I guess that's everything that should be tracked. There's also Practice and Very Easy, but I don't think there would be much interest in either of them. I'll add them if there's some demand, though.

Ideally, I think the scoreboards should be split by route, but it's pointless if there isn't much activity. An ALL-S (ie. TLB clear) is more difficult than an ALL-B or ALL-C, but I believe it has less scoring potential overall (at least as of version 1.20). Hopefully MOSS adjusts this.

I don't own the game yet and don't want to ruin the experience by watching replays... is it really easy or did you play it a whole lot to achieve all these clears?

It's pretty hard to no miss/no bomb, but I don't think it's that hard to clear - especially if you're not going for the TLB. The game gives you a lot of resources. Instead of lives, you have a shield, and you regenerate a percentage of it after every stage (I don't know what determines the exact amount, but it varies between 6-16%). There are also three fairies you can collect that kinda act as 1ups. If you've picked up a fairy and drop below 50% shield, you can pick it up again once you respawn and it will restore 25% of your shield. But only if you can survive the hit. (Each bullet does 17% damage to the Azuma btw, the other ships have slightly more or less health. And you take twice as much damage if you crash into an enemy.)

I've put a decent amount of time into it. 67 hours according to XBL, plus whatever time I spent watching replays and thinking of different strategies, etc.

I don't like posting scores anymore because they're always terrible non-clears like this. Noone really plays shmups anymore, it's depressing.

Director's Cut - Easy
Despatche - 23,090,500 - 4-S - Azuma - PC - 1.00

Wide, Lightning, Bend. I really wish they just split the three weapon sets among the three ships, then split the ships. Then we'd just have three pretty good ship types instead of this build-a-ship mess.

They took a pretty good game and made it better, I think. That first Mission is good stuff.

Can the Cheer Attack actually be used to weaken a boss or anything like that? Or does it just do too much damage and end up throwing away your multiplier? I've been trying to avoid using it, since I'm only easy modo right now. It'd kinda suck if you could actually use it for scoring.

You can use the cheer attack to weaken bosses. Your Flash Shot level starts draining quickly as soon as you activate it, but if you time it so your attack ends just before the boss dies, you'll get something better than the 1.0x multiplier, at least. Normally it's best to never use them, but they're actually good in the Mission stages. Your multiplier will never go past 1.0 regardless, so the extra firepower helps you get more medals.

I don't like that much, I kinda hope they fix that. Now I really do want the original version of the game included in DC...

I wouldn't mind if they changed it, but I don't really think it's a negative either. The only downside is that cheers affect how often you can use the attack, so if you're online with a bunch of other players, you could get an extra attack in and get some more medals out of it. The score difference looks so minor though that it's really not worth caring about unless you've completely maximized points elsewhere (in which case, play another game). On the upside, with the way it is now, it means you're actually allowed to use the super attacks that the devs created. I'm fine with that.

I'd rather they nerf how many resources the silver and gold medals give you tbh.

If it's really that minor, I guess it's not a big deal. Still way better than IV charge shot! My thing is that it depends so much on whether other players are online and everyone's cheering properly. I always figured that's why scoring was neutered when you use Cheer Attacks.

I do agree that the resource gain is overkill. First time I played Mission 1, I had no idea what I was doing and got like four bombs and two fairies. That's silly.

Is ALL-B still the way to go? What's the easiest way to rank down, anyway?

I haven't tested it, but I think ALL-S clears actually have higher scoring potential in the DC thanks to the extra powerups in the mission stages.

I don't know how to access the lower rank stages, honestly. I never played most of them in either version. I think it has something to do with how many enemies you let escape, but I'm not sure.

Since I made a new personal best, I thought it 'best' to bump this topic. C'mon guys, where are your submissions? This game is actually excellent. I think I like it more than Raiden IV. Raiden IV made previous Raiden games feel ancient... and Raiden V makes Raiden IV feel like some old fogey.

Just my initial thoughts. Don't worry IV, I still love you!

You can swap out my previous score with this one, since it doesn't change my standing at all.

Made some very nice improvements this evening, getting to survive a bit farther into stage 5. Getting better at the Mission stage was key to powering up my ship further! I think the blue crystal laser is best there, as it allows you to attack and rack up medals without having to be in the line of fire. The difficulty by now really heats up in a satisfying and enjoyable way. The life extensions given seem to be more generous the better I do. Maybe it's tied to my destruction rate and bombs/medals?

That's exactly the problem, Mero, that's why I get so angry about this game. People can just say some nonsense, it builds up into a tangled mess, and next thing you know everyone's too afraid to even try the game.

I see no reason why not; I think the only differences are a slight graphical downgrade (and maybe slight performance issues).
Have at it; this game's fun!

Raiden V: Directors Cut

Normal
maximo -79,168,750 - ALL-S - Spirit of Dragon - PC - 1.01

Hard
maximo - 81,740,000 - ALL -S - Spirit of Dragon - PC - 1.01- Replay

Was a bit shocked that I got the TLB Normal clear first try, so I popped in a couple of hard credits and cleared the game again w/ TLB. The bonus missions make this game pretty forgiving with the amount of resources you get. Game length is a bit longer than I'd like, and some sections don't have great visibility but it's a pretty decent game overall. I hope the devs can build on some of the new ideas here in a future sequel.
