even make sense to write anything using real gear at all. Plug ins are outputting raw midi now. Usually better to pound out ideas using soft synths and play it back on real gear later. I'm starting to wonder if it even makes sense to keep maintenaning my synths long term. We may have already passed the point where I'm a dinosaur clinging to my old gear.

I also looked over some free programs last year and I was pleasantly surprised. I was a little annoyed at the way they tried to cram all kinds of prefab loops down my throat, though. Apparently, anyone can make music now. It's almost copy and paste. I can see why there's such a glut of stuff out there.

With that said, I also rather like all the "jam box" options available these days. It has merit. Inspiration has never been easier to find. Motivation and time are another thing entirely, though...

People have been making EDM with loops & sample packs for years now, since Garage Band & Ableton became things in the early 00s. I think Afrojack's whole career was based on loops other people made.

But at the same time, just like how emulation made people want "the real thing" and track down retro games en masse, softsynths have made music creation super accessible, increasing the number of people who want real hardware. Vintage synths have gone through the roof, costing as much as cars now. Stuff like the Model D has quadrupled in price the past decade, running $10-18k for a simple synth that has been successfully reproduced through Moog's own iPad app for years now.

The guy in this video is exhibit A - he's sitting in front of $20 000 in modular Eurorack gear. That market didn't even exist 15 years ago, modulars were just an outdated and completely impractical relic of the 1970s. Now there's thousands of modules out there and even the Rolands of the world are producing them. Deadmau5 started on Fruity Loops and made tons of money off it, but when the cash started rolling in he bought walls of modular so he could spend 6 hours making the Castlevania theme. Music has always had a theatrical element to it, and being someone with just a MacBook in front of you doesn't fit the bill. It's why DJs bring mixers on stage twisting knobs pretending they're making the music happen.

On one hand, it's good that they caught the bastard.

On the other, he had an atrocious rap sheet, including vehicular assault, and should never have been on the road that day.

Okay, so this is definitely Apocalypse: Gaiden, but still...I gotta think a Venn diagram of people believe the secret Vice President and subscribers of the website in this story have a lot of overlap.

My roommate, who is not yet American, says, "You realize there is only one country this the world this can happen in, right? They don't have this in Canadia, or anywhere in Europe. This is so stupid it can only happen here." He then goes on to explain that it is so ridiculous it could be an episode of Curb your Enthusiasm... The plot is, of course, that Jeff wants to knock off Suzy so he uses the website which Leon told him about. Etc. etc. He even did the impersonations. :)

Kyle's youtube videos where he shares his alternate reality fantasies where the Biden administration bends Manchin over on BBB are always a whimsical form of escapism. That would necessitate an actual desire to pass the bill though, and if they prosecuted Manchin's daughter they'd have to prosecute everyone else's crimes as well.

The "let's primary Biden from the left!" stuff is even more farcical. In 2024, it's Biden. After that it's Harris. If she wins, it's whoever her VP is. There's no political solution to getting out of this hole. Democrats will continue to successfully lose.

That's why all we have to talk about is trains. Hearing "we're fucked" and "in an alternate reality where we were not fucked, we would not be fucked" all the time is kind of a debbie downer.
