360 Mode
GUS - 806,914,024 - ALL - Ageha

Maybe my best shmup run ever. I cried tears of joy when it was over.

Also if there's interest I might put this on Youtube with annotations explaining all the little tricks I've figured out over the past 4 months like superplayers do with their runs. I'm not going to pretend to be on that level but I think this game has a very unfair reputation and maybe having some better English language resources might help.

I might come back for Asagi and Black Label sometime but yeah, that's probably my last Ageha run.

I just finished watching the video. That was a really nice and intense run. You have a pretty unique take on certain patterns, and the commentary was a nice touch too. Thanks a lot for sharing that.

Thanks a lot for the video and the annotations!

I have to say it could have been even better if you had added an "extra screen" for the score, as it can be hard to read with youtube quality, and if the annotations lasted a bit longer on screen : they sometimes disappear very fast!

Still, this commented run is enlightening, particularly about the small but important details (how one popcorn is kept alive, such things).

What version is that from?

Those scores look awfully familiar.

Gus, I watched your replay, you are insane! This is my favorite cave game, was so awesome seeing you crush it.

Vyxx, how about some initials other than CAV...
That'll help avoid suspicion

Lol yeah sure. I always just mash AAA. Feel free to discredit this if there is actually a rule that initials other than CAV which is the generic AAA input have to be used :?:

Its my pcb

I will try and give a decent score with my actual initials JWW in a bit if I must??

Yeah, I mean, if you got that high a score you clearly know what you're doing.

Recreating the score with your initials shouldn't be hard.

No offense to Vyxx but I really don't think 500m is a score to be suspicious about. The deal with this game is if you follow a relatively safe scoring route and make a few mistakes you're gonna bring right around that amount but when you start beyond, especially 750m+ things start getting frustrating as you really need to just take the game apart and 1 death in the wrong spot can completely fuck up your run. For me the gap going from 700m to 800m felt a lot bigger 600m and 700m and I'm sure the skill needed to get 900m+ makes the gap between 700m and 800m look like nothing.

Still that's a pretty nice score for PCB as I know everything takes like 10 times as long when you don't have practice modes and leaderboard replays to study.

I've actually owned the 360 release since it launched, and I loved it so much it was the reason I bought the PCB. Same case with Mushi Futari.

Ok, well that's still not a bad score at all. I just think it's a little odd to accuse someone of lying about it.

But speaking of moving from port to PCB, are there actually any major differences between the slowdown on the port and the PCB? I've been wondering for a while as before I played the port I kept hearing about how much harder it was with all this missing slowdown but now that I've played the port extensively I honestly can't see much of a difference between the slowdown on the port and the videos I watch of the PCB.

There are a few differences in some spots, but overall its not that different. The most notable difference is when switching in and out of zesshikai - in the port you can sort of abuse going into Zesshikai Over in some spots to slow the game down, but that doesn't work on the PCB (or at least I never got it to work). Other than that, off the top of my head the beginning of stage 2 is a bit slower in the port, as well as the 2nd pattern of the 1st phase of the stage 5 boss. Also the Alice Clone section feels a bit faster in the port, but I'm not sure about that. There's probably a few other small things as well, but for the most part though it's very accurate. At the very least it was good enough such that I could do stage practice at home and then carry over what I learned to the arcade.

Sorry I'm only 9 months late in updating. Feel free to PM me to nudge me any time. This board spams the shit out of my email, so I usually just ignore them.

Big ups to GUS for giving this game the butt raping it deserves.

Alternatively, you could start checking this topic more often than twice a year. :P

Anyway, came here to say that YOZ uploaded a new 880m replay onto Xbox Live about a week ago. He didn't beat his old 900m replay because of some really shitty deaths and him only finishing with 2 lives but overall the thing has some absolutely breathtaking execution. If you use your imagination a little you can see how he got 1 billion.
