Breakthrough Gaming's Skateboarding (PS4 - PS5)

Post by Sturmvogel Prime »

Looks like we're finishing with this trash-game marathon.
Today's review: Breaktrough Gaming's Skateboarding, A.K.A. Breakthroug Gaming Presents: Skateboarding.

I call this trick the "Yoshah Jump" *Slams to the ground*

2D Skateboarding games are difficult to do since all the tricks and stunts require a full 3D environment to interact with all kinds of objects to perform the tricks. Early consoles tried to pull the 2D-2.5D trick with failed results, being Sanritsu Denki-LJN's Town & Country Surf Designs: Wood & Water Rage the worst of all the examples. But T&C is a Tony Scott-level masterpiece in comparison with Breakthrough Gaming's Skateboarding.

The objective of the game is to reach a high score in three Runs. Keep in mind, each run is also a life, so if you crash, you'll lose your run regardless if you were close to end it or not. That sounds screwed up already. To rack points you have to perform tricks while jumping by either pressing the jump button or using a ramp or slope and then move left or right to flip. While the triangular ramps are a short jump but they keep you in mid-air for a considerable time, the slopes launches you sky high, but you fall faster. On your first times you'll probably get around 3,000 to 4,000 points and the hardest trophy requires you to get 7,000. For any gamer, this means "I quit". But guess what?, You have to hold the R1 button to perform the Air Forward Flip to add more points, this is not mentioned anywhere in the game. Unless someone tells you how, your chances of getting the last trophy are less than zero.
Now that you know this little trick, the best chances to rack a good score is to have around 2,400 points or so on each level so you can get 7,100 in total.

Well done, now uninstall this game for good.

If gameplay was abysmally bad, then things go much worse when it comes to trophy unlocking. Unlike their previous games, including the horrible shmup Space 2 which had 12 trophies, Skateboarding only has 4. That's right, FOUR DAMNED TROPHIES for you, not even a Platinum to justify the pick. It's the same problem as the PS4 port of Star99, but at least Star99 was an good idea that failed miserably with some interesting characters. Breakthrough Gaming's Skateboarding is a failure on every aspect.

Graphics: I could say "Shall I laugh or cry?", because they are brain cancer levels of awfulness, ramps look like crappy pyramids and cardboxes, and the slopes look terrible. With the black and white theme involved like all of these games, there's zero life in this aspect of the game as it looks dull and dead. However, the game at least tries its best to make an effort on pulling street sport-inspired catchy beats throughout your stages as if it tries to be like Skate or Die and Tony Hawks Pro Skater series, this is mostly noticed in the Attract Mode, but when the beat begins to get intense it abruptly ends. It has the idea, but needs to work on it a little more. If I have to evaluate that it's an F- in gameplay and graphics, but a C+ in sound.

You can find fun in life everywhere, but not in this game.

While it's nice to know that God wants us to enjoy the life he gave us, why the game didn't mentioned that holding the R1 button makes the skater do the Air Forward Flip instead and leave the Bible stuff when the game's over?
You know the best way to enjoy the life God gave to us? Is by not buying trash games. Breakthrough Gaming's Skateboarding is nothing more than an exercise of blasphemy as it uses God and The Bible to release an extremely atrocious and sorriest excuse for a videogame. Even LJN and Wisdom Tree were far more playable than this.

LEA...HATES...YOU.

On the bright side, it's nice to see how things are finally sealed up and...
*"Please Seal it up" from Thunder Force V plays*

Sealed...Oh, no. *Checks the PlayStation Store*
*Watches with horror there's another Breakthrough Gaming title released: Breakthroug Gaming's Track*.
