I have decided to take over the old highscore thread for Fighter and Attacker ( also known as F/A in Japan) with Ed's permission.

Rules are:
Default settings, extends at 120k and 360k. I don't believe there are any region differences??!!
Format: name- score- ship- stage reached- region- emu ver.- autofire used

Warning: On some MAME versions ( such as 0.214), something in the emulation got broken ( which should be fixed in 0.216) and it allows you to have a greater range of vertical movement range than you should ( so much that you can move below the visible playfield), so avoid using those versions when submitting runs. In addition, the game screen gets surrounded by red border in current MAME versions, so you might want to use an older MAME version if you don't want to edit it out of your recording.

Is there gonna be a huge influx of F/A scorers soon? I kinda want to see a bit more activity first before splitting boards, but I will take your suggestion to heart.

Was practicing later stages and impulsively decided to play a credit, got hit twice in stage 2 (!) but decided to stick with it for some familiarisation with the entire game instead of just the endgame, got the clear instead. Was a sterling, tense experience* as a result even though the score is pitiful, I shall return one day for certain. I wrote more in my video description as per usual, suffice it to say I consider this to be a great, great game. Will eagerly watch your progress, maximo! :)

*I was so elated I even decided to tackle freaking Pistol Daimyo directly thereafter where I managed a 1LC after a few attempts, hooooray! :lol:

I just briefly watched your vid in youpak ( youtube doesn't let me watch in us, since the soundtrack rights are owned by victor entertainment haha), you sure handle the latter stages exceptionally well compared to my run ( i can't count the number of times stg7/ stg 8 or the final boss wrecked me). As for scoring, most of the extra point come from optimizing prisoner routes and milking some bosses ( such as the stg 2 boss) to push scores past the 2 million range ( in addition to the ridic points you get for the clear bonus).

For different ship types, most of the ships with a straight secondary shot seem to be the easiest to pick up, with JA37's spread shot doing awesome point blank damage; in comparison the Full Auto F-117A is considered to be the toughest ship to clear the game with.

I'm trying to improve my dying comp setup first before coming back, but I believe my route has a potential of 1.8 million. Hopefully I will get to show it off sooner than later.

And last but not least, I thought your video description was really good and captured the essence of the game!

Finally derusted, 3-miss clear ( Took a hit on stg 2 boss, stg 7 second half, & final boss). Managed to get a better prisoner count on the mid-stages ( 88k on stage 3, 54k on stg 4, 56k on stg 5), along with more consistent surival strategies ( stg 4 second half & stg 6/7/8 positioning). Sadly, I could not get a video due to being in the middle of a call at the time, but feel free to ask for additional strat info since I'll be working on this, at least in the short term.

Picked this ship after having two nice runs with the F-14D and A-10A get destroyed on the final stage ( former for the fatass hitbox), and latter for taking too many hits beforehand. Ship's 5-way primary shot is great for the majority of enemies, yet the arc of the secondary shot ( a fire bomb in this case) is troublesome even with autofire ( no more apparent than the 2 goofs on Round 7, along with missing a bunch of prisoners on Round 3). Despite these issues, I'd still say this probably one of the better beginner ships to pick for a clear.

Finally got the clear, super dicey finish despite having 4 armor pieces going into stage 8 ( only had one left after beating the final boss). So glad I finally conquered this plane, since its quite a bit more difficult compared to the other plane selection, & I did on/off attempts for 6 months just with that plane. Not sure what I'll do next w/ this game.

Started to take a look at this plane to get at least 1 homing missile clear. W/ auto down to 20hz, it looks like some of the issues of getting the homing missiles to lock on to ground targets might be not as severe. However, I still need to be careful with positioning, as some ground formations pop up too close to your plane & the lack of range in the lock-on will require me to miss out on some prisoner points for the sake of survival.

Stage 7 is the biggest roadblock for this plane, namely getting the positioning correct on the two big turrets ( with the two blue tanks, and three rotating roof turrets) as well as the aztec pattern center near the boss. Stage 8 shouldn't be nearly as bad thanks to the plane's speed and decent range of its main shot.

Edit (12/24.19)- Added a warning based on a would-be pb run on another MAME version. I was able to move below & above the visible playfield on ARCADE 0.214, so I invalidated that run & added note on the top of the scoreboard.

Did another run, my first 1-miss on this game ( on stage 6). Got extremely lucky with some of the bullet patterns on Stage 7, but some of the new survival strats I devised for this plane worked pretty well on the run. Expect a ST update soon with more strat info & a playlist showcasing my different clears/strats since I've cleared with each main shot type & secondary shot type.
