Touring: Nyphn / 196,594,076 / 10D / 28P / 1-4-6-7

I should have done better, I'd say half my deaths were from carelessness/excitement. Got to the stage 7 boss's final life bar.

P. S. Now I have the latest version. The score system is very slightly different. No way to tell what my old v1.40 scores would be under v1.41, because although the replays work fine, the game loads a stored score at the start of each stage. There are not major differences, at least.

I posted a link to the graphics fix for the start of stage 1 in v1.41.

And, finally, Gophn vs X_Psy: 11,486,349 / 0D / 0P

but one question: how is it possible for a game to be this hard?
I have no sig whatsoever.

The game gives you a lot of advantages, but it makes up for all of them with mean, mean enemies. And, if you don't know Japanese, you probably won't figure out the game system, and it becomes totally hopeless. I'm editing together some info to put in Strategy as a GD right now (for real, this time).

I hadn't liked directly to the download page. There are links from the Vector page to:

http://my.vector.co.jp/info/info.html?/ ... 13786.html
http://my.vector.co.jp/info/info.html?/ ... 13786.html

either of which should start a download automatically. If you get a registration offer, click the button on the right to decline the offer. This site has a download link (button is to the left of the article) that seems to grab the file from Vector as well.

Wow, nice. I -almost- made it to stage 8 a couple days ago, but I died 3 times right before the stage 7 boss.

Nyphn: 217,915,646 - 10D - 38P - 1-4-6-7-8 - Replay?

So I still have to learn stage 8, but, I think I will do it eventually. It's just a matter of making time to play.

5/23/06: Nyphn: 311,039,081 - 14D - 49P - 1-4-6-7-8 - First decent try at stage 8, stuck on the 4th bar.
6/6/06: Nyphn: 323,369,211 - 14D - 41P - 1-4-6-7-8 - So close it hurts. And now, vacation with no computer.
6/15/06: Nyphn: 335,974,924 - 12D - 47P - 1-4-6-7-8-ALL - Replay.

Well that took a while. It looks like I had the 1CC run just as the forum became inaccessible. Now there's a Credits option on the main menu, during which you can fly through some simple but REALLY DENSE patterns. Also, there's a new option in the Switch menu to raise the difficulty. It seems to just add destructible suicide bullets, though. The replay works in 1.41 and 1.40. 1.40 has some scoring discrepancies when stuff blows up right at the end of a stage, but the game adjusts the score for the next level.

102,064,600, Hykyh 1-3-6-7, 6 deaths, don't remember how many pains.

Died almost immediately into 7 because of carelessness.

Hykyh has to be the weakest ship in the lot in my opinion. The firepower is really woeful. The only use for it that I found is kamikaze tactics. Bomb, then fly right above the boss, letting your jet blow into its face.

As of June 23, 06

147,332,800, Hykyh 1-3-5 (actually chose overhaul instead of 5) -7-8, 8 deaths

Died in the second pattern of the final boss. Hykyh is good for aggressive play. In every battle it seems to have one chance, and either take that chance or lose, because it is too weak to fight on equal terms with any of the bosses otherwise.

To shiftace: yea, the front machine gun is strong (but still not as strong as the frontal attack of Khyh, Yoxola, and Nyphn). I just hate how it waves left and right as you move. The only way to aim it properly is to constantly moving and adjusting.

108,231,232, Yoxola 1-3-5, 7 deaths

Died in the last pattern of the stage 5 boss. Yoxola is insanely strong, but seems to have very low defense. Pain always costs 99% the life bar, and I almost never was lucky enough to get a pain. A hit by almost every kind of bullets resulted in instant death for me.

As of June 24, 06

X_PSY

10,348,626, Yoxola, 0 deaths, 0 pains (luck or awesome safe-spot? I need to try it again to say for sure)

Updated. Yeah, Hykyh has all sorts of interesting attacks, but they're all really weak except the shadow thing. The regular machine gun seems pretty strong too, but only if you get close enough for the target to eat the full spread.

Just a notice that I did updated my score (see old post above) :D

I starting to like Hykyh a lot now. Once I got used to the controls it proved to be extremely maneuverable. I play mainly by reflex instead of memorization, so the way Hykyh is equipped to deal with many different scenarios fits my play style perfectly. It's only downfall is the less than potent firepower ;)

242,546,657, Hykyh, 1-3-5-7-8, 11 deaths, 37 pains

I croaked at the last bar of the stage 8 boss. Now this last bar will be one hell of a challenge, because Hykyh lacks concentrated firepower, so I will have to last for a long time to bring her down. I don't see anyway to hold out against her final pattern (when the theme song "radiozonde" starts playing) though :?

U_T_N - 106,742,832, Hykyh, 23d, 45p

Well :D With that kind of death toll this run is nothing to be proud of. I was just playing around with Hykyh to see how much I can abuse the system to score, and score I did...

I normally die 7-8 times in U_T_N, but the scores are nothing compared to what you guys have done, so I won't post any serious U_T_N entry for now.

Today I also came dangerously close to beating the game with Hykyh in Touring, but died 3 times in a row at the end because of over excitement. Then I play just stage 8 again and proceeded to beat it with only 2 deaths. Arg! The more I play shmups, the more I understand the depth of this genre. It is an exercise of the mind as well, a psychological test at times.

June 28:

X_PSY: 11,628,773, Hykyh, 0 death, 0 pains

Did I say Hykyh is hard to control before? Foolish youngster I was. I could have scored about 500k more on this run, but I got too excited at the end I forgot to shoot the metal bits that fall out of the boss for a few seconds after it exploded.

yea, I played on and off before. It's almost a relief beating this game :P It schooled me so badly when I first played it. Now I'm trying to beat U_T_N, and beat the game again with Mahilo, she seems very interesting to play. Also I think that Mahilo is the main character of the story, seeing that she is the first in the character chooser list.

on a side note, how do you make a replay video? I don't have much time to make replay consistently, but once in a while when I got a 1cc done it's nice to know how to do it. Thanks,

There's a mention of replays in the strategy thread. In short, they're made automatically, they go in the \replay\ folder, the latest run for a particular ship+rank+game mode overwrites the previous one, and the file compresses about 75:1. To play a replay, put it in the \replay\ folder, pick the ship+rank+mode, and use X/C to start instead of Z.

I've been playing around with Mahilo and Gophn lately, not comfortable enough to work on my Nyphn score yet...

Touring - Nyphn - 356,235,604 - 13D - 56P - 1-4-6-ALL
Better exploitation of path 2, stage 7, stage 8; tried a different approach to stage 1 that dropped me about 3M. A pity about all the deaths though. I blame outside distractions during the last 2 stages.

Also, I got to the end of stage 6 on Touring/2nd Day, Nyphn 1-4-6; it's not a lot harder than normal Touring. Score was maybe 10% lower than usual.

Various improvements:
Touring - Nyphn - 429,542,138 - 12D - 40P - 1-4-6-ALL - Need to improve milking in stage 8 and be less sloppy overall.
X_Psy - Gophn - 12,251,716 - 0D - 0P - Very fast kill; perhaps using the deflector offensively can make it faster.
U_T_N - Khyh - 139,376,766 - 5D - 15P - It seems that clock % is insignificant; the chain bonus dwarfs everything. Full chaining with no deaths would be really hard.

lol random bump

Touring - Khyh - 303,506,444 - 13D - 39P - 1-3-6-7-8

Stage 7 boss has way too many ohko attacks.

Almost dropped the final boss, but I died right before that extend.

Then again, if I didn't let those 2 deaths in stage 3 pass, I would've been able to clear it. Lack of quality control wtf.

I have replay if anyone wants it.

2 random unnecessary deaths on the 5 boss because I bombed too early. >_>

How high will you go? Nice job. FWIW, in case you're bombing on the last health bar on the stage 5 boss, the nasty blue spam attack never occurs until you kill both side pieces, so you can save a lot of trouble by dropping the center 99% before finishing the second side. I think the rest of the fight is pretty manageable.

Slight improvement

Touring - Khyh - 378,594,794 - 6D - 30P - 1-3-5-ALL

Would be 4 deaths, but I let deaths on 3 and 5 pass.

And yeah, I was bombing the last form of the fifth boss, lol. I bomb the second form, then graze for another bomb to use on the final form's core.

Am I allowed to pick Break In and Overhaul as part of my paths, because I have a score, but I chose Break In instead of Stage 1,and Overhaul instead of Stage 5.

Yes, I think Breakin & Overhaul are fine; easier stages, less scoring, you still have to play 7-8. It won't be the first post to use them, either.

I guess I'll update my own scores as well. Had hoped to do better by now but haven't touched the game in a few months. About 504M with too many deaths in Touring, 1D/5P/159M U_T_N.

Okay, let's see....

The path I took is Break In => Stage 3 => Overhaul =>
The score I got is 317,620,149 with 48P / 14D. I also used KHYH. :/
my "end" is Stage 8. I took too long to kill the last boss so it started doing a new 4th phase with all these crazy patterns.
