SP Review: Zippy the Circle 5-6-7 (PS4|5)

Post by Sturmvogel Prime »

The Videogame Via Crucis continues.
This time is once again, Zippy the Circle with Levels 5, 6, 7

Someone has to do the job of giving the "Trash Game Alert" with these reviews.

If Sunday Funday II existed, this is what would be like.

Looks like Breakthrough Gaming is speeding things up by giving us three stages instead of two. Well, the sooner the better, so let's start talking about Level 5. This time you take the role of Jarius who goes to rescue Zippy by crossing the river. The objective here is to reach the end of the stage as fast as possible while dodging the logs. While hitting a log doesn't kill you, clearing the level without touching them is required to obtain the medal (Trophy).

20,000 Leagues of Trash Gaming

Level 6 is another "Maze navigation" themed stage where you are on a submarine and the goal is to reach the bottom of the ocean and find the exit there. Zero strategy or difficulty is required in this or the next level. To get the medal you'll have to clear this level in less than 500 seconds.

Sewer is quite appropiate 'cos this game surely came from there.

The last level of this stage is the Sewer which at least puts some effort in problem solution in order to clear the level. How? By placing springs that you can push in order to reach much higher places and there's gonna be plenty of times you're gonna need them in this horizontal scroll maze. Again, you need to clear the level in 450 seconds to get the medal.

Despite the "challenge" factor of Level 7, there's zero strategy or difficulty curves in the game as there's no enemies or bosses to fight, is just plain navigation and exploration that rather than being a game for the Christian audience, this game looks more like it was made for people with zero self esteem. There's no way to lose, you'll always win wether you get the medal or not.

While the graphic aspect keeps the same 3D simplicity as if it was a Nintendo 64 tech demo, Level 6 utilizes the perspective effect for the submersion as the submarine reaches the bottom of the ocean, which is at least the most interesting part of the game. Level 7 feels like they've could done a little more on the blue brick surface. If they added a texture it would really help. Cutscenes are the same "Newgrounds Barf" of crudely drawn characters in a grey background, something that a flash animator would make at lunch and uses it to justify his day at the job. The music department is pretty much the same thing, except for the pseudo-country like tune of Level 5, the rest would be like repeating myself on my the Level 1 and 2 review.

ZIPPY'S CURIOSITIES
- Level 5 is the first time (by now) where the player plays with a different character than Zippy

Another Trash Game Sunday Awaits...

Zippy the Circle Level 5, Level 6, Level 7 is more of the same dull, unchallenging game that serves for a mediocre-pathetic excuse of serving you a few trophies for a buck at expense of disgracing your PlayStation 4/5 library. Sony should get their act together and block everything from Breakthrough Gaming from the PlayStation Store. They would do a big favor to the world and to me as a reviewer since that would be like if someone took that heavy cross made of trash games from my back.
I can only recommend it to people with self esteem problems.

If "Unbearable" could be described on a pic, then the Crying Lea would be a good answer.
