Dogyuun (Arcade)

Post by maximo310 »

disclaimer: I contacted Perikles a few months ago asking if this thread would be continually updated. Haven't heard back, so I'm going ahead and taking over updates for the time being.

Old thread here

Due to no boss timeouts, you can milk score off of dodging bosses while holding a enemy with a tractor beam. You could even counterstop the game at 1-4 ( even though it would take a while).
Keeping in line with the previous thread, I reccomend most players to play the game as normal.

One other change: I'll be spliting this into JP and overseas tables ( World/US versions), because the difficulty on JP is pretty noticeably higher compared to US ( faster bullet speed). I'll have to sort these out in the next few days & update everyone.

Got the 1-ALL on the Japan version 8)

Pretty low score partly due to the fact that I died early in loop 2, I was very careless there. Happy I got the 1-ALL anyway, this was the main goal for now. Also satisfied that my strat for stage 9 actually worked and I made it unscathed (at lower rank but still), I decided to change it just before doing this run and it paid off.

Quoting my last posts from the older thread to the latest one here.

It's the way the Thruster power up works in combination with the weapon system. Zipping across the screen with the thrusters is very satisfying.
The presentation is top notch. Only made it past the scorpion boss. Having a blast with this.
I'll eventually post pics of my scores etc as well as pics of my current set up with MAME and ReShade.(really got it looking vibrant with bloom and a sort of crt tube effect. It's always fun to twiddle the settings and make it look awesome while not over doing it!)

So I'm approaching this with 5 credits at a time and sort of playing with more of a conservative mindset in that I'm savoring every moment. Learning as much as I can with the short bursts of playtime that I give this game.(around 30~ minutes and then take a break). I've got a long way to go. A work in progress indeed.
I am falling in love with this game though in way. I just can't get over the whole package that it brings. The colors and sprite work in combination with the YM2151 soundtrack makes this look like a supped up 16 bit mega drive game. The twangy/metallic sound of FM(when done right) brings such satisfaction. Especially since this is a STG - the mind set when creating the soundtrack has got to be more on the adrenaline pumping/energetic side and Tatsuya Uemura delivers on that end.
I will remain active with this game probably until I beat it with the 5 credit max I set myself with.

Updated, and yeah this game has a really nice audiovisual presentation even compared to other shmups of that year, with the extremely detailed mechanical enemy designs. The game is pretty long, with 10 stages on each loop but I think the game does a great job at keeping you engaged with new setpieces here and there.

Perhaps one day I'll come back to this and get a 2-ALL, especially as a friend of mine recently made a super nice MAME artwork overlay for the game.

Really making some good progress with Dogyuun

Can now get to stage 5 with 1 credit.
Have not tested out my current benchmark which is seeing how far I can get with 5 credits.
Such a satisfying feeling when you know you're getting better.
I'm pretty new to sticking to one game with the intentions of 1ccing.

Switched from a LS-56 to a LS-62:

That shaft height!
Wow, what a difference! The responsiveness is much better!
