By the way, the index should be updated to have this thread instead of the old one

Dumple - 8,908,920 - 2-2 - 34 - C
Japan version, with WolfMAME 0.183 for Yolympics

My playthrough - I think most of this is a pretty good route for a first 1cc (other than parts of stages 4 and 5).

maximo - 9,334,320 - 2-2 - 56 - C
Japan version, WolfMAME 0.183 as required per Yolympics

Stage 3/4 didn't go as planned (especially 4), did a pretty good safe route of stage 5 for the most part & used the last boss safespot. You want a bomb for that last pattern to do it safe, but I didn't so idk how the hell I survived that last barrage.

Fun game! I had a really good stage 5 this run. I will definitely come back to this one at some point to both improve my score and get the 2-ALL.

Not an impressive score but a big weight off my shoulders... If only I was a little more careful on stage 2 of the second loop I could have maybe pushed this score into the 10 mil range.

Got this while streaming. Making slow progress into the loop. It's hard to get to the loop with lots of resources but I'm slowly getting more consistent at 1-5. I still struggle on the 1-4 boss without a few bombs. :(

Thanks! It's just a basic 1cc. :)

Juju Kenobi has recently inspired me to start this game again. I want to see how scoring feels with Type A as well and maybe even look into the Magnum chain in 1-5.

Expect some more Donpachi streams~

If anyone's interested, the 25m run is still available as a past broadcast on my stream but will be auto-deleted soon.

Hey menoslug, I've beaten your score!

Highest capacity bonus in this run was 2-2. The mistake in 2-3 was very silly and won't happen again, I promise.

I'm also getting more consistent with 20m in loop 1 which feels very nice.

As usual, thanks for the kind words Roo~ I'm having a lot of fun with Donpachi again!

Just pushed it a little bit further and reached my goal of getting the 2-3 capacity bonus.

BKRoo - 15,690,880 - 2-5 - 50 - Type B (1P)

Edging close to a clear... I can get into loop 2 without dying decently reliably now. I need a near perfect run of loop 2 to clear though and I'm not sure if I prefer deliberately suiciding on the stage 5 boss to get no-miss rank or not, but the clear's close, hopefully. Because of loop 2's no-miss rank revenge bullets, it means an early death in loop 1 isn't a run ender either.

Type A's too thin for my tastes (it feels like A-L without the laser speed or piercing) and while Type C is pretty darn good and I've gotten used to its lower speed, the lack of frontal damage when using shots makes certain enemies tricky (the wide tanks early in stage 5 that have two turrets and then a main body to kill in particular).

Type B's damage is really good when at the range where the middle bullets fire without any gaps, allowing you to maintain shot width and damage roughly equivalent to long range laser. Type A noticeably is weaker, and C's obviously weaker still (so it's handy to plan out when to laser tanky targets). Damage appears to be ordered as:

Type C shot < Type A shot < Type B shot (long range) < Laser (long range) = Type B shot (close to mid range) < Laser (aura)

Also I notice that Type A's laser is slightly skinnier than Type B and Type C? It's not just how the sprite looks, the hitbox actually appears to be smaller! Laser damage may very slightly differ between shot types (in Dodonpachi Type A-S is strongest, type C-S is weakest, but the difference is near negligible, it's like 68 damage per frame vs 66 or something, all the Laser type ships have equal damage in DDP).

Based on tests this seems to hold true for bosses as well, but in general the laser's best on all bosses except for killing the shield the stage 4 boss has as you sweep left and right across it (after you destroy the side beam cannons with laser). The reason being the boss designs don't favor using shot generally:

• S1 boss's weakpoints are too small to connect with all three sets of bullets
• S2 boss has major opportunities to use laser aura and the orbs will smack you if you try to use shot
• S3 boss isn't too bad to use shot on actually, it's handy for dealing with the popcorn as they appear, laser aura's handy for the turrets that move up from the middle
• S4 boss forces you down too low on the screen for shot to be as useful
• S5 boss design keeps you low on the screen, shot's not bad for damage and agility on last wave
• Shot's actually real handy for TLB if you don't trust yourself to get in and out of aura range safely during spread bombs (TLB takes minimal damage from laser bombs, don't use those)

Improved my score with type C by a bit. Finally broke that 70 million barrier!

In 2017, I have promised to post a video for type C in the future and can now finally hold my word. It's always been on my mind so I'm glad this is off the table now. I apologize for the long wait!

In case anyone here is interested, I have also beaten the obscure Hong Kong romset of DonPachi. A replay of this achievement can be found here.

BKRoo - 15,875,870 - 2-5 - 51 - Type B (1P)

Died on the TLB. First time getting there, and with only two bombs remaining it wasn't going to end well. Kind of a pathetic improvement in score, but it's a major survival improvement for me and a clear feels close. I need to refine my strategies and learn 2-5 + TLB better to minimize how many bombs I need. I'd like to play this for score too, but learning the chaining and getting the max capacity bonuses will be tough. The Stage 4 boss feels tougher in some ways than the Stage 5 boss, that last attack where the bombs home in on you is daunting.

Thanks, I hope so. I'd hate to come so close and not be able to nab the clear, but it's a damn hard game, and it scares me a bit to think the clear could potentially elude me because it's just too hard for me.

I played most of the weekend and only made it to 2-5 like three times, so I really need to improve my consistency. 2-4 is a supremely difficult level to do reliably and I feel like I've only barely made a dent in it. The last half (when the giant battleship shows up that has all the turrets) in particular is a nightmare.

Forgot to record it because I wasn't expecting to get a 1-ALL today lol. Hopefully I can rebeat it with a recording.

Also 50th game 1cc and my first new one in over a year.

Thanks guys! :D

It really looks like a score I can be satisfied with. As my approach is rather casual, I don't like to just grind for perfection if I'm already that close to my theoretical best (85 million). If me or anyone else will figure out how to do a significantly better 2-3 or how full Phantom chain at the end of 2-5 is even possible with Type C, I'll probably return to this game once again.
