Tempest and Tempest Tubes

Post by Despatche »

__________
Normal: 3 lives, Medium1 difficulty, extend at 20000. Start from level 1!
"Extreme": 5 lives, Hard difficulty, no extends. You can start anywhere from 1 to 9, but you might as well pick 9.

Use Rev 3! Revised hardware???

Currently banning things like SNES AGH Atari 1 and AA Advance, because they're dumb. The 360 and Chrome (lol) versions should be fine; not sure about Arashi. No idea about other ports. Above all, the big question is "what does having a Medium1 and Medium2 mean"?

Anyway, please mention what port you used, if any. The ZX and CPC conversion, the Atari ST conversion, and things like the 2600 conversion are getting their own boards.

Re: Tempest/Tempest Tubes [Arcade]

Some truly awful runs to start:

Tempest
Despatche - 44,532 - 11 - ShmupMAME v3.0b

Tempest Tubes
Despatche - 36,332 - 10 - ShmupMAME v3.0b

This game is... kinda hard! I think I used to get to the second spectrum (!) regularly... I can't imagine how.

I have no idea what "revised hardware" means. Use it I guess?

Added skeletons for the "extreme" settings that TG etc use. All the other categories are jank, so let's just ignore them for now. Tempest is still a plenty hard game, though...

edit:
Tempest - Normal settings
Despatche - 49,344 - 13 - MAME v0.200

I'm pretty sure this game is unplayable without a dial.
