Apart from finally nailing the final boss technique this definitely wasn't my best run. After this I did a run that would have got me about 30k higher but made a mess of it at the end. I forgot to blow the nosecone off before it self destructs and didn't get the 100k for it :( .

I think if I pulled of absolute perfection I could get close to 1.5 million but I'll settle for this for now, I've really been hammering this game recently.

Good job :) I did a lot of milking on my run to make sure no one beats my score, but you got a lot more points than me.

I still have no idea how the WR is 2,3 millions though.

Thanks :) . And yeah, I don't know where the record holder is getting an extra 800k from.

Doesn't the PS1 version lack the rocks in the volcanic tunnel?

They're present and correct in arcade mode.

I never read any piece of information about this anywhere, but about what I saw there's nothing but a HUGE difference between the Jap and international versions, as the stages simply don't come in the same row. This can be observed on pcb as well as on the PSX port.

International row (mostly as people know this game) :
- The south pole
- Sunken town
- The channel
- Deep dark sea
- Seabed ruins
- The enemy base

Japanese row (scarcely known):
- The south pole
- The channel
- Seabed ruins
- Sunken town
- Deep dark sea
- The enemy base

IMHO, the Jap version is more balanced since the difficulty appears progressive as it should be expected. This feeling is obvious to me during fight again the bosses. For example, the rock colossus, as badass as he can look like, seems weaker than the twin submarines throwing tornadoes, even if they look more casual.
Any opinion ?

This is the order on the Japanese Playstation version which I played. I always thought that order was wrong but you're saying the original Japanese PCB is like this?

EXACTLY !!!
And I just CANNOT understand the reason no one ever talked about this difference (I cannot find any information about) since it is so obvious and may affect gameplay so much.
You know, on other games - not to say Cave for which people are willing to spend more cash on jap - people are bitching about screen title, voices or name of protagonist being different. In this case, come on, this is just the whole level design of the game which is different
For me this is the most insane crazy shit  , the biggest difference that one could ever see between two versions of a game :!:

First time I played this game was also the japanese Playstation version. I noticed the stage order difference between versions but always assumed the international version had the correct order.

The japanese stage order doesn't make much sense to me. Going from the channel level to suddenly find yourself deep underwater with the rock colossus? Even when I played it back in the day I thought that came completely out of nowhere. Then suddenly you're back to the surface again.

The international stage order makes for a nice and logical progression of going Deep Dark Sea -> Seabed Ruins -> Enemy Base. If they bothered to change it for the international release, then I assume the devs also thought this new order was better.

Another thing worth mentioning is the "boss stamps" you get when you complete a stage. On the int. version, they are ordered 1/2/3/4/5 on the sub's hull. On the jap. version, the order is 1/4/2/5/3. At least in my eyes that's another indication of what's the correct stage order should be.

which, by the way, means the obvious

They are other differences in the gameplay. Some enemies patterns are not the same.

Since this got a recent console release we should get some scores rolling again.

I'm playing PS4, hi-score mode. This uses the Japan stage order, locks default options, and disables pausing (it restarts the game).

Image
Kaitei Daisensou
Jeneki - 1,207,500 - ALL - 235 - Yes - PS4 (Arcade Archives)

Score can be found on the hi-score mode leaderboard. This wasn't good enough for top-10, I guess I need to farm more.
