no miss no bomb second loop, damn. I'm guessing you lost some lives at Hibachi though right?

Do you have any tips for his final pattern? Do you know of any way to force getting the "slow version" on the final attack or any other tips? It seems like there can be a big difference between the speed of that pattern and I can't quite figure out why, maybe it's just the number of objects on screen but it doesn't seem consistent.

you pretty much have to no miss no bomb to get anywhere close to 550m because just the max bonus from 2-6 is worth around 60m
died on 2-6 boss, then lost 4 more lives to 2-7 because of a bad hibachi fight (though I had a 1 miss of hibachi and 2 miss of the whole game a few days ago, but I died on 2-5 which cost me around 90m)

no real tips for hibachi, the final is actually a fixed pattern though, the opening is always the same (but the random movement makes it impossible to memorize exactly)
just bomb a lot and dodge like hell and bring a lot of lives with you, everyone dies there a lot
another good thing to do is to make hibachi switch to phase 2 when there isn't a lot on the screen, then you can take off maybe 25% of his life for free

I'll just have to start grinding out runs at this point and find my problem areas so I get there with enough lives. Thanks for the info!

Has anyone actually used the term "western world record"? lol.

Even a native english speaker who i won't name used the term, really embarrassing how so many people don't even understand the language despite speaking it. There is only one actual western world record i know of and that's homura from the German player as it's an actual wr situated in the west as if it needs clarifying further than simply WR which it is.

well done bananamatic.. do you think changing from c-s to c-l would help a scrub like me to improve a bit or is the difference only big at higher level? I'll try a couple credits anyways i guess :)

I am certainly the wrong person to educate you on the English language, but I hope you are aware of the ambiguity of the phrase "western world record"? Perhaps you understand it as "(western) (world record)", which indeed makes no sense whatsoever. However, if you read it semantically as "(western world) (record)", it does make sense, as in "the record score of the western world" (ignoring the question what "western world" is supposed to mean). I am not saying here that this phrase shouldn't be discarded as quickly as possible and I am all for finally dropping any distinction between "western" and "eastern" (=Japanese?) scores in its entirety. Nevertheless, the term isn't semantically wrong - even from a native speaker's standpoint of view. But since I am not a native spaker, I cannot educate you on this.

What I can teach you, however, is highscore history. One of my main topics:

You got it wrong twice.

1) The German player you are referring to is called "abschüssig" and his score got long beaten again by a Japanese player (and more than once). Abschüssig got 2.6 billion, whereas the current world records stands with 2.8 billion, achieved by "YOH".

2) There are a couple of world record scores that still stand and are achieved by people outside of Japan, many of which are members of this very forum:

Cotton Boomerang
33.021.500 - Kino (USA)

Dodonpachi Dai-Ou-Jou Black Label
Type A-E - 3.580.529.280 - WY. (China)
Type B-E - 3.473.015.470 - WY. (China)

Mushihimesama Futari Black Label
Maniac - Reco - 1.505.330.485 - WC. (China)

Shippu Mahou Daisakusen
Miyamoto - 2.265.006 - project_ako (USA)

Sonic Wings 2
F-15/Mao Mao - 3.339.600 - project_ako (USA)

Strikers 1945
Spitfire - 2.326.700 - WC. (China)

Strikers 1945 II
Shinden - 3.338.100 - HD. (China)

Strikers 99
X-36 - 3.572.900 - H.J. (Korea?)

Strikers 1945 Plus
Flying Pancake - 2.829.800 - WC. (China)

Thunderforce AC
2.414.620 - PEG (USA)

Varth
No autofire - 11.495.600 - DGN (Italy)

To make this rather lenghty off-topic post some more on-topic again: Banana, you are the greatest human being on Earth. I am congratulating you with all parts of my body.

depends on how you're playing
if you don't have a route, just stick to c-s
if you have one and aren't planning to die in the 1st loop, use c-l

i can get to the second loop sometimes but not without dying.my route is far to full of adlibs still after all these years
i imagine with c-l my chaining would get worse but i would deal with bosses and bigger enemies better with c-l hmmmm

if you can't get to the second loop consistently, your chaining is probably already crap
also if you die, you lose all shot power with C-L (only in the 1st loop though) and 0 power shot with C is pretty useless
just stick with C-S

That's right you can't, it didn't stop your annoying typically arrogant self trying though did it? What might be semantically possibly has no bearing on established terminology unless specifically stated ie the term "western world record" is therefore an extension of the established "world record" adding a sub specifying factor, unless of course demonstrated otherwise through grammar, punctuation or context and quite frankly "western world" is a term you'd only expect to hear within the realms of a political or historical context..naturally then it will be regarded as an error otherwise at it should be (western record is a far more concise succinct term anyway that offers no ambiguity like the retardation you are arguing for).

woooow blackisto man!! and Jaimers! oh i got some DDP to watch :D

the western record terminology was used in a time where very few people from asia/east were posting on english forums

edit: wow bananamatic I saw about your run yesterday, didn't see it coming, that's huge, you got a proper record of it great, gotta watch it soon, that's awesome. Ofc for me in DDP, there is meaning in score competition with different ships, it's pretty obvious to me and also I would say that's what the game gives as a rule for competition since you know it WILL just list scores of all ships together on one score screen. And so, you have beat my score -_-;; congratulations. But I gotta watch your replay. You say you only played 50runs for this with 14 no miss no bomb of 2nd loop?? if true that's super solid cause I just never got a single no miss no bomb of 2nd loop, and I know how hard it is and how many serious obstacles there is to that. I can believe that A-L is not the easiest ship to play I could always see that, its main disadvantage is well no wide range ofc and then its powerful speed is also a difficulty in accuracy in dodging (pretty much inevitably you lose accuracy with more speed). But I love it regardless ;) C-L I knew was not a bad ship at all, but I always thought C-S was the easier ship to play the game with "unoptimaly" you know? But C-L is super classy. It would have been my second pick I guess^^ for its style. I imagine that with C-S, you can potentially get a higher maximum optimal score too in the sense that it is the ship that has most potential to gain more hits against bosses. anyway I'll watch ur run soon

and blackisto I saw most of your run, it's very good. Really solid stuff I'm quite impressed hope to see you play irl sometimes maybe ^_^ you've gotten a lot better haven't you :O

I did a mistake there and it remained in the quote, meant 14 runs that reached 2nd loop with no miss no bomb and that was the first one that got to the 2-6 boss with no miss no bomb

Damn that score, holy nuts. Are you really playing shmupmame 2.2 or is that suppose to be 4.2? I'm just curious if there is a reason to use the older version since I'm playing DDP as well.
