Anything from run & guns to modern RPGs, what else do you play?

Sorta decent, although a bit short (12-13 level-ish, but still quite fun IMHO)
How long does it take for a full playthrough?
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

2 or 3 hours, I think.

I'd say that's pretty darn long for a score-centric game. But I hope it's not meant to be played from start to finish and you can score attack the stages individually.

Each level has its own scoreboard, I think. Nor there's any option to play all levels in one run.

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier. Guerilla mode is a wave-based mode that keeps score. Even has a combo multiplier. Very odd in a game such as that.

Both Assault Rigs and Recoil seem to have scoring too.

Inago Rage

Found the demo on a certain games mag cover DVD. It's just as if somebody read this thread and came up with it. "Hard to describe" comes to mind first, but that isn't really the case. Controls like Tribes, but with WSAD and mouse only (unless I have yet to discover more usable buttons).
It verily ticks all the boxes that are. Even the graphics, sound and storytelling (what little is there) wouldn't be out of place in an actual arcade. It is self-explanatory, just the way a good arcade game should be. Last but not least, it doesn't try to look retro or doujin. Educational meterial.

By all means play the demo.
So spacebar does the same as the right mouse button. Perhaps other button double WSAD as well. Meanwhile, it is THE game that makes platforming not suck in FPP. Mechanically it may be no different from Tribes, but... you just wait 'till you get to climb the tower.

Not sure if that odd, considering the original Ghost Recon rates your performance after mission and you need those points there to buy upgrades.

Made by the infamous Dejobaan, if I recall. The full version seems to have a level editor.

From the same guys, more or less its spiritual successor with emphasis on robot boss you can create and fight, think of Fraxy.

It's true that their main focus appears to be making a level editor everybody can use, but they still had to put game in there and it's respectably polished.

Just noticed Wrack on Steam. It has both Score Attack and Time Attack modes, along with a normal campaign. Looks pretty good, actually.

It's still in works but it is a largely playable product at the moment and it contains LOOOOOOOOOTS of unlockables dependent on how fast and good you are at beating it's levels.

If vehicle-based action games are included, Top Gun: Combat Zones has an unusually in-depth scoring system, though it's a rather average game. There's also Blazing Angels II.

Among all non-onrails arcade air combat game, I'd say it has the best scoring system out there.

Speaking of, Drunken Robot Pornography has just been released/made its way out of Early Access recently. With Inago Rage as a bonus, from what I heard.

Also both Descent and Descent 2 are in Steam as well.

Is there any (easily moddable?) fps where you can make your own "challenge mode" missions like those in TimeSplitters or Judge Dredd: Dredd vs. Death?
I know TimeSplitters comes with a level editor, but something playable on very humble computers would be way more convenient. It'd be nice if time limit and other such conditions were easy to implement.

See how beloved was (is?) the first UT against (customisable) bots. There should be a mod along the above lines made.
I know about Inago Rage, but am thinking of more conventional physics and presentation right now.

Might not be exactly what you want, but Doom Builder is an easy way to tweak any DOOM .wad to your liking. Adding/removing or editing monsters, supplies etc is simple as drag n' drop, altering existing architecture (or making new maps altogether) not much harder. Run a level in ZDoom with the "all monsters dead to exit" option enabled and you've got a crude challenge framework already. With a bit of chicanery involving teleporters and out-of-sight monster chambers, it's possible to get sequential waves dropping in for a decent arena challenge. I'm sure time limits, weapon stipulations, combo bonuses etc could be whipped up with ZDoom scripting but that'd be more involved.

I've been gradually turning The Ultimate DOOM into a personal Boner Label replete with DOOM II monsters and exploding barrels in all the worst possible places.

Well, one ought to start somewhere. Not even conventional as much as archetype.

You should check out the demo for Ultrakill that just dropped at GOG:

Two working class dudes, one black one white, just baked a tray of ten cookies together.

An oligarch walks in and grabs nine cookies for himself.

Then he says to the white dude "Watch out for that black dude, he wants a piece of your cookie!"
