Also, speaking of old favourites... Illegal Illusion from X-Multiply. Languidly dark and dynamic in a way I don't hear often from shooter OSTs outside of ZTT. The way that dead-eyed pulse continually dissolves the forceful refrains back into nothingness is quite special.

Zelda: Twilight Princess - "Midna's Desperate Hour"
One of my favourite tracks from a Zelda game, and amazingly emotive when listened to in context of the scene it is a part of.

Best part of Twilight Princess.

This track from Illusion of Gaia popped up on my iPod today. It's one of those ones I'd just stop playing the game and let loop a few times. IoG had some nice music; was always fond of this one too.

Utterly perfect upgrade of Thunder Force III's Hunger Made Them Desperate [Orn Base BGM] from Hyper Duel [AC]. Full credit to rijji for discovering its place in the game. I so wish it were possible to hear this while playing normally. "Night Sweeper" is a great song but it creates a winding-down effect, where this really fits stage 7's storming of the final defensive line.

This remix from Sonic is amazing, I love the melancholy tone that would fit right in one of Ashura Blaster's stages.

Lots of Ninja Warriors-related gaming reminds me how I <333 Zuntata long long time. No other VG sound team encompassed such eccentric and rocking sounds.

MOTHERLESS CHILDREN (The Ninja Warriors)
THE NIGHT DIVER (Battle Gear 2)

Fuuuck I love the mechanical yet violently energetic drum sound on The Night Diver.

The classic Sonic the Hedgehog games had great music, much of it which suspiciously resembles other music. Here are the resemblances I noticed.

In Sonic 1 for Game Gear, the music for Bridge Zone resembles Tails' theme from Sonic Adventure and the theme for Full House.
Bridge Zone: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYJkol00JCE
Sonic Adventure: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxW8LzAunrI
Full House: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zx3Zo9t7c8Q

In Sonic 1 for Genesis, Green Hill Zone's music sounds like Silver the Hedgehog's theme, "Dreams of an Absolution" from Sonic the Hedgehog '06, which sounds like Stardust's "Music Sounds Better With You"

In Sonic 1 for Genesis, Scrap Brain Zone's music resembles the ending theme for Blade Runner, but sped up.

Hydrocity Zone's music sounds like Mike Mareen's "Heavy Water"

Takeshi Miura (composer), Naohiko Higuchi (guitar) - Time Crisis 4

One of my favorite OSTs overall but here are a few tracks I had in mind at the moment.
Theme from Chapter 1-5 (Captain Rush vs. Terrorist Leader)
"Leave It To Us!", the Final Battle theme (vs. Gregory Barrows). This one freaking owns. I don't know the lyrics (in German, maybe?) but the whole thing is just awesome in a Fatal Fury 2 Wolfgang Krauser theme way. Love that cathedral bell.
Credits theme from PS3 version (a new theme that plays AFTER the arcade's ending, with the credit roll done on a black screen like in Razing Storm)
Stage 1-1 arcade, "Infiltration"
Stage 2-2 arcade, "Crimson Sunrise"
Stage 2-3 arcade (Vs. Jack Mathers), "To Live or Die" Also used for a Terror Bite encounter in stage 2-2. Fast, furious, and unrelenting bass guitar riffs.

Takeshi Miura with Sanae Kasahara, Kaoru Okada, & Takuya Yokota- Time Crisis 3
Stage 2-1

Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu Black Label
Mercilessness (Zatsuza theme)- Yoshimi Kudo

Falcom Sound Team JDK
Evildoer (Xanadu Next)
Samsara & Paramnesia (Ys Origin)
Although Xanadu Next's BGM diverges from their usual sound, it does have a classic JDK style final boss battle theme.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

Been on a JDK binge this weekend, mainly listening to Dinosaur Resurrection's OST. The Lost Ones is a gem with its bridging of a particularly foreboding atmosphere and their trademark rock guitar. The original game's version (on "Music from Dinosaur") is great too, maybe even better, but I can't find it anywhere on Youtube sadly.

I've been obsessed with the Timesplitter series soundtrack lately.
Can't name a specific track but the whole thing (especially by Graeme Norgate) is amazing.

Elevator Action Returns VCO Cinema Mix Awesome expanded OST. Particularly good listening experience if you're familiar with the game, or if you just like YACK's breezier jazz-inflected stuff. Works the game's more sedate interstitial BGM into spacey, lounging grooves punctuated by the explosive firefight / stage climax tunes.

These three tracks have got to be the saddest and most depressing compositions from Go Sato that I've ever heard, especially the last two.

Does anyone else think Phantasy Star IV's thundering boss theme "Laughter" sounds a lot like Verytex's equally badass first boss BGM? The jackhammer bassline and ominous droning in particular gave me a strange cross-genre sense of deja vu while trying out Verytex today (although Sakimoto+Iwata's soundtrack came first).

Also, Funkyzeit mit Wolf3D! ;3
