Bayonetta (PS3/360)
Bayonetta (PS3/360)
It comes out at the end of October in Japan, so roughly around a month from now. Apparently the game's region locked to Japanese 360s, and the PS3 version is inferior as it's being outsourced to another studio. Localization is due January 2010 for both consoles.
It's from the maker of DMC (1/3) and ex-Clover employees (God Hand) which is why I care about it. The stupid dialogue and story itself can do whatever it wants, she has an attack where her hair transforms into a monster and eats enemies. Here's some footage:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GqmpDAhxGJA
And here's a more recent one of the developer playing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKLgEV5DycU
Still unsure as it looks very close to DMC4, which I liked enough to beat a few times but that was during a drought where there wasn't anything coming out for a few months. I preferred DMC1 and God Hand. Thoughts?

Re: Bayonetta (PS3/360)
I'm pretty excited for this. It looks like a rather sweet game, and the main girl has (surprisingly?) really, really caught on with a lot of the wives/fiances in the group of people I hang out with. An easy purchase for me so long as it doesn't get stuck in a big glut of other releases (and even then, I'd probably still buy it to be honest...)

Re: Bayonetta (PS3/360)
I put it on pre-order a while back. I think if anything, the absolute level of absurdity will be worth the price of admission.
Re: Bayonetta (PS3/360)
I'm really holding out for it being the God Hand of this gen, something that knows exactly when to hand you your ass. I could end up getting disappointed but I think not. The fact that it got pushed back is a good sign. Or not? Some of the more casual friendly shit I saw they did to it in vids is discouraging. I'm hoping they also took a lot of time to polish it for it's real audience. So I'm second guessing myself on it but still leaning towards day one purchase.

Re: Bayonetta (PS3/360)
Hoping the game will be something significantly better than madworld AND that the PS3 version isn't that inferior.

I'm still very interested in this and will probably pick it up but some stuff I've seen in videos let's me think it's one of those games you should start out with a harder difficulty than "normal". Of course that's assuming the footage shown wasn't played on a lower difficulty setting.
I wouldn't dare to call it the next God Hand, but here's hoping this game will still kick me in "teh ballz".

The Japanese demo goes up on the 8th of October (on both XBLA and PSN).
There's some solid gameplay in this vid (I rather like the music).

Kamiya only worked on the first Devil May Cry, not the third. The original game was the best in the series, though, so I think this game has potential to be better than DMC3 or 4.Elixir wrote:It's from the maker of DMC (1/3)

3 was better
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?
Re: Bayonetta (PS3/360)
The first is the best until you go back to it after playing three. Though I agree that was when Dante was coolest.
I currently have no reason to believe Bayonetta will be anything short of face meltingly awesome. She may have a dodgy accent and the lollipop suggests somewhat lax hygiene, but I don’t think that’s going to matter much when she's flying around the screen killing angel things with upside down faces with an assortment of whips, gun boots, ice skates and pole dancing while the right hand side of the screen reminds me that, yes, I am awesome. The more story sequences that make no sense at all, the better.

From the looks of the freeway scenes, the designers must have liked Matrix Reloaded.

Re: Bayonetta (PS3/360)
I'll probably pick this up, as I still consider this gen to be a 'drought where nothing good is coming out'. This looks good enough. Question is PS3 or 360? The PS3 is constantly hooked up.

Re: Bayonetta (PS3/360)
The PS3 version is already being considered inferior, because it's being outsourced to Sega instead of being by Platinum Games. There's also noticeable issues with the PS3 demos, or so I've heard.GaijinPunch wrote:I'll probably pick this up, as I still consider this gen to be a 'drought where nothing good is coming out'. Demo comes out on the 8th. It'll have 3 stages for the 360 and 2 for the PS3.

Re: Bayonetta (PS3/360)
This is also what I'm curious about. From what I've read, the PS3 version is graphically a little less; but still just as playable. There's apparently some talk that the game's controls might be a little better on the PS3 because...you know...the PS3 has the dual shock. I'd really like to know if the 'inferior' thing is a deal breaker, or if the xbox version is just going to be a little brighter and shinier.Elixir wrote:The PS3 version is already being considered inferior, because it's being outsourced to Sega instead of being by Platinum Games. Either way, I'm not buying a 360.

Re: Bayonetta (PS3/360)
If you're not buying a 360 and own a PS3..... then get the PS3 version. It should get the job done well enough.
I WAS going to get the PS3 version, but now after reading how the game was made 1st on 360 I am going the safer route.

Re: Bayonetta (PS3/360)
The long awaited PS3 Bayonetta demo is now available for download on the Japanese PSN site. It's a 1,195MB file d/l btw. This demo gives you a sample taste with a single stage to go through with two difficulty settings to choose from. The FMV scenes that take place at the beginning and various parts of this stage are very well done and is presented entirely in English with Japanese subtitles this time around for a different change of pace. When you see the three words appear on-screen at the eventual conclusion...you'll want to see what further adventures await this super sexy femme fatale endowed with a lithe trim figure (along with the T&A to match) and packing some serious firepower indeed. ^_~

Re: Bayonetta (PS3/360)
I downloaded the PS3 and 360 demos.... as far as using the demos to compare the 2 versions, the PS3 version is vastly behind the 360 version. The 360 version is razor sharp and runs at a rock solid 60 FPS (cut scenes were at 30 FPS).... the PS3 version was definitely at a lower frame rate most the time and was much fuzzier.
I was actually pretty shocked by the difference.
However, I was pretty blown away by the visuals on the 360. It would have looked great at 30FPS but considering it runs at 60FPS it really makes the visuals stand out more than the norm.

Re: Bayonetta (PS3/360)
Downloaded the demo for 360 and it's really enjoyable. Pretty much everything I expected is there. The only thing I dislike is that the lockon is RB and RT is needed to dash, and doing both at once feels odd.
Anyway, if you don't have a Japanese 360 Gold account like I do, download this:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ZGVDV3OW
Burn it to a DVD and it should be perfectly playable. Enjoy.

Re: Bayonetta (PS3/360)
DMC1 was the coolest fucking game I've ever played. Reeks of cool. Drinks cool beer, slams cool whiskey, and pukes cool all over the cold floor. Can't wait to play Bayonetta.

Framerates for the demo.
360 Average(47.973) Tearing(28.776%) Min-Max(30.0-60.0)
PS3 Average(33.443) Tearing(52.804%) Min-Max(20.0-51.5)
Plus the PS3 version looks smeared and dull.
Most dissapointing.

The PS3 demo also contains less content and ends before the very busy clock tower descent fight.

Re: Bayonetta (PS3/360)
Just played through the 360 demo. Normally this type of game doesn't do a whole lot for me, but I get a feeling I'll be buying this one at some point. I think the dark hair and librarian glasses are a factor.

You are probably right. Also, the region-free JP PS3 version is out this month, hopefully it's import friendly for english players otherwise we have to wait until 2010 for a localization.t0yrobo wrote:I think the dark hair and librarian glasses are a factor.

Here's a PS3 vs. 360 comparison. 360 is definitely better in this instance. I'll be looking forward to the Japanese 360 version at the end of the month.

Re: Bayonetta (PS3/360)
I didn't like the clocktower falling section - too zoomed out to see the action properly - the later parts though - wow, Sega actually made a good game! I'll definitely be buying this one.

I don't have a LAN cable long enough to reach my 360. Will borrow one from the office tomorrow. Guess I'll just watch some tube until then.
