There's a thread here for the PS1 game, which is for all intents and purposes identical with the arcade one:

PS1 port is slightly easier and lacks the second loop. Scores submitted for that version are not eligible for the western record.

i think it'd be better to have all of this in one thread. not sure why the first thread isn't for the arcade version to begin with

Generally I only make threads for games that I've got and can play, Cotton 100% and Arrow Flash being the two exceptions. Since I don't have the PCB and can't emulate due to not having a computer at home I didn't make a table for the arcade version.

If someone had posted a score for the arcade version I would have opened a table for it but it's all taken care of now.

Scores from Mero's thread have been transplanted. This is now officially the thread for all versions of the first Cotton game. His will remain a dedicated thread for Cotton 100%.

I'll have to settle for this for the time being, as I'm not having much luck with the hard 1cc. The way I play hard mode, my success in the latter stages is dependent on getting the right crystal colors, and a decent amount of memo for stage 6. There's also a rank system that comes into play if you manage to not die, which is slightly noticeable when you get to stage 3, and extremely noticeable when you get to stage 4. The clear is certainly doable, and hardest mode isn't out of the question either (if you point blank the enemies, they won't release suicide bullets. A combination of that and ignoring other formations might be key).

I'm convinced that "You Do!" is a joke difficulty, a la mania in FZ Kotsujin. Not even gonna attempt that one.

Perikles - 431,690 - 11/2-5

(Ignore the stage number in the picture, it will always display "7" if you manage to beat the first loop; I personally think that this is actually stage 12 since the final boss should count as a separate stage, but this is how the game counts I suppose)

Pretty happy with this, I was finally able to get a few secret bonuses, and that horrible dragon in stage 6 only killed me twice instead of the half dozen lives he usually demands. Great port!

Edit: Looks like the other host I used is out of business, added a working picture.

There's a safespot right above his head. Comes in real handy. 8)

And yeah, it is a pretty awesome port (that arranged soundtrack is top 5 on the PCECD, easily) . Used to be my preferred way to play, till I discovered the X68K version.

Get directly above his head whenever he appears. There's also a safespot for the stage 5 boss, just in case you needed it. Position your fairy(s) in front of his mouth, and park yourself right where his nose is.

Note that both of these only work in the PCE/TG-16 port.

Oh great.

UGO - 229,680 - Stage 10 (2-4)

Weak score.

Lots of lives for the second loop but surprised by stronger bosses and midbosses.

You are trying to dodge the teacups at the end of every level for the secret bonus, right?

Yes I generally got around 30 on the table at end of stage.
But I think I don't kill enough ennemies during the game. Also I miss lots of diamonds.

Yeah, you're supposed to avoid all the cups to get a 20K+ bonus. Example.

It's essential to pull it off at least a few times to get a good score. Too bad it's probably the toughest Cotton game to get the secret bonus in (other than Panorama, of course)

As far as the crystals go, I remember them being important to scoring in the arcade version, but not so much in the PCE. I'll have to double check.

Nice clear!

All this activity is making me want to get back into this game. Maybe I'll post a score for the NGPC version or something.

I miss lots of points but I'm happy for the Clear.

One day I would like to play this on a real NGPC, it must be cool.

Ugh, nevermind. I forgot how horrid the NGPC port was. Have a PCE clear instead.

Kino - 446,680 - 2-ALL

Got a bit scary near the end, getting knocked all the way back down to base power twice, but I still squeaked it out.

Nice score Kino.

The NGPC version is not fun ? I have to try it again.

Thanks, man!

Yeah, the cut content and downgraded graphics of the NGPC I can handle.... but the inability to use Barrier or Firefly is a dealbreaker for me. Not to mention the stage 6 boss seems impossible to get past without using a half dozen continues.

Cotton Original

Kino - 749,990 - Stage 6 - Hard
Part 1 Part 2

Pretty decent run score-wise, due to not missing a single Secret Bonus. Couldn't squeak out the clear due to losing too many lives early on, though. Shouldn't be too much trouble, now that I've figured out how Barrier functions in this game (looks to be entirely time-dependent, doesn't matter how many bullets hit you for the duration). I can really appreciate them changing the properties of Option Magic in each version. Makes every port a slightly different experience.

Not quite as lucky with the Secret Bonuses this time around, but oh well. I doubt I'll be returning to this port anytime soon.
