Shippu Mahou Daisakusen: Kingdom Grandprix

Previous thread. Thanks to Andi for maintaining it for many years.

Rules

Full defaults, one credit. Autofire is fine.

Screenshots/videos are encouraged, but are in no way required aside from exceptional circumstances, which will be at my discretion. I'm pretty lenient; this board is for fun friendly competition, so I hope nobody is actually sad enough to waste their time submitting a fake score.

Please use the following submission format.

Name - Score - Stage - Character - Platform [Region]

If you play "Shooting Mode," the hidden mode exclusive to the Saturn version that removes all of the racing elements, there's a table for that too, so please just mention that in your submission. Since there are some regional differences (at least between JP and NA, but possibly others), if you play the game on PCB or in MAME, you now must specify which region the game was set to, if applicable.

As you can see, I've broken things out by character, as well as made a combined top 10 for those who might like it. There were over four years(!) of submitted scores that weren't on the existing board, so I've done my best to get everything in there accurately. Let me know if you see any mistakes or omissions.

ProjectAKo recently exposed some huge tricks that the WR players must have used, so get in there and set some new records!

Dude amazing. Since when has this thread existed Image It's just too bad I don't have time to practice anymore so ultimately I'll be unable to use this thread at all...

also here's the counterstop I found https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xffQRcN18Vg
and my scoring guide with savestates is on the strategy forum but im too lazy to go find it right now

I finally played Bul-Gin a single time, and the bomb glitch doesn't work for him. That means he has to go around spinning into shit manually to get double points like a peasant and it's almost impossible to do at all. That's why his WR is so low. This is a disaster for the world's huge Bul-Gin KGP scoring community. Image

Did we know that KGP is easier than Shippuu? I just played KGP in English and wow, it's way easier on the same dipswitch.

I'm not sure it was known for Kingdom Grand Prix, but I'm not surprised either since Sorcer Striker's known to be considerably easier than Mahou Daisakusen. It's probably worth splitting the two if it's possible with the existing scores.

I'm not particularly surprised to hear that, but unfortunately, very few of the past scores specified a region. One potential option would be to do something like what Despatche did with Dimahoo when something similar was discovered: put any ambiguous/unknown version's scores into the easier version's table, and make the region required for all submissions going forward.

I'll go back through the last thread to double-check each score submission no matter what we ultimately do, though.

I mean probably no one but me is going to be playing this game anytime soon so I wouldn't worry about those. Image but in the future people should know about the region.

By the way, it seems the difference is that on normal dips for both versions, NA KGP version is roughly one difficulty setting lower.

Any feeling on whether NA/Europe/etc are all the same as one another?

Eh, probably the same. The only roms I have are kingdmgp and shippumd, and they are different. Not sure about any other differences.

Vludi - 708,185 - 1-All - Miyamoto - MAME (Japan version)

Fun game, i like the fast pace and the branching paths, quite forgiving too if you ignore racing. Guess i will try to get into the second loop now.

For now, I've gone back through all of the previous score submissions and added in the region where it was possible to determine it.

There are also a lot of region settings for the World PCB...Europe, USA, Southeast Asia, China, Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan.

Wow someone actually this. Good job m8.

And as for all those regions, I feel they may all have the same difficulty depending on the main rom they use.

That's what I'll assume until someone can show otherwise. I'm just paranoid because Garegga (according to the ST anyway) has different rank properties for every region :P

Ah shit I forgot about that. The rank in this game isn't complicated enough for something like that I don't think... but maybe.

Bashinet finally did the hand glitch on me at the end of a run. I have no idea if those guys from GMC knew about this glitch, but either way I think I'm done.

It's kind of shitty honestly. It's just not the same as the achievement of those guys who got over 2 million with each ship over a period of years and I have no idea if they knew about the glitch as well. But I'm going to be working a lot more soon so this is a good point to end it.

I have no actual facts to back this up, obviously, but I wouldn't be that surprised if some other WRs (especially for smaller/less played games) were about as anticlimactic to the person who achieved it as you feel yours is. Someone employs a trick that few other people know about, or enough pieces line up in one run despite numerous mistakes, etc. I bet the triumphant "yes, my life's work is complete, I am truly the best there ever was" moment that everyone likes to envision when someone gets a WR is actually somewhat rare, especially for highly-perfectionist players who are rarely satisfied with their own performance.

In any case, good work.

What kind of glitch is it, though? Is it possible to let the game run forever and counterstop if the glitch doesn't end prematurely? Does the rest of the game matter at all if it activates?
