Nice! I'm not sure my current gameplay plan would beat that score even if I managed to execute it perfectly. I think mine would be closer to 40,000,000.

There seems to be some mysteries to the scoring system in this game I don't understand yet. It's obvious in stage one since I always follow the exact same path that ends me with a multiplier between 4.5 and 4.7. Sometimes Ill get a 4.5 multiplier, and end up with 4 upgrade gems and a score of 4,000,000. Sometimes I will get a 4.6 multiplier and end up with only 3 gems, but a score of 4,200,000. And I have also had as low as a 4.2 multiplier and ended up with the same result, 3 gems and 4,200,000 points. So does anyone know what the hell is going on? I don't think it has to do with missing kills because my rate is always around 99%.

Well I think that the Kei E3 shot doesn't fill the ehter chip meter as much as Maria's E1. Now that I'm playing with custom element shots I'm getting less ether chips than when I was playing with default Maria, regardless of how high the multiplier is.
Thanks for the vid, I'll check it out a bit later :) .

I think I might end up leaving this one for a while. I'm just not consistent enough to improve upon my score. The plan is there but I always make some kind of retarded mistake and ruin it. :( I can 1cc pretty consistently but I always ruin the score along the way. I'm getting frustrated with it, so it might be time to move on for a while and come back when I have more shmup experience...

Caladrius is no freebie 1CC though, so take a bit of pride in what you've accomplished as is. :)

I appreciate the motivating words. In the end leaving the game without executing my plan properly didn't sit well with me. Seemed like a scrub thing to do and felt like my work was pointless if I didn't see it through to the end. I spent all last night trying to seriously learn Lilith. It's extremely, almost crazily difficult compared to playing with Caladrius for sure, but I think it taught me some new things about the game. My score with her is still bad enough I'm not willing to post it here yet though.

Tonight I went back to custom Caladrius and finally broke my plateau. This was a pretty good run, but I still feel like I can push it farther. I missed the sol tower in stage 3, got clipped right at the start of stage 5 by something stupid which ruined what would have otherwise been a no-miss through stage 5, and got whacked twice by those stupid f***ing random snipers in Stage 6, despite no-missing the actual boss. I swear that there is a small amount of luck involved in that stage. From here on I'm gonna keep aiming for a fully no-miss run, because I really believe I can do it. Anyhow here's my new score, back in the Caladrius top ten club with Yumi! :D

Also damn Mero, your score is going to be incredible when you learn the endgame. As far as clearing boss 5 is concerned I can tell you exactly how to do it, as long as you are willing to spend 4 bombs. It's possible to do it with 2 bombs, which is how I did it in boss rush, but it requires you to be able to dodge the first two patterns which is really really hard. My usual strategy with Caladrius - Maria1/Caladrius2/Kei3 is as follows:

Phase1
Get right in his face and start holding Kei3 moving back with the black orbs and ultimately into the corner until you have no choice but to bomb. Bomb and use Maria1 until he goes to the next attack. For the next one get under the boss on the right side and start holding down Caladrius2. As you hold it move down to avoid the big shield thing and then towards the middle. One you run out of Caladrius2 switch to Kei3 and get in his face without moving too much. He should die before the green things become a serious threat.

Phase2
Stay near the bottom of the screen using normal shot. As the red bullets come use Kei3 just enough to make holes and survive. Kei3 will inevitably run out, when this happens switch to Caladrius2. This will run out quickly because you used it up in phase1. When that's gone switch to Maria1 and dodge until you get overwhelmed and have no choice but to bomb (trust me you will). by the time your bomb finishes he will move to his fire pillar attack, but Maria1 should kill him before he gets very far with it.

Phase3
Use Maria1 until it runs out then your main shot. get in the center of the screen in between the lines of the grid and stay still until right before the blue swirly bullets will hit you and bomb. Move right and move with the swirling bullet formation in a clockwise motion until you have to bomb again (roughly a half circle of movement). Finally use Caladrius2 to break a hole in the swirling formation as you move to the bottom of the screen. Keep holding onto Caladrius2 as the next attack comes and repeatedly tap dodge right. He should die so fast you don't even really need to tap dodge, but do it anyhow to be safe.

Profit.

Also don't worry about using 4 bombs, because Beelzebub can be easily defeated with 4, and reasonably defeated with 3. You should have 9 by the time you get to Graham anyhow. Hope that helps you take him out. For me with this method I pretty much never die against him.

I could go a bit higher but I might give this game a rest for a while soon, will probably pick up SDOJ and XII Stag/G-Stream in the near future.

Trying to increase my score more than it already is can be pretty annoying, one mistake and I've fucked it.

Totally understand, I've also taken a bit of a break since SDOJ came. Nice on killing off the stage 5 boss finally though and very good score, especially considering you didn't even all so it was potentially even higher.

Back from Gamescom, and after an initial dip, I finally made stage 6 on a single credit, and also tried some boss rush.

My Story Mode score was from a good run by my standards, but an accidental 'multi-button' Burst activation ruined my multiplier on stage three, which was gutting. Grrr

Here's the scores and pictures:

When I was playing this I always used to activate the burst via the E-shot buttons instead of the dedicated button, it takes a while to train yourself but after a while I virtually never used to accidently activate the burst, which like you you say can mess up a good run.

Stage 3 is probably the highest scoring stage in the game, I think I used to be able to get my multiplier up to about x12 on a good run. 5 is high scoring too, but I never managed to kill the final phase of the boss with my multplier intact.

Well, through a busy patch at work I'd not played at all. Just had a break and tried a credit, and a new high-score.

Two (two!) accidental Bursts screwed my stage two score. Not that it's a hugely high scoring phase.

More painfully, I lost a life diving carelessly through a cloud of bullets... just to try and pick up a life. That was truly frustrating!

Where I really suffered though was on over bombing. Stage 5 I found myself with no special shots when I needed them, and (a great mechanic of the game) not having them when you need them is a constraining loop to get trapped in; because you need to use them to clear away enough enemies to earn them. Put more succinctly, being on the back foot makes it harder to fight back! And so, I wasted tonnes of bombs.

Still, I managed this, and have clawed myself off the bottom of this board's table:

Very cool, this board's table is hardcore, and this game doesn't take any shit so its something to be proud of.

I've taken an extended vacation from this game but I'm thinking about getting back into it. I'd really like to learn default Lilith, and I want to prepare myself for the coming arcade release.

Also there are a ton of points in my custom Caladrius run that could use some tuning as I've never actually been able to perfectly execute my plan.

I'd love to play this on a cab in an arcade! And thanks for the encouraging words!

I really need to devise a plan for stages beyond level four. Up until that point I have a strict routine. Then... well, I have a route, but I need it to be a lot more precise and tuned in.

And I need to stop bombing when in stage 4 those indestructible spinning squares pour down the screen. If I take the right-hand route, I can do just that. Left hand route gets me the vital pink 'life chip', but I waste too many bombs that way through.

Haha I know exactly where you are talking about

I have never figured out a safe way to get that chip, and its not really worth the risk so I always take the right path. Even then I get killed a lot in that segment, it's the second hardest stage segment in the game imo, outshined only by ALL of stage 6 due to those hellish snipers. Actually aside from the very start, stage 5 isn't really all that hard and doesn't require a strict plan. Stage 6 is about tap dodging your way through the entire stage, which is easier said than done. I'll give you an important tip there, in stage 6 practice mode, if you restart the snipers will always have the same placement, so the stage appears manic. BUT in actuality it is random, so don't try to learn some very specific path and expect it to work when you hit arcade mode; it's different every time. That's actually why I hate stage 6 so much, sometimes you just get utterly screwed by the hand you are dealt.

Right on your heels ACS! I'm one place behind you on the overall Xbox Live leaderboards!

So, I'd been getting incremental score increases for a while, but felt it a waste of Mero's time to post every one, but as I just cleared 40 million, I thought it was time!
