Rules
- Please submit your ship type, score, # deaths, and # pains for all modes. For Touring mode, also indicate your route and last stage reached.
- Touring mode will be ranked by score. X_Psy and U_T_N will be ranked by deaths, then pains, and then score.
- Play in Mortal mode only. Mahilo/Yoxola are set to Immortal by default, so you have to turn that off in the Switch menu.
- No skipping stages with Esc!
- 1 entry per user per table.

I can't get past the first boss. Any tips?

Quick advice:

- Play as Khyh or Nyphn, they're probably the most straightforward to control. Magnum Opus beat the game as Khyh before the last forum change.
- Kill the shoulder parts before attacking the center. It's ok to hurt the center a little, but you don't want to trigger its next attacks until you're ready.
- The square shots make a loud noise when they are aimed at you, use this to time your movements.
- For the green form, first pattern, buzz the orange/purple line shots.
- For the red form, first pattern, you're relatively safe directly behind the boss.
- Try to save your bomb until the very end, the boss fires a really nasty barrage when it explodes.
- Don't feel bad if you can't beat it. This is by far the most intricate, and probably the most difficult, first stage boss I've ever seen, and it takes a ton of practice. Think about it analytically, and try to learn all the bullet patterns, one at a time.

I think I'll start a GD thread in Strategy. But not right now, it's late here. If someone else wants to, go for it.

hey, thanks for the advice.

yeah, this game is really fucking hard. but it's kinda nice, because sometimes i suck at everything, so if i play a game that i always suck at then i don't feel so bad!

i figured out how to pick the other characters. i didn't know about that! i'll have to try it out.

damn, too bad im on a mac, will post a score when i can get my hands on a PC, definitely.

this game is great, and yes, first boss is horrible.

any differences between the underdogs version and the newer onee? what are they?
i remember playing the older version, where kyhk was a beast, they nerfed him somewhat in the version available at underdogs (mainly speed issues, he was easier to play, now he's a pain, still good tho)

I honestly don't know any version differences. I have v1.40 from when Ballistic Zen was up. The screenshots at The Underdogs show some sort of anime background that I haven't seen before, but I don't think that background is in the version they have for download. If I had a fast connection, I could check.

Inudon Empire, the developer, has some sort of patch out for v1.41, but I don't know what it does.

Nice progress! I happened to get to the end of stage 6 last night, so I had some score improvement, too. Stages 5-7 get brutal with impossibly fast attacks that you -have- to know about beforehand.

122,973,034 / Nyphn / 7 deaths / 25 pains / 1-4-6

(I omit path 1/path 2 in the sequence section because they're mandatory stages. Not a big deal, just sayin.')

right when i thought I was gonna somehow miraculously going to pass you up you had to go and do that!

lol good job. i wish more people would play this game. it's awesome. And yeah from what I saw of stage 5, it was rough. Stupid spinny things ate me for breakfast. The background was badass though.

I still like being Khyh, Nyhn or whatever his/her/its name is moves around too fast for me.

Cool. I hardly know anything about stage 5, I always picked 6 because (1) it didn't seem to need as much memorization and (2) I love the artwork.

I made it to stage 6 with Gophn, 96,926,536, 6D/18P, 1-4-6, not as good as Nyphn. You really need to have a plan to use Gophn, but it is the strongest ship by far. It's insane fun if you map out the levels and come up with a detailed plan.

Improved X_Psy: Gophn, 2D/4P, 6,268,145

And, I am in awe of Skyline's U_T_N score.

Weird. I suck in evry other mode of the game but x_Psy seems very easy to me:

Yeah, I realize how Hykyh works. We can't really rank by death/pain/score though; the more pains you get, without dying, the faster your clock increases.

I think U_T_N works much better as a survival/zanki attack than as a score attack, so I'm going to leave the ranking alone unless people are really unhappy with it.

yeah my computers down for the moment so i don't have my exact old score but it was about 21(1/9),000,000 with 11 deaths, 1-2-5-7-8, khyh. or something like that bit over 200,000,000 whatever it was.

I'm personally against doing that, although it's kind of an arbitrary thing. Keeping the rules simple, not pushing the stage any more in favor of Khyh, etc.

Was that your game clear score, or high score? Also, if I understand extends correctly (25M first, +28M after), you can't die 11 times unless you get 221M. Anyway I posted it as All Clear, because I clearly remember you won in the last forum.

it was both my highest scoring run and my completing run, I don't think i got 220, i might have only died 9 times.

lets see, two or three deaths on the boss, a couple deaths on level seven's boss. probably a death or two in level 5 and then maybe a death on the tail end of level one or two. so yeah maybe 9 deaths. damn i wish i could get at it.

hey does any one remember that site with the superplays?

It applies for any character you use. If you get a pain, your clock increases a lot faster until your lifebar fills back up completely. Of course, if you die, your clock is cut in half.

I think the fact that all the entries in the score table are Khyh suggests that the stage favors Khyh. Maybe because its tight shot poops powerups out of the target so fast, maybe because Hykyh/Khyh have faster bomb recharging per hit than the other ships. Any ship should be able to clear the stage with no deaths and no pains (good luck demonstrating that), but scoring abilities seem very uneven. On my first or second run as Khyh, I had about 15 deaths, but outscored my best run as Nyphn, with 14 deaths, by more than double. So I do think that raising the importance of score would favor Khyh.



I can't find the superplay site any more. Actually, some of the replays looked so frame-perfect that I wonder if the maker(s) didn't use a hex editor to "improve" them. It'd be a lot of work, but it's possible.

Ugh. The stage 6 boss kicks my ass hard, damn homing missiles. But I finally scraped by with one life and promptly got rammed in stage 7.

What's really ridiculous is that I currently have a better high score for Gophn than Khyh. Shows what practice will do for you.
