Cuphead, new run'n'gun with old-timey art

Post by MommysBestGames »

The art in Cuphead looks really cool! I like the old-timey Popeye animation where everything has exaggerated eyes and the movement for everything is weirdly the same speed.
I mean I don't want it in *every game* but it's really neat to see it in a run'n'gun for something different. I feel like if this style has a name it's something like "wonderimation" some such.
Teaser trailer: http://youtu.be/v80_FwbAv_s
Made a giant arcade-adventure: Pig Eat Ball. Also made shmup with multi-ships: Shoot 1UP DX, Gunstacking game: Serious Sam Double D XXL, and more shooters.

I love this! I am definitely going to buy this game when it comes out!

...Then I saw that its only for Xbone and Steam. So much for that. :(

It looks nice. Can't tell much about it, with him just shooting two blue blobs. More footage!

I've been reading that it's going to be a boss rush style game with the fights inspired by Treasure/Konami.

Pic of shmup level from devs twitter.

I'm definitely picking this up for PC on release.

Finally found it...Fleischer Bros... that's the main style it pulls from.

That shmup shot was nice too.

Looks like a typical Rockman game (bosses only) with a very lavish coat of paint. I wish the mechanics could be as ambitious as the graphics.

been following it for the past year or so and I'm actually surprised it got coverage from e3. still excited nonetheless and probably in my top 10 most anticipated.

Looks nice, but the devs can't seem to make up their mind about what kind of game they wanna make.
They had me at "run 'n gun", lost me at "....with elements of fighters, shmups, ....."

I'm really excited for this. It sounds like they've set a pretty high bar for themselves.

Good to see it's coming along nicely. I just hope it has a solid structure to it. The devs were talking about things earlier like having an overworld and not being able to die. Nicely designed boss fights are kind of wasted to me, if the game structure isn't good at creating a sense of tension.

I wouldn't hold your breath hoping for that.

It's a western indie 2D game. It's going to suck.

Yeah, I'm cautiously optimistic for it. At the end of the day, the devs might need to pad out the game with stuff like overworlds or else people would inevitably complain that it's "too short".

Noitu Love 2, Super Cyborg, Bleed, Shovel Knight, Rogue Legacy, Oniken, Aces Wild, Volgarr The Viking, and They Bleed Pixels are all pretty excellent western indie 2d games.

What they've shown so far looks pretty nice. Just needs a decent game structure behind it.

I love it when consoles try to pretend a game is exclusive and that the PC doesn't exist.

Console owners don't care that the PC exists. Different world, that's why.

So - I finally saw these videos and while I love the style they're going for, even the youtube rendition of the focus and convergence problem (which is on purpose) screwed my eyes up. I could never play a game like that.

Aesthetically cool, especially since I love Fleischer cartoons, but yeah, curious to see if this pans out to be good game or simply pretty gimmick.
