I also had the same impression about the multiplier issue, thanks for the verification.
Especially watch out at the part before the final boss of stage 4 with all those tiny shooting bits. They are worth immense points and can be fucked up easily. Watch my replay for reference, I think I made close to no mistakes there.

It's probably the most important scoring spot in Death mode. I've scored 400k there (one third of my score!).

Set 1 - Death - Expert
Plasmo - 400,565,989 - Stage 4 - Replay

400mill and stage 4 at last. Made some horrible mistakes. My strategies still need a lot of refining. I'm nevertheless going to release the replay, because it shows some of the harder bits of stage 2 with no miss/no bomb (i.e. the midboss and the chasing scene).

No miss 1 bomb, but not quite there yet. Still happy about the pretty good run and about breaking the one billion mark. I think the bomb in stage 2 could have been avoided rather easily. Probably need to no miss no bomb the game and pay more attention on killing all implodable enemies the correct way. But at first I'll finally have a look at your replays. :)

Set 1 - Death - Medium
Plasmo - 1,264,410,588 - ALL (TLB) - Replay

No miss/no bomb.

Only made some minor mistakes. 1,3bill might be possible, but just barely. I won't try this mode again unless someone beats me and this hopefully won't happen, because improving this score would be quite a pain actually.

Almost beat your Medium difficulty scores in Death and Original mode (just played one credit in Original). I continue trying to get Death mode done, but suddenly the game keeps raping me on the most retarded ways ever. :/
I'll have a few more credits today and tomorrow and if it still fails to work out, a small break should help I guess.

Well at least a fast and sloppy 1st place in Original...

Set 1 - Original - Medium
Battletoad - 75,565,796 - ALL (TLB) - Replay

Don't expect too much of the replay, horrible bullet scratching, lots of missed enemies and a death that was hilarious as ever. Somehow my keyboard didn't notice I was pressing right (together with up) to go around the last bullet onscreen. Yet the point-blanking was decent I think.

Congrats!

Strange that you indeed got to the secret stage. Maybe Udderdude can shed some light on this?

EDIT:

Udderdude is the man:
If your total combined deaths and bombs used adds up to 2 or more, you don't get the secret stage. Bombs used doesn't get counted in Absorb/Chain mode.

Plasmo - 83,170,265 - ALL - Missiles/Implosion

Died twice and thus didn't reach the secret stage.

Set 1 - Massacre - Medium
Plasmo - 74,856,269 - ALL - Missiles/Implosion

Massacre is one hell of a mode, probably my favourite yet. Died twice in a crucial scoring spot during this run, so I call it a preliminary score just to get the ball rolling.

Plasmo - 79,952,246 - ALL (TLB) - Missiles/Implosion - Replay

Died once again at the most important spot for scoring. At least I've reached secret sky.

Aiming for 85mill.

Nice job, although on stage 1 you could prob get more points if you went Laser/Missiles and switched to Laser to get those popcorns you let fly away.

Also, if you let the stage 1 boss cycle to it's next attack before you blow it up, you can get a lot more coins when it dies. Same goes for stage 4 midboss 2.

Considering how awful the original 2002 release of XOP was to play for score, it's a freakin miracle >_>

Lol there is no proximity bonus in massacre? Why do I keep messing up the game's system?!

There is a proximity bonus, it's just half as much points as you'd get in Original.

I wanted the chain bonus to be a much bigger score factor in Massacre (You get +40 instead of +20 for every kill)

Made a couple of mistakes including the dumbest death ever. 100mill might just barely be possible. If someone is up for a duel, I'm going to shoot for it, otherwise I'll probably leave it as it is.

I'll join in. Got this before reading all these last posts. It's a start:

Set 1 - Massacre - Medium
Battletoad - 79,439,715 - ALL - Spread Laser/Missiles

Massacre is totally awesome indeed, just like in XOP Black Ultra. So prepare yourself for much more serious competition than this score, Plasmo. ;)
Am I right in assuming that waiting for a while and then shoot as many enemies as possible in short bursts (if they're not all over you anyway like in stage 1 and 2) gives your chain a better boost? Have to watch your replays, too.

Awesome that you're joining the massacre fun aswell! :D

Shooting in small bursts doesn't increase your score since you want to hold your chain as high as possible and therefore ideally never stop destroying enemies. However, if your chain is 0 (for example at the beginning of a stage) it should give your score a little boost if you hoard all enemies on the screen before you wipe them all out asap.

Set 1 - Massacre - Medium
Plasmo - 96,721,581 - ALL (TLB) - Spread Laser/Missiles - Replay

No miss/no bomb and it didn't help my score too much. Scoring was near maximum throughout all the stages. Lost 1mill on stage 1, other than that I can't think of anything else.

What I don't like about XOP Ultra is, that most of the modes are maxed out too easy. There's not real room for improvement in Massacre and Doom for me now. The only mode which is really well balanced in this regard is Original.

I agree Massacre and Death (I assume this is what you meant) are easily maxed out on the easier skills. Replicating those feats on Expert or Master is quite a bit trickier.

And there's Cancel and Chain modes to play around with .. unless you already tried them and decided they weren't your thing.

I won't be able to watch your replay(s) until Sunday evening at least, but do you hoard enemies at the beginning of stage 3? The popcorn seems to follow you for quite a while (or forever maybe? I need to try it out), so you can boost your chain quite a bit.

Set 1 - Death - Expert
Plasmo - 515,897,991 - Stage 4 - Replay

What a run! There are some really good places with beautiful dodges but then I die like twice stupidly. You wouldn't believe that it's the same player throughout the whole credit. :D
Lost plenty of lives/bombs due to nervousness and not being concentrated at all, a clear isn't actually that far away.

Set 1 - Death - Master
Plasmo - 289,737,095 - Stage 3

Not too diifcult.

Set 1 - Massacre - Medium
Battletoad - 93,994,656 - ALL (TLB) - Spread Laser/Missiles

Yeah, not bad... I'm quite certain I can beat your score. 100 mill on the other hand...

Set 1 - Massacre - Advanced
Battletoad - 105,593,703 - ALL - Spread Laser/Plasma

Lost one life too much for the special stage if I remember correctly.

Set 1 - Massacre - Expert
Battletoad - 121,509,703 - Stage 4 - Spread Laser/Plasma

Set 2 - Massacre - Medium
Battletoad - 71,424,923 - ALL - Spread Laser/Plasma

Died in the most crucial scot for scoring (stage 3).

Will release replays after some more practice and better scores.

So pissed right now. Played Set 1 Massacre Medium, got a new personal best in stage 1 with over 36 million and then died by crashing into a wall in stage 2. I didn't even touch it, the collision detection is way off... :(

Replay

I'm not far away though, some risk here and there and I'll beat your score soon.

With a little more objective view on yesterday, I think it's just that the whole ship is your hitbox against walls and I hadn't thought of that before... Now let's max this shit out, Plasmo! 8)
