It may be a very poor relation of Thunder Force AC and Thunder Force III, but Thunder Spirits (SFC) does have one thing going for it - its exclusive "huge battleship" stage's BGM is pretty good. Not as sophisticated or ultimately as memorable as the immense TFIII track it replaces, but still, those lead melodies are brilliantly plaintive and the bassline gallops along. Stirring shooter BGM, fitting for a suicidal solo raid on a huge MFN' battleship!

AWW NO, NOW I'M LISTENING TO ALL SORTS OF TECNO SOFT BGMS, I have work to do this morning and MY MULLET IS OVERFLOWING ;w; *shears frantically*

I like to think of the latter half of Thunder Force IV as the "STOMP ON YOUR MOTHERFUCKING FACE SUITE FOR ELECTRIC GUITAR SHOOTING BGM," with lighters in the air for the staff roll. ;3 ;3 ;3

Stage Theme 2 - Almana no Kiseki

HOLY FUUUUUUUCKKKKKKK I love the sounds that come out of that FDS sound channel. This song gives me the hardest ear-boner imaginable. I think I've listened to this song on loop for about 2 or 3 hours today. Goddamn.

Ghouls and Ghosts C64.
Super spacey soundtrack. The song picks up in earnest a bit further in.

Actually, just watch that video from the start.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

Oh nice, the soundtrack is by Kinuyo Yamashita (lady who composed the first Akumajo Dracula's OST, also on the FDS). Game looks really cool too - like a console sequel to Roc n' Rope with those unmistakable FC-era Konami sprites.

I've been enjoying Akira Yamaoka's SDATCHER (Suda51's radio drama Snatcher prequel) soundtrack, somewhat... a lot of it blurs together, but there's a handful of excellent tracks like the thumping opening title theme and the techno-dirge of Zero Contact. SDATCHER itself is pretty neat too, if very short. Some creepy and deranged goings-on in there with plenty of atmosphere. Awesome sound effects too.

Revisiting Naoto Shibata & co (plus drum machine)'s hair metal Konami AST pentalogy this weekend, now that I've got all five in SUPERB LOSSLESS QUALITY Image

>Perfect Selection Dracula Battle
>Perfect Selection Dracula Battle II
>Perfect Selection Konami Shooting Battle
>Perfect Selection Konami Shooting Battle II
>Perfect Selection Snatcher Battle

I was crazy for these albums as a young n00b, but went a bit cold on 'em (besides the gorgeous DB1 rendition of Vampire Killer's staff roll) when I discovered Bret Michaels was actually bald. I still see why I liked them. This is classic Konami VGM plus TRUE HAIR METAL you SSH-loving little hipster fucks! /\(o_o) Get bodied to the overwhelming powwa of CROSS A FEAR \m/ >_< \m/

I'm a bit miffed they did a Snatcher one, though (and would be as miffed if they'd done a Metal Gear or Gradius or Goemon one!). Why not a full Contra album?! Super Contra's arcade OST is already heavy as fuck! GRRR. I still have to track down the "Best of Naoto Shibata's Hair Metal Pentalogy" album in lossless for its paltry couple of Super Contra tracks.

Awesome, love it. I didn't even know he'd worked with Falcom - shame on me!

Someone should sample GET POWWER for a homebrew shooter.

GAHHH, I was saving it for today and it's gone! 3: Oh well. Preview sounds great. I still haven't heard Boss Zanmai either, getting slow.

I wonder if any of those earlier Ys tracks qualify for "most officially remixed / arranged game music" status. FN' great tunes...

I was hoping for Field of Gale to make another appearance, but the orchestra version is already just about perfect. Now that is some MOTHERFUCKING FIELD BGM. You just know it's time to gear up, set out, and stab random furry animals for their cash and XP!

The Zanmai albums are a J.D.K. fan's wet dream. All my respect to Kamikura for bringing back the metal of the old Falcom to the present.
And also for doing things like these:

We all need Oriental Magnetic Yellow, at the end of the day.
Chomsky, Buckminster Fuller, Yunus and Glass would have played Battle Garegga, for sure.

Whoa, I'd no idea the first SFC Goemon got an official OST release (I don't think any of the other three games on the system did). That's a quality soundtrack, will have to track it down...

Been listening to Undercover Cops today. Apparently the US and Japanese versions have different soundtracks! I've yet to listen to the US one, but if it's the same quality as the Japanese... oh my god

This tune's been rockin' my socks off:

Super-indulgent, beautifully composed tune with Konami SCC ("+" variant) cartridge power! See also Space Manbow and Metal Gear 2. I love this sound.

Whether it's good or not, I feel it fits well with the game's theme. SPOILER: EXTREME VERSUS FULL BOOST

Honestly I'd prefer this over EXVS' Linkin' Park theme song.

Might not look it, but this album actually contains several brilliant arranged tracks from Herzog Zwei. Pounding, high-drama stuff of Tecno Soft's typical melodic excellence.

Also has Thunder Force II's "Knights of Legend" sadly overlaid with lots of Japanese birds chattering away capped off with good ol' "LAGER, GOOD RUCK." The MSX RPG Shin Kyuugyokuden is the third TS game represented, and I've no idea about it besides "Etude of Wind" being one of the bonus tracks in Devil Crash MD. It's ok I guess, but not a patch on Elemental Master's epic wizard metal (TSMCv4).

Holy shit. Always liked this soundtrack, but kind of forgot about it over the years. Blasting it loud in foobar while playing Brutal DOOM this morning was revelatory. Aggressive, hypnotic, relentless PUMPIN' CHOONS. Set to "loop track," bind a global next track key and you've got the most apropos BDOOM soundtrack ever*! Great in the GITS PS1 game, even better here.

*Well, as far as VGM goes anyway. Hard to beat a good Motörhead playlist.
