Default settings; 3 lives, "difficalty" set to 3 on arcade/MAME - Last Resort goes from 0-7 instead of 1-8 levels of difficulty for some strange reason. Please set to MVS difficulty if playing on AES/Neo CD. SNK Arcade Classics version of this game will not be allowed for scoring competition, per @Kiken - does not allow MVS difficulty to be selected and gives exends out much more frequently.

Been playing this quite a bit recently since I purchased the AES cart.

Kiken - 644,800 - 2-5

No-missed to 2-5, milked the first checkpoint 4 times and then proceeded on to the boss where I screwed up dodging one of his central lasers. Had I not died there, my score would have been 20,000 pts higher. So 660K is definitely doable, 670K is not out of the question... but 680K would require reworking how I do the 2-5 initial checkpoint. After I get my X-Neo in the mail, I'll start capping runs again.


BTW, while it should be obvious, the PS2 port included on the SNK Classics Volume 1 disc is definitely not viable for this thread. Not only is MVS/Arcade difficulty not selectable, the game defaults to 5 extends and uses an infinite score-based extend setting (first at 60K, second at 130K and then another extend every 140K thereafter).

Three deaths- 2 in stage 4, first a really stupid one where I didn't go to the right in time to get away from the pillars, and one to the boss. No more until early stage 2-5.
The stage 5 boss is a pushover if you use G. Those other enemies at the top and bottom are done away with by the ground napalm. If you die late in stage 5 and get sent back to the final checkpoint, good luck coming back. It's almost Gradius III bad then.

I have been playing this on PS4 lately, trying to go for a 1CC and hopefully higher than that 535700. The online hi-score mode seems like it's MVS difficulty.

Is the PS4 version the ACA release from Hamster? If so, I'm going to assume it's just like the version on Switch, which defaults to Normal difficulty (not MVS/Arcade) when playing in either of the score attack modes.

I think the PS4 Last Resort may be MVS level (in that case, 3) on hi-score mode. PS4 ACA Pulstar does show a "Level-4" on its HS mode.

Is autofire implicitly allowed unless stated otherwise around here? It's a fairly big advantage in this game. Anyway, assuming MAME autofire isn't a problem, here's my submission:
