Mikami's horror project is revealed.

http://www.the-magicbox.com/1304/game130419a.shtml

I'm guessing it'll be more action than Survival Horror. Looks kinda gory. Yikes.

The screenshots look great. Isn't this what everyone hoped RE5 would look like?

Really hope this works, single player and RE4 controls would be the dream.

Looks like Resident Evil mixed with Silent Hill.

Looking forward to it.

Hope there isn't an emphasis on the action. He's pretty much just worked on action oriented games since RE4, and due to that popularity I can't see him going back. The screenshot with the large group of beings in the background worries me. I miss proper survival horror.

Well, in my opinion RE kind of died after 4. 5 at least was fun enough, and tied up just about everything, but it wasn't "inspired". But that's because Mikami and Kamiya were gone.

So, hopefully this will fill that void. And that's not even considering how Silent Hill has sucked since after part 3.

It greatly worries me that this will be a cross-generation release. Can you think of a single game that launched simultaneously on PS2/Xbox and 360 that wasn't stunted and compromised on all platforms? So much money and effort will be expended porting the game to two more powerful and unfamiliar consoles, rather than working on the game design, while the need to make it run properly on the older hardware will hold everything back. It's a poor decision motivated by greed that will surely backfire in their faces.

The same goes for Bungie's Destiny.

Sorry man, my clumsiness, I meant RE6

(I rather enjoyed RE5 for the most part.)

It was fun, but that sense of running in place was there. The old ones (1, 2, and CV) didn't change much, but they upped the ante all the time. Each game became a bigger blockbuster experience. After 4, 5 was just "OK". And Shiva was a bad idea.

6 was god awful, and should be burnt. And it has that giraffe blowjob cover, which is probably gonna be some kind of internet legend at some point.

Like the live action trailer. Very 1996.

Looks like it has a nice Hellraiser/Jacobs Ladder vibe. Hardly original, but Resi 4 was one of my favourite Zelda games ever, so looking forward to this.

Don't worry about it. You can travel from the Milky Way to Andromeda and back 1500 times before the sun explodes.

Personally I hope he keeps a bit of "action" in it - much like 4 (not 5 or 6). The trouble with going for pure survival horror is that the game is only great the first time you play it. Once you know what's around he corner there's not much to play for.

I've just experienced this with ZombiU. Great the first time through but zero replayability or "fun". It's a really easy game.

I guess I'm hoping for a spooky shooting gallery where you have to watch your ammo, figure out diffferent ways to get through etc. No big action set pieces (or cricket bat...)

Err, no?

The Siren series, Fatal Frame III & IV and Amnesia: The Dark Descent to name a few, I'm sure there are more.

Rise from your grave!

Just been reading Polygon's hands-on with this, and saw the video preview while at work yesterday, and I'm super-excited now. Being a huge fan of the survival horror genre, this and Silent Hills have me looking forward to good things to come from the genre.

It's all looking great, except for the season pass.

http://www.bethblog.com/2014/08/13/seas ... il-within/

All this should be unlockable in the main game, not another £14.99...

...I'll be buying it though

didn't even realize there was a thread on here, but this has been one of my most anticipated games since it was revealed as project zwei. gameplay footage has been looking exactly in line with what I've been expecting.

the season pass announcement was pretty disappointing though. I typically don't buy into those kinds of things.

Actually the one game this year besides Souls 2 I've pretty ordered. Was pretty excited to hear about ReReMake as well, but those backdrops are gonna such if it's a simple upscale job.

I have a bit more of a "wait and see" on this, due to all the bad word of mouth it got a while back.

That being said, the things they didn't like, were stupid. Such as the character not reacting properly to the horrific stuff.
I mean, who cares?

Funny you mention that, speaking of game genres that seem to have petered out a bit - the character reactions are absolutely central to Eternal Darkness, and kind of work in Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth (Bethesda's buggy old PC/Xbox game). But most attempts to use such ideas have ended up hampering the gameplay. The only titles that come to mind that do the "it's all in your miiind, duuude" are Rumpel's Half-Life engine mods (Afraid of Monsters, Cry of Fear) and even those could stand some polishing-up.

In short I hope this is more RE4 and less ED (or even Max Payne, if you remember the nightmare sequences).

I'm only hoping that Capcom remembers their '90s classics (well, early '00s in this case) to maybe do something else with them someday. The free joystick control sounds potentially useful (it's down to whether turning speed is faster, and whether you can just hold the stick during screen transitions) but the backgrounds do look something awful.

There is a PT demo on the PS4 PSN.

Its some sort of interactive "nextgen Silent hill" demo using Metal Gear's engine. I've played it for about 3 hours and its very repetitive, but its spooky as all hell and very well done. Pity they never allowed a slightly more varied demo.

not that it had a lot of competition, but that's some pretty decent pr for it's upcoming release

I think Mikami wants to nail Capcom's coffin lid a bit more.

To think 10 years or so ago he was leading Capcom's charge.
