Ok, I think I've moved everything over from the previous thread, let me know if I've missed anyone's score

Well thanks for taking this one over Big CHI.

As for Manpuku Arcade 1.0, I'll put up a score (just to keep you quiet).
What's the Arcade 1.0 Manpuku World Record by the way...?

^I've no idea, maybe NTSC-J could answer that question...
But you know this mode has your name all over-it... Seriously

^On Arcade 1.0 I'm only interested in Harahara Mode. Its handicapped like everything else on 1.0, but its a nice aggressive score challenge.
Manpuku is nice for a 2-ALL on ver1.01.

I have no idea what the record for Manpuku is. That mode is even more unpopular than Harahara.

Regarding the 173m Japanese Harahara record, I'm not even sure where it's from. I suppose Plasmo can answer this, since I saw it in his original score thread, but it's missing from that comprehensive Japanese site that lists all the Arcadia and Gamest records.

So.....there's absolutely no Harahara WR on their lists?
(It would be nice to confirm that my 186mil is the actual WR  )

I can see why its unpopular. Its just not fun being ripped-off by it.

It very well could have been published in Arcadia (again, might be a good idea to ask Plasmo to see where he found the score), but it just isn't listed at the site with all the scores which is a little weird. Your 186m might indeed be the highest score posted or published anywhere, but we have to consider the skills of the WR MMP players with 300m+ 1.0 scores and there's little doubt in my mind that at least a couple of these guys have done throwaway credits in Harahara just for fun and scored 200m+. That 245m score I posted in the other thread I think is really very impressive, 5m extends or not. I've played with those settings (on that same cab) expecting to blow my original score out of the water and it didn't make as big a difference as I thought it would. I'm not sure why a talented player like that would waste his time on those settings.

In short, I think you could go for a Manpuku WR, but I've never considered my 76m to be it (even if it somehow technically is) because it's really more of a default score. Not real fulfilling, but that's my view. I think 230m and 200m 1.0 scores in Harahara and Manpuku, respectively, would be around WR territory and very impressive efforts, even if no one else was playing.

Harahara 1.0 - My best would be 191mil top end with Rafute. I wouldn't even bother to play it with Ikuo (which does have potential IF you can survive to the ALL) and Momo is so handicapped on 1.0 that its a complete non-starter. I'll stick with my 186mil.

Manpuku 1.0 - 200mil would require knocking into the 1 life clear 2nd loop which isn't happening at all ever for anyone. I think 170mil would be top-end, knowing how limited it is with 1.0's rapidly depleting and slow building lard.
I'll be happy with 130mil. The Japanese 1CC Manpuku 1.0 replay on Youtube is only 106mil.

Maybe someone can ask Gemant about the known Harahara 1.0 and Manpuku 1.0 WRs...?

I think it's probably better we continue the Momo 308m 2-ALL discussion here, rather than plug up the records thread.

Lots of room for improvement on the 2nd loop for sure, a 48mil difference between his Harahara loop and mine. However, it has to be said that it must be really difficult to complete the Arcade 1.0 Harahara loop on just 5 or 6 lives, not to mention the poor scoring potential from the lack of lives.

Yeah, I don't think it's real fair to compare the two scores. It's just an entirely different game when you don't have a steady flow of extra lives coming in. It's striking that the 1-ALL scores are so close to the 2-ALL scores (and in Ikuo's case, the 1-ALL record is higher!).

I noticed in the Momo run how little he uses the bomb chip spam technique, opting instead to wait until his bomb meter fills and he gets a new bomb. It's a nice way to do it if you can, but the lack of PCB slowdown in the 360 port makes areas like the section following the second mid-boss in 2-4 much more difficult.

Momo seems to have a lot more control over things too.

Rafute's bouncing or splash on the shot can easily get you killed. Same for Ikuo's homing and slow movement in general. Is the Ikuo score even an All?

Rafute is definitely the easiest to loop with, but Momo looks like she may be the best for actually playing the loop. I've definitely prefered Rafute's speed, but Momo looks like the one i should be learning. It's not like I've been playing STGs in general, so it's definitely not a bad time to switch.

Learning how to get into the loop with Rafute does not much good if you can't get far into it cause her shot easily triggers all sorts of suicide bullets if you're not careful. Momo's always been a disaster when I've tried her and Ikuo even more so, but the control over the shot may be very important in the loop or Harahara mode.

I'd still like to at least get into the loop sometime, 2-All is pretty much out of the question though. My best when I was playing was to no miss up to Stage 4 boss with Rafute, but it's so easy to make mistakes, and my route was definitely not perfect. It should be possible to consistently loop if you were good enough.

Yeah, I hate to admit it, but Momo is the best ship in the game. Her lard attack is stronger than Ikuo's and more precise than Rafute's and her bomb has the long duration of Rafute's with the control of Ikuo's. I still can't use her, though.

Quote:

Nope. She's the worst ship for survival and that's what it comes down to with 1.0 2-ALL.

There really aren't many suicide bullets, though. Just the water towers in stages 2 and 3, the yellow capsules in stage 4, and the gun turrets in stage 5. Rafute is definitely the best choice for clearing both loops, but you still have to play it safe and plan where you use your bombs. ISO's Rafute video is a good showcase for a scrubby 2-ALL.

I'd prefer to spam-up the Pork Strategy thread will the discussion: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=33624
(The X360 lack of slowdown is a problem for Arcade 1.0 Manpuku Mode also.)

Harahara Arcade 1.0

NTSC-J - 188,032,060 - All - Ikuo

I'm glad to get a new high score, but this was an ugly run. All stages except for the first and last were sloppy. Dropped the chain during a lucrative section in stage 4 and went into stage 5 about 10 million behind schedule, but I didn't make any major mistakes after that except for one botched phase on the final boss. A perfect run would get me close to 200m, but I'm kind of sick of this mode and don't have the consistency or skill to go much further. I really had to work for this one, DEL!

Awesome!
I knew you'd have to work hard to snag that one. I even made a vid to that effect a couple of weeks ago :D

Big Congrats :!:

Yeah, I had to make hundreds of attempts on this one too. A couple of weeks, but hundreds of failures before it came through.

Thanks, DEL.

In that video it looks like you're playing 1.01 Harahara with Momo. Is that your current goal?

Once I get back from vacation later next month I was thinking of going back to 1.01.

That vid footage is the Arcade 1.0 WR by Imasara (or whatever his name is). Just a bit of his 2nd loop. I wanted to show Momo on a Harahara loop, so that people could see how little lard he gats and how rapidly it disappears on 1.0.

Once again - Congrats on a very hard Harahara 1.0 Ikuo unofficial World Record :!:

I decided to start recording notable runs that happen in the HEY livestream. First are two MMP runs that might interest some people here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... JX964sBRpu 218M 1-loop with Ikuo and a Manpuku clear, thought those would be kinda neat since both are better than anything in this board.

Thanks, Erppo.

I wish I had known they were doing MMP, but I stopped watching that stream when it was all crusty old Taito games. Please keep recording and posting. It's nice to have a new Manpuku "world record" with video.

Also good to see HEY finally removed that stupid 5m extend setting. I hope that wasn't just for the stream.
